Juno? Juno? Has there ever been a more instantly forgettable character. How my fellow Empire readers saw it as logical to rate her (56th) higher than the likes of Joe Pesci's Tommy De Vito I will never know.
Come on Empire readers; grow a set and stop voting for films and characters because they are fresh in the memory otherwise it just becomes a lazy vote.

Don't worry, in a couple of years no-one will remember Juno. That's what happens to lackluster, overrated films.

Ok.. these lists are always made of opinions.. personal and perceived public... So I won't argue about omissions per say (though I will say) or the order.. EXCEPT... much love to Tyler...but Vader should be number on any list!  Most recognizable character ever, period!  Most loved, hated, feared, etc.!  C'mon... ask Tyler who he'd fight, and the name Vader would never escape his lips!

As for me "not saying" on the ommissions... I just find it odd that you can include such hidden gems as Walken in True Romance (and leave out Oldman) and not give a nod to his equally eloquent turn as The Man With the Plan!

Give it a name!

There is my top 3 characters, for my own opinion and personal taste!!

1- Alice Harford (Nicole Kidman in Eyes Wide Shut)
2- Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell in Clockwork Orange)
3- The Bride (Uma Thurman in Kill Bill I)

Randal Graves at 92? Maybe a bit higher, in my opinion, but not as good as Banky Edwards (Chasing Amy) who doesn't appear.

Not much of a showing for the female characters, Holly Golightly? Sugar Kane? Norman Bates mother?

For me though the greatest omission is Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket.

When things like this come out, there will always be some disappointments but usually these so called lists are supposed to be compiled of actors who portrayed their character with extreme excellence and most likely their last great performance. I was nonetheless very disappointed and saddened to not see Brandon Lee on here, portraying Eric Draven in the first and best of The Crow movies. Not only was it Brandon Lee's greatest performance but sadly it was his last performance due to a freak accident ending this actors great potential. Imagine if Brandon Lee had been the one continuing in the rest of The Crow sequels? Just imagine how great this series could have been. Who could forget all the great lines in this movie, my most memorable and influential being "It can't Rain all the time" which is so true in this miserable world we live in. As this list says, 100 Greatest Movie "Characters", and The Crow series did continue on, faring pretty decent even without Brandon Lee but as I said, Imagine, how much better this series would have done and imagine, the star status, Brandon Lee would be at today. Take the time to watch his last interview which is at the end of the movie on the VHS release and him saying, "We never know when we will die", how ironic that he would die during the filming of this great movie, how ironic that he would say this during the movie shoot, how ironic, he would die doing his greatest performance and not even COMPLETELY finishing the movie. Please, redo your list to include the Eric Draven character in the very first The Crow movie. Who can possibly forget the door size, life size posters of Brandon Lee as Eric Draven adorning millions of peoples homes and dorms? Long Live Brandon Lee!

I absolutely love how Tyler Durden was number one!!

But Patrick Bateman should have made it into the top ten at least! He is an awesome character!

It's a great list, all great characters.

Terrible list, but it's not Empire's fault. Jack Sparrow 8th? Han Solo 4th? Since Lawrence Of Arabia isn't even on the list, I find this insulting

Tyler Durden SHOULD have been number 1,  cool hand luke second,  the dude third,  travis bickle fourth and the joker fifth.    i speak the truth.

Oh come on, where was Rorshach!? Or The Comedian? Or Dr Manhatten?

Don't worry, I'm joking of course. Although I do feel slightly disappointed that this list was made before those characters could be recognised (Rorshach could've been quite high - IMO he rivals Ledger's Joker for watchability).

Rubbish argument. If the poll would have been made now, then 5 months later we'd get people saying the same thing again. The results are still shit though...

just found this list online, apparantly a bit late.  i thought willy wonka deserved to be on this list big time.  there's a funny podcast about this list at http://mastersofnone.podbean.com.  their other shows are good for a laugh too, movies, tv and all that.

I don't think I'll make a big deal saying how much more valid my opinion is than all of yours.  However, I will say that Walter took a crowbar, not a bat, to the vette in The Big Lebowski.

Where the hell are Jake Blues and Eddie Valiant?
And I really doubt about Neo as a good character... I think Keanu Reeves makes every character floppy.

Why is Ledger's Joker at no.3 on the list? Yet there's no placing whatsoever for Nicholson's? Or Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman? Criminal!

In what universe are there 69 characters better than Atticus Finch? Ron Burgandy and Napolean Dynamite beat him out...
As someone who has seen a movie made prior to the past 20 years the list stands as an appaling look at the deterieration of our society. And I'm only 19.
The top 20 in this list is nothing but the collection of every boy's favorite action heroes. Where are the characters that shaped cinema? Ever hear of Sam Spade? How about Holly Golightly? Bluto, anyone? And I assume that Margo Channing is also a name that no one out there has heard. I understand this list was voted on by the readers who all have a right to their opinions, but I hope that they are exposed great characters, as this list shows that their exposure has been limited.
Feel free to eviscerate me now.

I don't understand everyone's obsession with Tyler Durden. PEOPLE YOU ARE NOT HARD CORE BECAUSE YOU LIKE THIS "CHARACTER"!!!!!!

Marge Gunderson from Fargo is my number one all the way!

Very Happy to see The Joker and Norman Bates there! Love both.
I personally would have put Christopher Lee as Dracula and Yoda MUCH higher..

I think this is a good list up until the crappy No.1. I think Heath Ledger's Joker was a little too high and why isn't Alec Guinness's Obi-Wan Kenobi not on the list?
