I don't like commas and use too many malapropisms sometimes. I can spell really well but the punctuation thing just is not a strong point.

Commas are your firends. Trust them. It's semicolons you should shun.

As a freelance journalist, I find that sometimes my editor moves around punctuation a bit, which I feel takes away the emphasis from particular sentences.

Semi Colons I use, I'm just never quite sure if I use them right. Different magazines, websites etc. tend to use them in different ways and it is actually - in my opinion - probably the most complicated grammatical aid out there.

It's a tough art knowing exactly where and when to place a semicolon; even then, others can't be trusted to accept it as a correct use thereof.

Ha! Very good. I think the only one of those of which I am guilty is the less/fewer one, and I've basically taken to just saying "fewer" every time someone says "less", whether it was right or not, just for the lulz.

I'm forever having grammar check tell me I'm writing in the passive voice but it's an odd choice here - it's not a mistake, just a matter of preference. And if you're writing formal reports the passive voice tends to work better.

On a similar theme, where does everyone stand on commas before "and"?

I know in some cases it IS correct, but not in Word's eyes.

Word, for one.

Although that's more of a "what".

Shouldn't semi-colons be factoring in there as well?

Doesn't it depend on the subject(s) being talked about?

I was thinking for lists - although your colon would come in there somewhere as well I suppose.
