It's one of those instances where it's best not to second guess on anything.

If we tweaked every film, after the fact, we would never be satisfied with anything on screen.

Let's just agree that there is a reason for it's popularity and longevity?

Can you imagine what ALIEN would have been like if Lucas or Spelberg had got hold of it

This film is a 100% Classic! To think that this beautiful masterpiece is now part of a series that became the crap-fest called ALIEN vs PREDATOR... nah, there is only ALIEN and ALIENS. PREDATOR also rocks of course.

Ooo heaven forbid!
According to Empire:

1941
A.I Artificial Intelligence
Band Of Brothers
Catch Me If You Can
Close Encounters Of The 3rd Kind
Duel
E.T
Jaws
Jurrasic Park
Kingdom Of Crystal Scull
Last Crusade
Lost World Jurassic Park
Saving Private Ryan
Minority Report
Munich
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Schindler's List
Sugarland Express
Temple Of Doom
Terminal
War Of The Worlds

As well Producing films like:
Back To The Future, The Goonies, Suprisia, Men In Black, Poltergiest, Cape Fear, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Transformers,

Now can you name me a director alive or dead with that resume, versatility, enjoyability, technicality, dedication(60+ YO), and consistency?
Just because Lucas and Spielbeg are childhood friends and barely worked together on Indy doesn't make them one person.

Hard to believe but 30 years ago i saw this classic on the big screen for the first time, round about this time of year too.I can still remmber the fear factor, that took the breath away of the cinema goer's of the time.A true classic chiller.

I always liked the fact that we know nothing about the derelict, leaves more to the imagination.

Seeing the Space Jockey with flesh and moving about could look silly. They tried it in the comics and didn't really work.

They don't necessarily have to explain everything.

Scott had planed on doing his own sequel to A L I E N ,with Giger back on board for the art work and Cameron producing plus a new story. It was going to be about finding the Alien planet and filing in the back story of the derelict, and what was the space jockey up too.I believe there is a script, but Scott lost interest after Fox ruined the franchise with poor sequel',he mentions it on the making of DVD disc.

A script wasn't done and I don't think Ridley ever took the idea that seriously. I remember David Giler saying he would like Ridley to make that story but as far as I can tell no script was ever written that tackled that tale.

Where did it state that?

I'm 99.9% sure it wasn't. Heck they even had a Space Jockey skull on one of the Predator ships walls.

When the Predator picked up the distress signal from the ship overidden by Aliens,it was sitting in a chair exactly like the Space Jockeys. The room was very similar to that ship as well.I assumed the makers wanted to imply the Space jockeys technology was the Predators.

I don't think that means the jockey was a predator.

Just means they AVP2 makers weren't creative with the predator background.

Still shocked at how lame AVP2 was, so much potential...

Nah - the directors said that was just done just as a nod to the Space Jockey. I don't hate AvP-R as much as some, but as a huge Alien fanboy I would have been pissed off if they dared tie the Predators into the Alien films in such a manner.

I just don't rate the AvP movie's at all,not impressed one little bet, badly scripted, acted and directed,ok to watch if your bored and there's noting else to watch, the effects are decent though not great.

ALIENS vs PREDATOR was a great idea and a fantastic comic-book series (ONLY the first series in 1990 - the following stories were terrible and cheap) and an even better novel by Stephen & Stephanie Perry... but that's it. I've only seen the first AvP and was disappointed to the point of tears - it was awful and I know better than to watch the second which I have been warned by too many people is even worse than the first!

I've said it before folks - there is only ALIEN, ALIENS and PREDATOR - Ridley, Cameron and McTiernan simply set the bar too high and everything that can be done with these fantastic characters and universes on screen has been done. I may be proven wrong some day but not at the moment. just compare that brilliantly tense sequence in ALIEN when Harry Dean Stanton's 'Brett' is looking for Jonesy with the entire AvP movie - No Contest. by the way evil bill (you couldn't help yerself either could you? LOL), heve you ever seen this...?

Very nice graphic novel / adaptation of the film by the HEAVY METAL folks - rare-as-f**k but I was lucky enough to snare a copy in New York a few years ago.

Is it really that rare? That's kinda funny since I happen to have it. It's very good in my opinion, I really like the art.

Would love to own that mate,i do have a couple of books, one on the making of,and the other is a frame by frame story book, also the novel of course. And i totaly agree with you,A L I E N,ALIENS and PREDATOR are unbeatable, and should never be remade.

Its a shame that Fincher never had the control he should have had for Alien3.

I am sure we would be talking about a trilogy that would never be beaten............

Alien 3 had a difficult production, with various screenwriters and directors getting involved in the project, and shooting even started without a finished script. After the film was ready, the studio reworked it without Fincher's consent. This is also true for the reworked DVD from the Quidilogy box set, which he refused to take part in,even though they added some of the lost footage. It was never released the way he had planned, and why he refuse's now for the suits to see the rushes of his new movies.

Its a pity that Fincher holds such a grudge that he declined to take part in the Quadrilogy set.Fair enough,he felt screwed over the making of the film, but they offered him a chance to do a director cut and he could have spoken his mind in a commentary or one of the documentaries. Its not like the docs arent refeshingly honest about the whole affair.

I agree - a little input from Mr. Fincher would have been a welcome addition. I remember back in 91-92, anticipation for ALIEN 3 was HUGE. It is a bit of a disappointment but you can see that there was a chance this could have been a great film.

Have those and A L I E N original UK poster the books i've already mentioned, the tape cassette of the sound track. And the movie itself on Super 8MM film(20minite version) plus Laserdisc,VHS box set of the first three Alien movies plus the first DVD box set of the four, and the new and improved Quadrilogy box set.And agree it's sad Fincher couldn't bury the axe(in the producers skulls)and do some sort of Directors cut plus give his opion on the events that turned him off Alien 3.

wow - you certainly have me beat in terms of various format evil bill; I currently only have ALIEN and ALIENS on the two-disc sets from the big 'quadrilogy' release. More than likely I'll get 'em on blu-ray though.
