The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY set has been sat on Snake-Eyes' shelf alongside AVATAR: EXTENDED EDITION, T2: SKYNET EDITION, GLADIATOR and a whole bunch of other unopened blu-rays for YONKS. However, I have 14 days annual leave comin' up soon...

btw - I reckon 'DUMBO' is 'coolstar' a.k.a. 'moviestar2'

You better open that box set son or Aliens will come after you.

This might be a stupid question, but if there are clearly thousands of eggs on the crashed derelict ship, where are all the aliens?

Ah, therein lies just another of the many mysteries of ALIEN.

Man! I'm well effed off! Turns out that there WILL indeed be single releases of the Four films!

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Alien-Blu-ray/5086/

I KNEW I shoulda waited! I still have the 'Anthology' box set, unopened sitting on my shelf. Might snare ALIEN and ALIENS and then lose the set on eBay or something.

Possibly the best SF ever made if you don' take AVP in to account.

One of my favorites--I like it better than Aliens by far.
I prefer the original concept of the alien turning victims into eggs--Queen alien is too earth-insect like for me.

Giger is the star as far as I am concerned, without his design it would have been sorely lacking. And I guess without Mario Bava's Planet of the Vampires it wouldnt have had some of its atmosphere either.

Curious about what Scott will do but if it reveals where the derelict ship comes from and has the space jockey walking around(unless in a dream sequence or hallucination) then I dont like it.
Having some mystery is a good thing (as the Star Wars prequels proved).

I think AvP was a huge missed opportunity--not a really bad movie just a really bad alien vs predator match up.

Requiem kept me amused for ripping off some many things from the previous movies and pushing the envelope (the maternity ward stuff was rather shocking)--and it was funny how just about everyone died but the two brothers, hmm.
The fight between the Predator and Predalien was not too bad I thought-maybe because they copied Predator's fight and had the music.
I really loathed how the previous AvP made the predator work with the human(just like in the first Dark Horse comic- couldnt stand that)
The predator should be an ahole and a sore loser.

I hated Predators though--nice idea but..
I think it went  cheap(having predator dogs that are never shown killing anyone) and alien prey that also never do anything, having shorter predators...and Adrian Brody being stronger and smarter than both Arnie and the predator(punching him in the face--Arnie was only able to give his predator a nudge with his best punch). Pathetic.

The concept floated around in the early 90s with Arnie being kidnapped and dropped on a predator planet with other aliens who had defeated a predator might have been great.
But I dont think the predator works well without AS  and we'll see how the Alien works without SW.

Imagine if Giger and Bava had got together???
From what Scott has said his back story will reveal why the Alien was created??Which as you said will spoil that great mystery we all love.

I still haven't opened up the 'anthology' blu-ray set - just as well as there are indeed single releases coming our way and I reckon I'll be snaring the first two films.

But when the whole set is 20 quid on Amazon I think I be getting that as the new releases are bound to be at least 15 each

I know 3 and 4 are no where near as good as the first two,but as Rich pointed out the blu ray box set is still a bargain, with the extra two discs of extras,a must have.

Yeah, I suppose you're right bill. Like I say, I have the Anthology set sat unopened on the shelf. Might just crack it open next week and watch the first two with the Love of my Life.

Just pre-ordered the Alien Vault after reading the review in the latest Empire. Looks like it's full of cool stuff about the making of this film

Been a while since I've watched ALIEN. Gonna take some time off work soon and watch all four films when I finally crack open the anthology blu-ray set. So, ALIEN 3 will get another chance.

Have you watched the 'Assembly Cut'? It renders the TC unwatchable I reckon. There's much more of a coherent structure and it actually is a great film.

hey juan,

I started watching the 'assembly cut' of ALIEN 3 when the films were released in that (awfullly titled) 'Quadrilogy' set. As I mentioned, I'll be giving ALIEN 3 another shot when I start watching all of 'em back-to-back. I remember when I worked at ALIEN WAR; with only a few exceptions, all of us hated the third film at the time. But I do find the actual making of the film to be a fascinating account.

Much of a muchness really. I don't think one's better than the other, just marginally different.

Didnt Scott say the theatrical cut was his prefered version?

I quite like the Ripley and Lambert fight in the DC, but otherwise I'd go with the TC

I think the attack on Brett is edited better in the TC and the scene with Lambert and Dallas impregnated didn't make sense as the Xenomorph wasn't a queen. Other than that I like the DC better.

Was that not explained as another way the aliens could reproduce in the absence of a queen?

Admittedly not in the movie, but I seem to remember Ridley Scott saying that somewhere.

In Alien the idea was that the xenomorph cocooned his impregnated victims and the cocoons become the eggs. The only reason why Cameron was able to add the queen to the mythology in Aliens is because in the original theatrical version of Alien, Scott cut the cocoon scene for pacing reasons. It has been re-instated in the directors cut.

I always figured that the eggs could survive for a very long time while the other life cycles of the alien were much shorter. Nobody had been to the planet for hundreds of years, so the adult aliens had died off.

Ah, yes. That sounds familiar.

Still prefer the orginal theatrical version,as pointed out the attack on Brett looks and feels more intense, and the cocoon scene didn't add anything to the overall story.
