It's a shame but the product placement pays for some of the budget. Quantum of Solace had some funding from Coco-Cola:

Bond drinking beer? Whatever next? I mean, it's not like he ordered a Red Stripe in Dr. No.

Oh wait, no, he did.

And it's a good thing that none of this 'budget paid for by product placement' never happened in Brosnan's era. Oh wait, the entire budget for Tomorrow Never Dies was paid for by product placement agreements with eight major brands.

Gunbarrel at the end?

Seems to be a lot of hand wringing from the fanboys about where the gun barrel thingy will be located, or indeed if there ever will be one.

But I ask you this question: does it really matter? Will it be detrimental to the film as a whole? I'm posing an actual, honest question here.

it does matter, especially as its the 50th anniversary year.
i understand the need to experiment in the previous craig bonds but i really want to know i am watching a bond movie from the start this time.

The lead character being named James Bond isn't enough of a hint for you?

It doesn't matter at all. I'm going to sound like a bit of blow hard prick by saying this, but all this crying over the gun barrel thing is fucking lame.

Totally agree, if it's a good film then it's a good film, likewise if it's a bad one but the gun barrel or lack thereof will have nothing to do with the quality of the film.

Of course, I still think Henry Cavill might get the role. Yes, I know he's Superman, but he was down to the last two last time and lost it for being too young - plus the Bond producers have a habit of coming back to actors they thought were previously too young (Dalton, Brosnan).

The producers didn't think they were too young - Dalton thought he was too young when he was asked back in the late 60s, and they were perfectly happy to cast Brosnan in The Living Daylights - AFAIK he was never considered for the part until then.

Yeah it does matter.

Without the gunbarrel and the James Bond theme we could be watching Never Say Never Again or Casino Royale (1967) for all we know.

Eon pride themselves on being the official producers of Bond. Well keep it that way.

However after watching SkyFall I do understand why it is at the end, because I believe that finally Bond is now 007 so to speak, and not prematurely as we thought at the end of QoS.

Ah well, I'm sure Cavill will still be in contention when Craig's time is up.

Also, after watching World Without End recently, I think Oliver Jackson-Cohen might be a contender in a few years time. Ditto with Rupert Friend who's currently showing up in Homeland.

Any news on Bond 23?

Also any views on Sky's Top 22 Bond Moments?

Not sure I agree with the laser beam from Goldfinger being the best ever Bond moment!

For me it is the ski jump, which was number 2 in the vote, but I think sums up the very best of Bond.

Plus for Casino Royale I prefer the ending rather than the free running. I love it when Mr White is scrambling about with a damaged leg after asking "Who are you? Or who is this?" And we then see Craig with a massive machine gun uttering that line.
