According to the press screenings, the gun barrel scene is not at the beginning of Skyfall.

Outrageous. But then let's not forget everyone praised Casino Royale even though it featured the incredibly disrespectful line when Bond is asked "vodka martini, shaken not stirred?" and Bond replies with something like "do I look like I care?"

I have no idea if this is serious or sarcastic....

Anyway, during The Million Pound Drop on Channel 4 tonight there was a great tv spot for this. I thought it was brilliant! The Aston reveal, the humour between Dench and Bond and between Bond and Q was great, a bad guy that looked like Odd Job, Bardem looking great, some more great looking action and just an overall feel that this is going to be a really special Bond movie. I think this looks fucking great.

I really hope it lives up to the promise shown in the trailers. If it does, I expect Sam Mendes to be a much sought after director for any number of future comic book adaptations.....

He's always been a great director in my eyes, but never really one I considered for big budget stuff. However, the glimpses from Skyfall suggest he may be very, very good at directing action and we know he can do drama and story. Batman reboot anyone??

First review is in over at Daily Mail, however, it's less a review and more a "I've seen it, I've seen it!" style boast with no substance to the review, although it does suggest it's very very good with an eventual rating of 5 stars. Not going to get too excited by the 'review' but everything is shaping up very nicely.

IGN have a review up too http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/10/13/skyfall-review Very positive, particularly about Javier Bardem and providing a fairly detailed analysis of what works.

I never realised that a two second sequence before even the pre-credit scenes was enough to make or break a movie. Man, have I been living in ignorance...

He looks like a Russian assassin from Saint Petersburg , hardly a suave secret agent living on the Kings Road, Chelsea. He's a decent enough actor but nah, Bond fans got sold a fake Bond back in 2006's Casino Royale. He was miscast. All this stuff about this being best Bond film ever - it's been heard a million times since From Russia With Love was released. It's classic 'bait em' promotion to get people to see the film. And the media are complicit in this. I'm sure Skyfall will be decent but people have to praise it as "the best ever" to sell the film. Anyway, just my opinion. Blah blah and more blah.

By the way, in that train clip it looks like the bad guy is giving anal sex to Craig's Bond. Now that is something new for the franchise.

Bit of intentional comedy, I suspect. Anyway, I'm sure the film will be fun and all that.

I won't lie, it's very silly to have it at the end like QOS. But it was hardly going to make that a good film having it at the start.

Why do they need product placement to fund the movies anyway? These movies have made the Bond people zillionaires over the years.How could they be short of cash to fund the films?

But you have to keep the cash flowing - it raises revenue which is then invested in the next film and so on and so forth. It was quite clever of them to make the marketing a key part of the films - the fans want to know what car he has etc.

I actually thought it worked to have the gun barrel at the end of QoS. Casino Royale incorporated it into the opening assasination so it didnt feel like the traditional gun barrel, but it was there and felt right for that movie, given how it took Bond back to a non-00 status in that opening. During Casino Royal and QoS he was essentially developing into the Bond character we know, and it's one overall story really (I've always viewed QoS as Casino Royale 1.5 and it feels like a continuing story and sequel rather than just another Bond adventure). Having the gun barrel at the end of that kinda signalled the start of Bond to me, so I liked it. Given that's how QoS ended, I would've liked to see the gun barrel return to the start for Skyfall (has it been confirmed it does/doesnt?) but it's not a deal breaker. The following 140 minutes is more important to me than the one dedicated to the gun barrel.

So with Craig signed on to do another two Bond films, that means a new actor won't be cast in the role for another... 6 years?

With that in mind, is there a chance that current favourite Fassbender might be too old for the role by then? He's 35/36 now...

I'm thinking that the most likely contenders are the young British/Irish/Commonwealth actors that are around 28/29 now, so will be 35ish when the opportunity comes up - your Tom Hiddlestons, your Aidan Turners, your
Charlie Coxs - actors who are too young now, but won't be in a few years time.

Of course, I still think Henry Cavill might get the role. Yes, I know he's Superman, but he was down to the last two last time and lost it for being too young - plus the Bond producers have a habit of coming back to actors they thought were previously too young (Dalton, Brosnan).

The ONLY thing holding him back is the fact that's he's now Superman. If it's a hit, his career and price tag will rocket, however there's no reason why an actor can't juggle or try to juggle multiple franchises - Daniel Craig (Bond, Girl With The...), Hugh Jackman (X-Men, Van Helsing), etc. Even if it's a flop, I don't think that would hold him back significantly from getting the gig. Plus he really does look the part.
