1. The legendary ski jump off the cliff to certain death only to sprout a Union Jack parachute
2. The beautiful Lotus Espirit which when being chased by a nasty helicopter drives off a jetty into the Med, and transforms into a submarine... with guided missiles, of course.

We need the style, sophistication and smart arse moments that make Bond, Bond.

"Red wine with fish?"

Aren't the Bond films, especially the later Roger Moore ones, renowned for cashing in on whatever's big at the time?
Live and Let Die - Blaxploitation films.
Moonraker - Star Wars.
Octopussy - Indiana Jones.
The second half of A View To A Kill - The second half of Superman The Movie.
Casino Royale / Quantum Of Solace - The Bourne films.
They haven't really been at the vanguard of action cinema since the Connery films.

bond movies have never regained the trendsetting heights of the 60s but i think m g wilson was right to recapture the fleming elements in the 80s bonds.

using the short stories after the main books had been carelessly adapted and used up by the end of the 70s helped the series regain its mojo.

FYEO, OP, TLD and even LTK felt more fresh than LALD, MR and GG.

as far as QoS i feel it a cold but still entertaining film featuring the kind of action you would not get in a bourne movie.
but would still pick other bonds over it to watch on a rainy bank hols or xmas.

I've been working from home recently and watching most of my Bond movies, but I have been LOVING the Sir Roger Moore audio commentaries. The man may not have been my favourite Bond, but he is a legend and a gentleman. Especially when it comes to his acting ability. "I have three expressions: left eyebrow up, left eyebrow down, clench jaw!"

The Spy Who Loved Me is still one of my favourite Bond films, but after watching them for the first time in years, I really enjoyed Moonraker and Octopussy for pure 'escapism Bond'. Even if Sir Roger himself does note he's looking a bit haggard by Octopussy...

I will admit to liking a couple of his Bond films, even if sometimes during the romantic scenes he come across as a bit of a sleaze.

Post Bourne Trilogy I find the new Bond movies lacking. I am not a fan of Daniel Craig as Bond and have been bored to tears with his efforts so far, however Im liking the latest trailer and Im hopeful this might be an improvement. Looks like he might acutally be doing his thunkin the UK for once?!

After a disappointing summer, this one has potential as film of the year...If Mendes and co mess this one up, I think the producers need to clean house with an entire new cast (including Craig). ***** rating - here's hoping...

I agree in that the Craig Bond movies are trying to be like Bourne, but I am pleased that Mendes has apparently thrown the shaky camerawork away and brought a bit of traditional 007 stuff back in.

Oh and please the gunbarrel opening at the fecking start as well as a couple of uses of the James Bond theme within the actual film!

I love the endless moving of goalposts and constant self-justification of this. Why some people are so insecure about what is and what isn't a Bond film, I have no idea.

It's really incredibly simple - they're Bond films whether you like it or not. Saying they're not makes you look stupid and like a whiny 14-year-old.

Actually Moore does say 'best actor' - I think that's quite different as well. Although the book thing is rather shoddy - it's not as if Moore won't be being asked this kind of stuff all the time anyway.

Irrespective - CB won't be discussing Craig/Bond so it's a bit redundant

The thing that struck about the trailers I have seen for this flick is that it looks visually lush. Certainly the best looking footage I have seen for a Bond film.

If nothing else it will certainly look very pretty.

EDIT - Elab, I think the word "discuss" is a total misnomer in this case.

It's exactly 50 years after the release of Doctor No (05/10/52), so that's the milestone for the character, nicely, timed for the celebration to contribute to the hype for the new film, plus when the new film is released they'll want people watching that, not a documentary about Bond, so no sense in combining the new film and the celebration as far as the studio is concerned.

Hopefully, we'll see a resolution to the QUANTUM threat in the next one and that 'Skyfall' will be the 'Goldfinger' to the previous two film's recurring threat (SPECTRE/QUANTUM).
