ORIGINAL: Timon Am I the only one that kind of likes the lack of humour? I mean, I know Bond traditionally has a bit of sly humour in the films, but the literary character doesn't (I'm not saying the two have to be identical!) and the current storylines don't exactly lend themselves to quips. I mean, Bond is getting into his stride as a 00-agent, he's lost the love of his life, quest for revenge, loses a friend in Matthis and reveals a mult-national organisation bent on destabilising the world.... I like the colder, harder Bond. A Bond that kills coldly harshly, has a drink to calm his nerves, washes the blood off him and moves on. It fits in to today's current climate. He has a licence to kill after all, let him use it. Saying all the above though, I'm open to the idea of introducing more gadgets via Q and some casual flirting with Moneypenny, just as long as the gadgets don't overshadow the man and the flirting doesn't become a parody. I kind of miss the quips but there's no point throwing them in just for the sake of it. Apparently a lot of Connery's tended to be ad-libbed during discussions he had with the director/s and reflected their sense of humour perhaps more than Flemings. With Connery's quips i get the impression it's because he's a smug bastard, which is something i like to see in Bond, with Moore they were just cheesy.
