with quantum of solace out today i figured id start a thread for the next instalment. as mentioned in my review for the film, i mentioned how im actually really excited for quantums follow up, a first for me. where would people like to see the film head next, and please keep any craig-bashing comments to the relevant craig-bashing threads over in musings. having read the empire article last month on bond i would personally like to see the new york set story thats often mentioned in such articles. i felt the CIA thread in quantum perhaps suggested a deeper level of involvement within the american government (or indeed world governments) with regards to the people behind the mysterious organisation refered to in casino royale and quantum of solace, so that could be a reason to head to new york. im just grasping at straws here, but speculation is always fun.

according to dark horizons, marc forster shot an alternative ending, which gave a batman begins-esque teaser towards a sequel. i cant wait to see what it is.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS

I reckon we can be pretty certain no 23 will feature Bond further investigting QUANTUM (and hopefully getting that bastard White) Whether or not he manages to brong them down remains to be seen. I do think we might get a lighter touch with the next film though or a least a less intense Bond. I'm not convinced a return to rhe gadget laden, innuedo fests of the past (much as I like them) would work.

I'd like to see something set in Australia, mainly becuuase Bond's never been there (in the films at least). An action sequence around Sydney Harbour bridge or the Opera House would go down a treat.

cheers scruffybobby, for reminding me that there will no doubt be spoilers in here, so just to re-iterate, dont read this thread if your expecting it not to infringe on your viewing of quantum of solace. iv changed the title of the thread accordingly so you have no excuse to moan if you have anything spoiled for you!

I'm thinking that Mr White is head of Quantum... read in several places that Quantum paves the way for a sequel. So the whereabouts of Mr White or Bond hunting him down would be genius... Pure genius.

I enjoyed Quantum of Solace a hell of a lot more than I thought I would so Iím quite interested in Bond 23 at the moment. Iíve read that some of it will be set in New York according to Variety Magazine; anyway I just wonder which acclaimed European actor will be cast as the villain this time.

hunting him down in new york perhaps.....?

i think a 70's style, french connection influenced, gritty-city based film set in new york is the way to go. besides iv always thought the action in casino royale and quantum lent more to french connection and friedkin than the often mentioned bourne.

just read this over at a bond forum -

"
Quantum of Solace DVD Deleted-Scene Details Revealed

By Thomas Leupp

Caution -- Massive Spoilers Ahead!!!

Jesper Christensen as Mr. White in MGM/Columbia Pictures' Quantum of Solace At today's press day for the new James Bond flick Quantum of Solace, director Marc Forster revealed that he'd originally intended the film to end with something of a cliffhanger -- as opposed to the current ending, which effectively serves as a bookend to the two-chapter storyline that began with 2006's Casino Royale.

"There was a scene after where the movie ends now," explained Forster. "The movie felt sort of complete with Bond finding his 'quantum of solace.' If I would have kept the scene, then producers wouldn't have had a choice but to make it a trilogy. Now they can start new. They have that opportunity."

Forster added that the excised scene, a little over a minute in length, is slated to appear on the Quantum of Solace DVD. And what vital information does it contain? "Let's put it this way: Bond encounters Mr. White at the end of that scene," he teased, hinting at the possibility that White may be the chief architect of the conspiracy at the heart of the film. "You wouldn't have had a choice at the end of that but to follow that lead."

Bond fans will remember Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) as the villain in Casino Royale who executes terrorist financier Le Chiffre before being captured by 007. In Quantum of Solace, the name of the shadowy, SPECTRE-like organization to which Mr. White belongs is revealed to be Quantum.

Is Mr. White the new Blofeld? Bond fans will have the opportunity to parse the deleted scene and decide for themselves when Quantum of Solace arrives on DVD in 2009.

That sounds interesting, but I'm glad the ending is as it is. I really enjoyed Quantum of Solace...after having slept on it I like it more than my initial reaction. I can't wait for Bond 23...wonder who the director will be this time. I'd rather prefer Haggis wrote the script for the next one. Just him.

Oh, and if some of Bond 23 is in New York, The UN might be a part of it? Quantum probably have infiltrated there.

I know Mr White is the head of Quantum, he'd hardly put himself in harm's way so often if he is such as dealing with African warlords and such.

I'm sure Bond 23 will further seeing Quantum planing bigger ventures much like SPECTRE did over Dr No, From Russia With Love and Thunderball etc.

I imagine the next one with also see the return of Felix Leiter, Bill Tanner and if the rumours are to be believed, the introduction of Q and Moneypenny. I've always wondered if we'll ever see the likes of May, Bond's Scottish housekeeper... but that would involve seeing Bond at home and I doubt the film-makers will do that... unless there's a hit on him at his place of residence.

I'd quite like to see that. I imagine he'd be rather hacked off with Quantum for that.

Oh, quick question: Is it still Quantum or QUANTUM much like SPECTRE? I'm guessing the former because we don't know that it is an acronym.

I think Q Branch will be formed as an organisation within MI6 to take on Quantum. We are told in the new film that M no longer trusts many people within MI6. Therefore you get the branch back, Q and Moneypenny included, and actually give a purpose to it all within the framework of this new universe. The slightly geeky guy at MI6 in Solace is a hint towards all this I think.

I donít believe Mr. White is the head of Quantum. Not much of an announcement for the filmmakers if the bad guy is someone we have seen already. I expect he is a top guy, but is working for someone above him. I suspect that last scene would have been his dead at the hands of Bond for trying to shoot M (he did seem to take that VERY personally) but they left it out to explore his character in the next one.

someone mentioned the deleted scene had something to do with a passport (presumably bond requesting one from M) which indicated something more than anything. i like the chemistry between m and bond, the joke about her not being his mother yet acting like it worked really well and i believe the relationship.

come on then...

suggest actors to be the head of 'Quantum'...

(not an actor who could do a good Blofeld)

I'd love to cast Alan Dale but alas, he plays every other guy in every other series.

Maybe, there's no 'head' of Quantum but a commitee making it a Hydra-esque organisation, you can't just remove 'one' head to kill the organisation.

I also imagine QUANTUM is an acronym much like SPECTRE and that they also deal in extortion after seeing their plans in Bolivia. I bet they're responsible for this Credit Crunch....

Damm you Quantum!

Sean Connery.

It would be the biggest and most hilarious piece of stunt casting but would be wonderful in a surreal way. I know Connery's retired too so I can't see it ever happening but I'd love to see it

Here's how I see it happening.

2011, Bond 23 opens in the summer. The first time a Bond film gets a summer release since License to Kill.

Risico

Theme song by Muse.

Daniel Craig returns as Bond. Its not immediately after QoS but follows the ongoing story of the Quantum of Solace. Since we last saw him Bond has learned more about the organisation, mot likely traced down a couple of the heads we saw at the Opera and now finally comes face to face with Mr. White again. "It's been a long time, Mr.White" This kicks off a chain of events that led Bond to get involved in the mix of Quantum's latest sinister plot and possibly meet its leader (Blofeld???). Of course if Craig does return for a fourth film, said leader will probably escape to die another day. (see what I did there? ) also possibly something involving the Prime Minister since its been revealed that people in his inner circle are part of Quantum?

Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are quite keen to have some of the film shot in New York so expect Felix Leiter to return. There has been speculation that Camille would return as well, but I can't see that happening. What point would her character serve in any sequel? I definitley think Bill Tanner will return now they've re-established his character and of course Judi Dench as M. Personally I still think they'll still hold off on Q and Moneypenny returning to the series but I can see MI6 showing a more high tech side. MI6 was so much better this time than what we saw in CR, which was essentially a camp secretary and a bunch of boffins gathered round a single computer arguing, and I hope will continue to see more of the same.

funnily enough i thought this myself. removing the sole shred of family/reliability in bonds world would surely send the films into even darker territory tho, which is fine by me, but some of the more stubborn fans on this board may actually explode with evolution-confusion.

As drastic as that sounds it wouldnt be a bad thing . Shes been M for ages now , a new M could come along with a Q in tow .

i cant believe you're suggesting they kill off m!
judi dench rules!

can't agree with any of you on that!
disgraceful suggestion lol

23 will obviously be set with bond getting deeper and deeper into the mysteries of Quantum. I'm considering the possibility that Bond will lse his british citizenship or something, as a result of Quantum's infiltration of the cabinet...
Scenes in New York would be awesome.
And no chance mr white is planned to be the head of Quantum if it was planned that he'd get killed off, obviously they'll be someone bigger, badder, and foreigner :P
shame we've lost Greene though, he was wicked.
