Fuck, this is escalating fast!!!!

On a slightly off topic side-note, can't see why Tech's thread got locked, this is absolutely a news and hot topic, especially as it is now beginning to spread to other cities around the country...!

Apparently they are kicking off in Clapham Junction now...

Yeah I've seen that on Twitter too, and one of my sisters friends who lives in London has said the same. I'm not sure where she lives exactly though, but her local tube station has been closed.

Should we change the name of this thread to make it a catch all or start a new one? It seems to be going beyond London now....

I think it might be appropriate to reopen Tech's thread in News and Hot Topics. Maybe some of the posts in this thread could be moved over (not sure if that's possible on this orum however).

I'm sorry, I'm really fucking angry tonight about these attacks on my city. I know this is the London thread, and that there are attacks in London at the moment going on throughout the city, and I feel for all those caught up in these riots, but now it's on my doorstep.

I feel exactly the same way you do about London. These fires and gratuitous acts of violence are happening mainly in impoverished areas. Those companies/shops are likely to think "sod it, not going to reopen here if that what happens". Then it will become even more impoverished so they are just cutting off their nose......... The people rioting/looting (I refuse to say protesting as I don't believe they are) right now are just doing so because they think it's fun/their mates are doing it. I bet some of them don't even know what happened in Tottenham last week!

I loved Brum, the times I visited.

it's the London-centric view of the country, it's okay for other parts of the country go up in flames, the shit gets real if the capital is affected

I was just thinking about re-opening it to be honest as at the time I didn't think it was going to get this big (and it was only in London then and was already being discussed in here)

I'm kind of thinking the other way round - I'm finding it more shocking now it isn't just the arse-end areas of the capital that are under attack.  It's makes you wonder when it'll stop!

I was hilariously implying that it wouldn't make a huge amount of difference.

I thought you were from Surrey?

I hope these business owners have adequate insurance, my sympathies go out to the police who are probably just completely outnumbered and spread too thinly. This is nuts.

Yeah have been watching throughout the day and caught up just over dinner. Crazy, really hard to believe this is going on and is escalating so far on. It does show how powerless the police are at the moment- where are the water cannons and whatever else?

On another note this also proves how fucked up we all would be if these was a zombie outbreak.

I moved south ten years ago, northerners are intelligent enough to get jobs in the south you know. Still means I care about my home city.

I can't see how this will end otherwise, the police don't look like they can cope. Unless they're waiting for the rioters to just get bored and go home?

I think seeing as he has the most important job in the country - he should always put the country before his holidays. He should have come much sooner. He made that sacrifice when he got voted in.

If they can identify any of the thugs then they should go and loot their homes see how they like it!

Seriously though, I can't see this dying out completely any time soon

Several big fires in Croydon which is not far from me at all so I'm thinking it's likely my town will be next

If it kicks off in Sutton, they'll think it's an average saturday night on the high street

Good point!  I'm a fair bit away from Sutton high st but there's been a few sirens going off...a mate was working at a pub there and he said there's a few people standing around and they've closed the big Asda at the bottom and there's a lot of police around.  No rioting yet

If my grandparents can cancel their holidays early because their water pipes have burst, I think Cameron can cancel his because the capitol city of his country is under attack from riots.

I think the rain might make a difference - people will be less inclined to loot when it's raining I reckon. And it would help with the fires.

The one time England wouldn't complain about the rain...

And what do you then expect him to do that he couldn't do on holiday? Do you think if he tells the rioters to stop they will listen to him?

The current rioting has fuck all to do with politics.
