The above quote above was first spoken in the legendary Teen Wolf, not that film about a CGI web-slinging superhero (OK, OK, there was never a Teen Wolf comic prior to the movie...) and I think the 1985 Michael J Fox basketball classic should definitely be in this list. Whether it's the scene in which he 'Wolfs-out' on court or in the climatic Beavers Vs Dragons match, the sheer heart, emotion and skill of er, the gigantic Fox's skills with a basketball - it deserves its place, with all respect to the mighty Gene H.

Pool isn't a sport so the basic terms are screwed. No futuristic action ah la Rollerball, but Shaolin Soccer is included? And Lagaan - where exactly is the sports scene. Interminably long and all the same last time I saw it.

Its got Slap Shot in so it can't be all bad.

But quite how Rocky can make it and Raging Bull can't is a bit of a mystery. The writer says he's going to explain why then doesn't cos his Bull Durham defense only really works for that film.

The list also suggests that the writer either doesn't class baseball as a sport or hasn't seen The Natural, which is manipulated to hell and beyond, but the winning against impossible odds honourably is a great sporting scene. This is further backed up by no Frank Drebin officiating in Naked Gun, surely one of the funniest sporting montages in a film.

Oh c'mon empire, surely Sly Stallones performance in 'Escape to Victory' as the goalkeeper for the allied team is easily his greatest ever sporting scene!? just look at his skills.... lol

Also - i cant beleive that the mighty ducks missed out - the flying V is a classic move - i apply it to all sports I play, Football / basketball / rugby / tennis...

No-one saw it, yet it's fuckin' hilarious. At least one of the games from that should be in here - scenes of note: when the replacement cheerleader squad (comprised mostly of strippers) starts doing a routine distracting enough that Keanu's team wins the play (or whatever it's called). Or the last game, when Keanu has come back to give the team the spirit they need to win and there's that whole 'Pain heals, chicks dig scars, glory lasts forever' huddle, followed immediately by every single player on Keanu's team fouling a member of the opposing team with flying karate kicks and the like.

Also, I'm surprised Any Given Sunday isn't in here - the last game with the Moby track playing while there's four seconds left on the clock is awesome.

The final Cool Runnings bobsled race is missing. NOT HAPPY, JAN.

The ten-pin bowling match in The Big Lebowski where Walter gets a little bit too angry should also be mentioned. It doesn't get much more tense than a Vietnam vet shoving a gun in your face and yelling at his friend to "MARK IT ZERO!" because he thinks you stepped over the line.

The Replacements! I love that film.

"Uh coach isn't this stuff illegal?"
"What are they gonna do, put you in football jail?"

And to echo others no place for Escape to Victory is quite simply a travesty!

No White men can't jump?

woody and wesley can play basketball.

u imagine wesley in jail playing hoops?

look what they do, shot for shot, move for move.

any good sporting scene should show the sport being played properly, skilfully.

portriat of zidane?

Bit of a duff list to be fair. Where's BASEketball? That's the funniest sports movie ever, bar none! Even if it is a made up one. "I hear your mom's going out with SQUEAK!" And if it's not the funniest, it's the second funniest after Kingpin. Fuck Dodgeball. Raging Bull should not have been discounted just because Rocky is so good. They should both be there. Tut tut Mr Singer. Tut tut

One film per sport and when it comes to hockey films, Slap Shot rules them all.

Greatest golfing film ever - Happy Gilmore, how the hell Tin Cup gets placed above this is disgracful. So many great scenes to pick from that film, more than anything the Crazy golf putt to finish and win the match (If you've got Dodgeball you can have a Crazy Golf putt for the final shot on the green).

Being a huge American Football fan and American Football movie fan, I have to say it was a tough choice but in my mind Friday Night Lights did have it purely for the ending, that final scene makes it all the more heartfelt. Though there are some great scenes in Varsity Blues, Any Given Sunday, Remember The Titans (my next contender in American Football films purely for the scene where the Titans are getting demolished and penalised for everything by the refs, only for Coach Yoast to tell the Umpires he isn't going to go along with it and then the hits come hard and fast and Bertier to then stare down the opposition coach - great Football)

Another omission I have to agree with is White Men Can't Jump, while Hoosiers is great, its similar in vain to Friday Night Lights so if that is in your list you have to go for White Men Can't Jump for basketball, great street ball action throughout.

Also, if we're having pool in this list can we include poker then, I mean come on, really I'd have chariots of fire in this list over pool.

Cannot beat the ending of There's Only One Jimmy Grimble, when the scout offers our haples hero the chance to join "The Worlds Greatest Club". To which the boy wonder replies "nah, I've had a better offer, I'm going to City". Never seen so many grown men in manchester cinema wipe away respective tears from there eyes.

Snooker? Thats not even a sport as have snooker why not have a darts movie on there too!!!!
Rocky should have won, even now it still stands up to repeat viewings and makes you believe in Rocky even though you know the outcome that is proof of a good sports movie or scene.
