Finally finished it on Hard Mode and only using the Plasma Cutter, clocked in at 11 hours and 8 minutes by the end, I think I did rather well considering it was my first play through and on hard with just the one weapon.

All that's left to do is go through on Impossible Mode, upgrade all my weapons and kill 30 enemies with each weapon and I'm done, but I think I'll leave that to when I play through it again a few months down the line, I think I can finally start taking all the other games I've bought recently from their seals.

Really amazing game though, the last few chapters were a bit short but christ they were full on, the sheer amount of enemies in one room coming at you was insane. And despite other peoples comments I thought the final boss was excellent, not the most difficult by any means, but then after dying after almost killing it first time around, my second attempt was far different and far harder, when I attempted it second round ***Spoilers*** After shooting out all the weak spots on it's head, it started shooting explosive balls at me and about 4 of those fat enemies attacked me (the usual necromorph just fat) while it was also attacking me with it's tentacles. Fair enough to say I died. Next time I attempted it no such things happened. I just had to dodge it's tentacles as I shot it's head, then again as I shot it's chest. *** Spoilers End***

Anyway, loved it, loved the story and atmospher and loved the ending, just gotta hope that we see a Dead Space 2 in the next few years.

I've left the mighty Fallout3 for a night to finish getting my cheevies. Im going to get them all bar the play through with the plasma cutter. As cool as this game is there's too many other sweet titles to contend with. However if I get a chance I man kain it on easy, the fully specced Plasma is a weapon to be reckoned with. I love the twists in the story near the end, a bit predictable if you've played any modern survival shooter/horror.

***SPOILER ALERT****

I felt so, so sorry for Engineer Temple, or whatever his name was. he's the guy who left lots of handy audio logs through out the game. he managed to dodge, survive everything the ship managed to throw at him and then get staked by the doctor, there was a female corpse beside his so I assume it's his missus he was trying to find. I could be wrong but it makes for a horrible little ending to such a horrible story. I like the low digs at scientology as well.

***SPOLER OVER***

All in all wicked game with wicked, original weapons and I just wish it was a few levels longer.

Only really just got round to playing this. Why have all the reviews score for this game been so low? e.g. Eurogamer 7????

I've only just completed the second chapter, and so far this is easily one of the best games I've played this year.

I concur that this game is truly awesome! I've been taking it very slow, exploring each room to death and I've got to the start of Level 5, clocking in 8 hours of gameplay. The soundtrack and sound effects are particularly noteworthy, so it's well worth playing it with a decent sound system or wearing headphones.

One question..... I missed the Ripper schematic on Level 3, so does that mean I won't get the oppurtunity to get the Ripper unless I go back to a previous saved game on Level 3 and collect the schematic, or will it eventually appear in the shop even though I missed the schematic? I've checked around on forums - some people seem to be saying it'll appear in the shop eventually even if you missed the schematic, and some people are saying if you missed the schematic you won't ever be able to buy the weapon without starting again or going back to a previous save.......

No it's balls, you'll be able to pick it up later I'm sure. I think there' more than one schematic per gun in the game but I could be getting confused with Fallout. if not when you finish it you get given a shit load of money so you can buy it.

Cheers. It turns out I actually had the Ripper all along. Plus the Contact Beam. They were in the shop, but because all my weapon slots were full, none of the other weapons were highlighted. I didn't realise I had to sell a weapon to create a space, so that I could buy a new one. I'm such a c*ck sometimes! Anyway, I now have the Ripper... and it rocks!

You can store your unused weapons in the safe, you don't have to sell them.

Having just finished I think I can now say that it's my game of the year, without a doubt. It was just pure class from start to finish, everything from design of levels, lighting, story and pacing is expertly done.

I just finished it last night. It is easily the most fun I've had playing a game since Bioshock. It's one of those games I can't wait to get home and start playing.

Gears of War 2 is getting started tonight. I hope it's as much fun as Dead Space was.

Played the dismemberment demo of this today. I've not played the full game so I'm not sure if it's representative of dificulty or not but it was effing solid. Satisfying though.

All those vids are great. Watched quite a few of them so funny. I wouldn't agree with all their points regarding the games but they are a great laugh.

Hopefully getting the game for crimbo!

I've got the PC version of this. Really enjoyed it so far, incredibly atmopsheric.

Seems to have made a big leap forward in difficulty at the moment, which makes me wonder if I've missed something out.

Just completed it this morning and loved everyone minute of it. Never have I enjoyed being shitted up more than with this game.
I've heard talk of a sequel to Dead Space but the ending seemed to tie everything up. Anyone have any idea of where the sequel would go?

Finished this tonight and have to say I thought it was fucking amazing, and the best game I've played since RE:4. Everything about it punched my buttons and it rocked my world.

I can't rate it as high as Resi 4 but I do love this game and it was a horrible experience for all the right reasons. At that ending!!!!! Whoah, I could have went my entire life without that little jolt....you know which bit I mean without spoiling it.

I got this from Santa and only about 2 hours or so in...I like it a lot but I can't play it for that long at a time as it gives me dizziness!  Particularly the zero G bits and just the general spinning around a lot when hearing a noise!

Bit disappointed on first impressions... thought it would be a 'survival horror' in the exploration over action sense, however it just seems another shooter in the Doom 3 mould.

It's as much survival horror as Resi4 is. It's basically Resi4 in space any way (I must have said that about 10 times on this thread now).

Does anyone know that when you finish it and can immediately go through again with all your kit, can you change the difficulty setting? I want to get the 'Epic Level 3 tier Engineer' and keep my stuff rather than start from scratch.

I think you can start again straight away & keep the ultimate suit you earn but lose anything else you have earned. I believe you can only continue with your spruced up weapons etc on the same difficulty level.

Just completed it and loved every minute of it.  Okay it was a bit generic story wise ripping off every science fiction horror from Alien to The Thing, but every facet of gameplay was top notch, its nice to see a developer really bring out the most out of what could have been just another resi-clone.  I think it may even be my favourite of the year (with Fallout), as a single player experience it trumps Gears2.  Resi5's got a lot to live up to.

This is certainly a contender for my single player game of the year along with Fallout 3 as well, both fantastic games. I've nearly done my second play through on hard and while I know whats going to happen it's simply hilarious going through with maxed out weapons. it's worth it just to see how comically wide the line cutter gets!!

It's a shame I'll have to start from scratch to get the One Gun and Epic Engineer though.

I'm going through a second run through comically quick on Hard with a maxed out Level 6 suit and trying to do it with just the Plasma Cutter. It's amazing how quickly you go through things 2nd time around.

Tell me about it, it's still a lot of fun though. Stupidly I've been using various weapons so cheated myself of One Gun but it's damn hilarious and very easy with heavy weapons. I've been mincing about with a maxed out line-gun and Force-gun and haven't been tagged for about 4 chapters now.

Another thing I want to splurge over in this game is the weapons. They are all very unique in function and how they look and you could actually imagine them being handy industrial tools of the future. Also they are all very useful, at first I hated a few like the Assault Rifle and the Ripper but after a few upgrades and practice I realised that all of the weapons are brilliant if they are used in the right mix. It makes the game brutal and tactical.
