Mmmmm, as said above, me like game also. I don't see what all the fuss over it being a complete change from previous games, once you get through the first hour its buisness as usual.

As I crept through the dark corridors of the first few chapters I did begin to think that something really did have to change and I found myself eager to get out of space and on to the ice planet, surely we couldnt enjoy a third game of dead space just trudging around dark corridors for ten hours?

This could come as a SPOILER but








the arrival on the "Hoth" as Borstal named it is pretty epic

NOT REALLY SPOILERS BUT MENTIONS HOW MANY LEVELS BEFORE HOTH

Thats what Im thinking. Im still really enjoying the pre tau votis (hoth) stuff as its truly DS but I didnt think it would be so long before you get there. Im on chapter 5 or 6 and not a snowflake in sight!

 Just popped in the second disc and am loving it so far. Yes, it's more action based, but the scares are still there (albeit mostly cheap jump scares) and it still oozes atmosphere. The space walking bit are great fun and the optional missions I've done so far have been intense. The Greely, specifically.

SPOILERS Only reached Tau Voulantis round about Chapter 10. Just before the disc swap. END SPOILERS

 So i'm still working my way through DS2 (on Chapter 7!)... Is DS3 worth a purchase now or is it one of those games best picked up when dropped down to about £15? I actually picked DS1 and DS2 for £10 new/pre-owned respectively but I'm liking The Thing/ice planet homage with DS3 (plus I'm impatient! )

So, question for those of you playing DS3

I loved the first two games but have really been put off by the whole co-op thing, along with the developers stating that they wanted to make it 'less frightening'.
Iv seen a number of reviews that have been less than complementary, listing dull gameplay and non existent story (the two biggest draws of the series).

Is it really that much of a change from the last two, or is it still Dead Space that I know and love?

 Ive not touched co-op but from what Ive read its meant to be quite good. If you liked the last two I think you'll enjoy it. Its still got bags of atmosphere and scares but with more action pieces. I can't fault it so far.

 They aren't short I know that much, been a while since I played the first two.

The co-op in this is great, and without spoiling anything somehow managers to make the campaign more unnerving than the solo!

The chapters in the first game are quite lengthy, take a good 1-2hrs to complete and get longer as the game progresses. The chapters in DS2 start out relatively short in comparison but then get longer, as I said I'm only on Chpater 7 at the minute so have a way to go but the reason it's taken me this long to get back into it (i've had DS2 about a year or so now) is because it just got way too repetitive and I got bored.

The thing I like with DS3 is that it changes the environment to that ice planet so it gives a slightly different experience. I've enjoyed going back to DS2 but its major problem is that it's essentially too much like DS1 but with a bigger budget!

See, I went and replayed Dead Space 2 last week and flew through it, but on my first play through I reckon the fear doubled (at least) the time it took.

But the chapters themselves are of a reasonable length. I reckon a good 10 hours for the whole game first time round.

I think Dead Space took me around 20 hours, and DS2 took about 12

Remeber the first time i played Dead Space, you get locked in a room early on with your crew on the other side. Anyway this Necromorph came from nowhere quick as a flash and i screamed, the wife was upstairs and though i was being attacked...which in a way i was...just mentally not in real life

One of the things i do when playing a game like Dead Space is sing to myself, usually Bright Eyes from Watership Down, seems to calm me whilst wasting Necromorphs.

 I get some people dont find it scary in the same way some people dont cry watching the Iron Giant THE MASSIVE FREAKS! However listening to most people the general consensus is that it is a nervy experience.

Just don't leave that rocking horse behind you and forget its there.

Go for it. DS1 is a great game and you’re missing out by not playing it. It is soil-yourself-jumpy in places but it’s a great ride and the combat is incredibly satisfying.

I don’t know how the graphics hold up now, but on release, it was a great-looking game and the sound design is superb. Given that the Resident Evil series has gone to shit, this has taken some of the elements of what made Resi decent, and run with them.

 It's not that bad. You'll get to a point where you just want to quit after being stood in one corner for an hour...too terrified to move on and you'll go to bed weeping while your wife looks at you in disgust thinking of the man you used to be. Fun times.

T'is definitely the tension more than anything, you get used to the jump scares after a few chapters but the tension is always cranked to 11.
