TBH I sort of flew through the workbench bit as I was wanting to get on with the demo. Im hoping it will allow for some tinkering and personal modifactions. I hope it just not a more long winded version of the bench in the first two.

Eyes on reviews!

I finally managed to complete Dead Space 2 on Hardcore mode, that foam hand is so worth it!
Hope this save gives you something in DS 3 like DS 1 did in DS 2.

Still going through Dead Space 2 ...

No idea why I've dragged it out for so long. It is relentless though and I'm only playing it on Normal. The raptor like necromorphs are bastards.

I got stuck on a bit with the raptor bastards. I have next to no health and hardly any ammo. And I can't track back to find any more.

Also, my only other save is miiiiiiiiiiiiiles back. Tempted to start a new game actually.

SPOILERY ADVICE?...

You can use kinesess (sp?) to fire a spike into the raptors. Keep retrieving it or using dead raptors claws to kill the others.

Hmmm, I shall try that then. I didn't think there was anything you could kinesis off the raptor bastards. To be fair though, I am panicking like mad at that part; not the church bit where they first show up but the one in the room with all the big containers.

Also, IGN review is in. 7.3 they gave it.

I don't know why I keep coming into this thread, I'm dreading reading opinions of anyone that has played DS3 early and says it's

a crap action game with no horror, and reading some of the reviews posted there seems to be a few people who feel that's the

case....

I have to wait until Friday.

CVGs review was mixed...

They have decided to call Dead Space 3 out on moving too far away from the original and its horror roots...

The reviews aren't too bad on the whole, metacritic has quite a few with top marks on there as well, but I think it's safe to say the general consensus is more guns, more ammo, more explosions etc.

The series was always an action game for me anyway, so I can't say that bothers me as much as some people, but I did enjoy the atmosphere it invoked, which seems like it might have been sacrificed somewhat for big set-pieces.

Still giving it a go though, might see if I scrounge it from Lovefilm before I dash out to buy a copy though.

Skimming through all the reviews as to avoid too many spoilers I can say Im still looking forward to this. Like DS2 I accept that things will change so the shift to more action is fine with me. Apparently there are still scares aplenty and a sense of claustrophobia even outdoors.

The one thing that I dont like is the ammo issue. Just one type? The weapon specific ammo of the previous two games made for some big decisions in what you carried.

From some reviews Ive read the story is supposedly great which Im very happy about. I can't wait to see what happens to Isaac.

No it didn't.  You generally pick up ammo for the guns you have and skewed to what you are carrying, in DS2 I only used the Plasma Cutter and the Spear Thrower and I can count on one hand the amount of times I picked up any ammo that wasn't for them.

The reviews I've seen have all been positive, but with a couple of the same issues coming back up.
Mainly that some areas of the game are locked off unless you play in Co-Op, which I think is out of order, but that this also limits your resources, which limits your ability to build which nudges you ever further towards the microtransactions.

I am pleased that the story and world building is getting praised across reviews though.

My apologies. I was talking Hard Core. True that on easier settings you were more prone to pick up ammo for the weapon you had. On the hardest run with less ammo being picked up it was a juggling act with ammo, weapons, med kits etc.

I read something in one review (it may have been Edge) which offered a valid point about the slight shift from horror towards action. It mentioned that DS veterans wont find it as scary simply because they know what to expect mostly. ie corpses jumping up, a door locking behind you when you come to a big open space etc. They compared it to horror movies in that the surprise of the initial outing with its new premise is somewhat pointless to keep replicating.

Most reviews are saying theres still scares and the atmosphere is excellent which is what I want with the new outdoor bits still feeling tense and claustrophic. If the complaints were that DS2 to DS1 was like Aliens to Alien, well I quite liked Alien 3 (not 4 though....too European)

I'll be picking this up tomorrow because the DS series is one of the best current franchises there is. Its scary, got guns, loads of atmosphere except when you EVA.

Empty house, darkness, Dead Space, turtle beach on = a good night in.

and jaffa cakes.

Just picked it up. Apparently its 'Better with Kinect Sensor'

Opened it up, had a sniff, no instruction book, code for co-op and 2 discs (will that help with the one life cheev? I dont think so but heres hoping!). Typical that Im out at a 40th tonight but Mrs B may be staying at a friends tomorrow freeing me up for some late night frights on this.

Also, I bought this in a shop!

Was nice to chat to the old dear for a few minutes. It may have cost a pound or so more than shopto but it was worth it to see the woman smile during her mundane confused existence in the Asda game bit. She was complaining about 'kids bringing in stacks of games with stickers over the bar code' and what a pain it was.

Fuck internet shopping......until they offer a virtual slightly confused but genial old dear Im out.

(or at least until I couldnt be arsed going out to buy a game)

Be interested to hear people's thoughts on this. Reviews seem mostly positive, and I was never one that got annoyed by the changes made in Dead Space 2, so I dont think anything changed up here will annoy me as it seems to with others. I liked the demo, love the atmosphere the games provide and love that single player remains as was, and doesnt force you into co-op with AI partners. Really wish I could pick it up this weekend but have got too much on so it's gunna have to wait a couple of weeks.

Curses! A friend just sent me a text (I hate the word texted) and told me a way around the one life cheevy. Now I know I want to earn it legit but can imagine the frustration is immense especially dying on the last level.

So far so good. Went straight to Hard and Im over a hour in. There is a definite shift towards more action and set pieces but still has some good scares.

The sound as you'd expect from a DS title is fantastic and Ive jumped a fair few times (I was playing in the living room and forgot the boys rocking horse was behind me. I squealed a bit when I turned around and saw it). Im yet to land on Hoth and am currently trudging through some very typical DS corridors. Typically I cant wait to get back on which is something that has proved a rarity playing videogames of late.

Bugger me the opening hour or so certainly isn't short of spectacle is it?

It's incredible looking, narritively very strong and lots of fun don't get me wrong, but if it wasn't for a couple of necromorphs in that opening few levels you'd be forgiven for looking at the case to check you weren't playing Uncharted 4: Drake In Space.

Fortunately once you land on that abandoned ship with the distress signal it's business as usual, the atmosphere and sound design really start to come alive and the Dead Space you know and love rears it's little head.

So yeah, enjoying it so far...

Got to agree with borstal and paulyboy - after a thrilling first hour and Isaac is eventually left to to his own devices it's Dead Space at the root. I'm one of those who would prefer the limitation of action set pieces, but the sequence in the debris field as the ship Isaac is aboard is ripped apart by orbital mines is exhilarating.

In terms of narrative I thought it would be a bit of a patchwork job trying to get Isaac back fighting necros, but they've segued it in quite nicely with his motivation to find Ellie, who is being hunted by the Unitologists.

Graphics are superb, ambient sound is brilliant, and weapon crafting is a lot of fun - already impressed with the semi-military/ semi line gun set up I have so far.

Still early on in the game, but it's intriguing so far and I hope it continues in this vein.
