It will lose its scares with two main characters, human or AI, it makes it I to just an action game. That doesn't make it a bad game per se but personally I think it'll be too much of a departure from what made the original so good.

Or we could just wait and see how it's all implemented before making definitive statements like 'It will lose its scares with two main characters, human or AI, it makes it I to just an action game'?? C'mon, after two solid games we have to give them the benefit of the doubt here, if they screw it up and veer too far from the formula I love in the first two, I'll be the first to criticise, but to write this off before we've seen anything, let alone had a chance to play, is just crazy. I'm still confident DS3 can be a great horror game, with enough atmosphere and scares to keep it in line with the previous two.

EA takes the show floor with a full demonstration of Dead Space 3 on Monday, June 4th, at 1pm PST

Im very excited to see this. 9pm Monday? I'll remain optimistic as there was so much teeth gnashing pre-release over Deadspace 2 which is one of the greatest games Ive ever played.

Sure co-op is something very different to what we're used to in the series but nothing has been confirmed yet. It could be it has a solo and co-op mode or be a co-op game proper (AI or 2 player). The idea of playing together but going off to do different things to achieve a goal has some scary and interesting potential. Think Dallas going off in those vents with someone else guiding him. Trust me, playing L4D with Geest etc has taught me that action horror can still be scary and brilliant.

Resi 5 and FEAR3 are two good examples of how coop drains scares from a game. It's just not necessary.

Or rather, they're two examples where it failed and was implemented poorly? Just because other games have failed, doesn't mean this will. Why write it off as such before we even know how it's implemented or how it plays? As before, if it sucks and it drains the game of it's atmosphere, I'll be the first to criticise. However, after two great games, the Dead Space team have my attention and I'll trust them to make the best game they can. If they fuck it up, I'll walk the same way I did from the Resi franchise. I just don't see how anyone can write off a game before we've seen anything, let alone played it.

The point from my perspective is that I will not play co-op with another real life player at all, it's just not going to happen. None of my friends play, and I have no interested in playing with randoms on the internet. I want to mosey along through a game at my own pace and take my time. So, unless there's a single player option without an AI character (either acting like a twat or with decent AI, I don't care) then I've instantly lost interest, I don't do multi-player games, and RE5 only confirmed my disinterest, which was a pretty horrible, shallow experience.

Like I said, it doesn't make the game bad, it just saps scares which so far Coop has proven to do so it's a safe presumption to make that the game won't be as scary as the first two.

But yeah, if EA can somehow engineer it to be scary then props to them. I'

Likewise, I wont play alongside another human player, but it doesnt mean the story and game cant work with another character in tow. I thought Uncharted managed it pretty well. I prefer single player campaigns over multiplayer everyday, but I wont dismiss DS3 if they include a co-op option or a character that Isaac goes along with. I'll wait till more details/gameplay/demos/the game come out before passing judgement on its failure.

Ok, so did no one read the IGN wiki I linked? If you don't play co op there is no AI character with you, the story changes to suit a solo experience. Alone. No persona with you. I agree that if it goes just co op then there is no horror, and I will be pissed off but they seem to be offering a nice pair of options.

Hmmm, I was all up for the Dead Space 3 info, then I read it will be open world style? That mean a load of fucking retrieval side missions around an open world? In my view open world games never have as strong a story because you keep getting side tracked doing other shit. I'm not happy.

I'll still buy it and it looks good but that seemed too much like a Gears of War rip off to me...

One of the best decisions they made on Dead Space was having Ray K. Dick be a silent protagonist, enhacing the immersion and sense of isolation. Now these two will not shut up with the wisecracks and swearing.

Combat is definitely Gears of War-ised.

RIP Dead Space.

What is it with the infantile and frankly unnecessary swearing in that gameplay video. My fears are realised.

This is why you don't have triple-a survival horror games any more ... or just any triple a title doing anything dangerously different.

Publishers need hits year upon year. Not just hit's ... bigger hits every time. Big triple a door step slices of bread with premium Lurpack butter they only sell at Harrods.

So any franchise that's a big name will be tweaked and primed to suit an ever expanding audience. Which can be fine ... games are far from perfect in terms of user ability and accessibility, and I'm talking about dumbing down I'm talking about bringing new players in so they can be the next hardcore. Alas what it leads to is less and less risk taking and more and more copying from other successful games. Because they just want to give people what they want = what will sell loads. Which on it's own can be again a no brainier why wouldn't you take successful ideas but it can clearly go too far.

From the look's of this when compared to Dead Space it's aim is completely different. Which draws me to this line;

Sure this is set in the same world etc and hell I've not played it but as I said this doesn't look to be survival horror any more. Just as RE5 kicked the action up and took RE from Survival horror - Survival Horror & Action to ACTION plus survival horror. So in the end your not dealing with an IP like Dead Space anymore. Your dealing with a Gears of War / Survival Horror. Which I'm sure could still be fun ... but it isn't pure survival horror.

In short I'm hoping for more XBLA / indie / HD remakes (Fatal frame!) as triple A survival horror ain't happening.

After playing the demo of Dead Space 2, I borrowed the full game off a mate.

Terrified just about covers it. Just past the train section and now I'm in the Unitarian church. First part I've truly been stuck on; loving the game though.

However, I have just discovered that my mate has left the second disc out, and he's off on holiday for two weeks now. Bugger.

I have just started playing the first one and I am loving it, will complete shortly before playing the second.

Not sure about the direction of the third from what I have read, I hope it doesn't negate from the atmosphere of the first.

I actually enjoyed 3, I thought it was a solid, if linear shooter with some good scares in it.
