I shat too many times playing both. Im even considering running through them both again, something I wouldnt really consider doing with any other game I'd got 1000g on.

I went from chapter 2 to chapter 8 or 9 in about 6 hours, spent about 2 hours using the rocket/money glitch to build up a large amount of  for the nodes in the store, only to die just before a save point.

Reaction was  and the game went back to the rental site.

May attempt it sometime soon.......maybe.

Both games are utterly fabulous; I didn't think 2 would be as good a 1, but it was just about.

Restarted the game the other day on Zealot the other day just to remind myself what a ride it was; a move I may regret once ammo supplies and health start to run low. Not doing too badly too far with all my mods from my last game plus trusty super-powered plasma cutter, but I'm sure once it gets to chapter 8 or 9 I'll start to struggle keeping supplies in reserve, which won't help with jangled nerves either.

CONTAINS SPOLIERS

My 4 blog posts from TA on attempting to clear DS2 on Hard to the Core

1

"Can I do it and will my marriage survive? I figure it will take approx 2 hours to get to the start of level 5 (it did on Zealot but with max pimp upgrades from the game+).

OK so far I have died on the first level (getting stasis), the end of the first level against the brute in the hangar, the upside down/train/brute bit....then right at the end of level 3 which really pissed me off and lastly in a really pathetic bit of level 1...seriously. WTF!

Liz is out so here I go again. Taxi to level 5 please!

FUCK YEAH! Made it to level 5. Thought about making the short run to the next save point but sense took over. 5-9 Next?"

2

"Thank some god that 360 doesnt have blu ray!

Dead Space 2 is a 2 discer which means we get a checkpoint thrown in that PS3 owners dont and its much needed.

I saved at the start of Chapter 5 and looking back that was a bit conservative as most of C5 is pretty straightforward. Ive made the disc swap twice. The problem is life. A wife and three kids means sometimes I just have to turn the xbox off

I died on the big lift which gets attacked by the tripods. Foolish mistake so a quick change of plan saw me spinning in the middle and popping them off with the force gun. I also died twice at the end of chapter 7 with my back against the CEC door waiting for that bloody woman to open it. The furthest I have reached was into Chapter 8 with the rings of fire with the sprawling fanny thing at the end. In a moment of utter stupidity I ended up in the instant death flames.

Im tempted to save before you go through all the blades and that last bit I mentioned but know once through it I'll rue YES RUE my descision.

Its a tough slog but its making a scary brilliant game more scary.

(edit)"

Although you may spend the night dreaming about those difficult bits and achievements not unlocking."

3

"After a panic I ended up saving at the end of chapter 7 just before the CEC room. My problem is I panic too much when being swarmed and the CEC room is the worst swarm.

After that I went on a mighty run all the way to the spinning laser room at which point I somehow missed a stasis blast and got sliced into borstal kebab. This upset me. What upset me more was my next attempt. Launching the canisters to blow up the blockage when tripods are attacking. HOW DID I DIE THERE?!!!! Its so easy. I'd cleared the blockage and was running to the lift when the tripod hit me and I died. Joypad percentage to being hurled......96%

Thusly yesterday I did something crazy and ran from my first save (chapter 5) up to the very end of chapter 9. Just before the stupid tripod bit. Really the only bit that worries me is the decontamination room but my trusty fully upgraded and alt fire special contact beam will see me good. Plus that weapon can see the final boss off in 6 shots on Zealot.

Where to save 3?"

4

"So I saved at the start of chapter 13....before you say goodbye to Ellie....thats right, before the long cutscene that has a save right after it

I died a couple of times on the run up to the end boss by being overwhelmed. Then a couple of stupid eye poke machine failures. THEN a ridiculous death in the zero g bit (c14?) where I backed into the fire beams.

A BIG ARGUMENT WITH MRS B FOLLOWED AFTER SHE CAUGHT ME PLAYING IT AFTER SHE'D GONE TO SLEEP I too was meant to be asleep.

Then finally it came. I made sure that coming up to the eye poke machine that I had a LOT of double medpacks and triple stasis and ran and stasised as much as possible right up to meeting Tideman.

My heart was thumping as the final boss fight started up. I'd previously done a Zealot run a couple of days before which was quite easy but my Hardcore runs had proved a lot more troubling even though its only your ammo/credit pick ups that are changed by giving you less. Its the fear that plays a big part. The fear of going 'all the way back'.

On Zealot I nailed the bitch and marker heart in 6 shots with an upgraded contact beam. So I went to tackle it on HC. 4 shots later it ended. I'd done it.

After the credit fake ending I really shit myself as I'd forgotten that its possible to die flying back up to the gunship and almost hit some scenery but a quick pound on the A button and it was all done. The biggest challenge Ive ever taken on. I can grind. I can even take on some difficult games through sheer determination but nothing compared to this.

Thanks to Mr Griffin (Audenshaw Jedi) for his advice and words of support and thanks to everyones comments of congratulations.

I'll be posting my list of notes on the Hard to the Core achievement guide if anyone is crazy enough to attempt it. You'll probably do it quicker than I did. I go to pieces and panic when I get swarmed!"

So I started another playthrough of DS2 two nights ago, after not playing for about a year

I forgot how intense some of these scenes actually are. That tram ride at the end of chapter two, that chase through the corridor which ends with you and the creature chasing you getting blown out into space and onto the gunship that was shooting at you, and rocket propelling yourself through space to catch the next tram with Ellie

Its a fantastic game, but I still feel the first game was a more frightning experiance. There were a few moments in the first where I actually had to stop the game becasue it was so bad, but at the same time, the second is probably more 'fun'.

Roll on DS3

I am still trying to play through the first game...I am such a wimp these days its laughable. I play for 20 mins and end up going back to something 'safe' like BF3 or Skyrim

Something about this game that gets to me...

This is all your fault borstal.

Although DS2 was already half way dumb with the ramped up action and stupid decision to give H.G. Heinlein a voice.

What's the obsession with frickin' co-op? I want to be a Billy no-mates and sit on my own in a darkened room and have the willies put up me. Ahem.

Ah, the lesser spotted rikkie!

Quite agree. Resident Evil 5 shows how co-op can ruin a franchise.

I am known to exist in occasional forms!

Yeah, RE5 co-op was a total fucking ball-ache, I hated it with a passion. On your own the AI was shit, and on the odd occasion I played with someone online I was being shouted out for hanging about by some Rodney who was on their fifth run-through or something. And I never play games with people, so same room co-op's a non-starter. Mind you, it does sound like it'll be drop-in drop-out (ala Extraction), which hopefully means that the single-player campaign can be run through with no noticeable differences.

There's nothing wrong with coop, it can enhance many gaming experiences and add literally months to the shelf life of a game but there's one thing that developers seem to either forget or care about and that's that...

COOP STOPS GAMES FROM BEING SCARY!!!!1!

And by scary I mean creepy and chilling, L4D and a few other games can be scary but in an action context.

Agreed. Co-op has it's place in games like Gears Of War or Army of Two but not a franchise like Dead Space. Dead Space succeeded by creating the feeling of isolation - particularly in the first game when you were on your own in the dark, and weren't quite sure what you would encounter next. I remain hopeful, my expectations for Part 3 are now quite low

/\ Exactly. The creep factor is a big part of playing alone - with another person talking over the internet or simply being on the screen moving by you about it kills the tension instantly. Sorry, but it is true. Left 4 Dead is not a horror game, the thrills of taking on the zombie horde are exciting not scary.

Well I agree that co op is not for horror games, but I watched this http://youtu.be/-s7i3360WYE and forgave all I have read, as soon as something new Deadspace related is released I get very excited, and this character is being linked to join Mr I in DS3. I will be picking up this novel on release.

It's not problem solved becouse your companion is AI controlled if you don't have a human player. Its just so not Dead Space.

I'm fairly certain I read that It will be drop-in / drop-out co op and can be played solo if wanted. Once this isn't Army of Two high fiving eachother after every kill then fine by me, I can play through once alone andthen onec in co op. I just hope they don't bother with the multiplayer and just focus on plenty of story.

Here are the details, all is well: http://ie.ign.com/wikis/dead-space-3

It will lose its scares with two main characters, human or AI, it makes it I to just an action game. That doesn't make it a bad game per se but personally I think it'll be too much of a departure from what made the original so good.
