And if you aren't scared playing this you ain't playing it properly. In the dark, at midnight, on your own, with powerful surround sound. I was unbelievably edgy going through the freezer section in chapter 6 where nothing happens for about 3 sections then it's like they're coming out of the walls.

Only 6 chapters in and I think it's even better than the original. The orchestrated sequences so far have been fantastic - I would have thought that it would just interrupt the flow of the game but they're perfectly constructed and come about at the right time. Looking back on Dead Space there were times where a change up was required and Dead Space II does this superbly.

 Well i'm upto the start of Chapter 4 and there's been some impressive sequences but i just can't get past the feeling that it feels likes i'm playing Bioshock with Dead Space characters! I'm doing it on casual gamer (which i am one and enjoying the story aspect) but having gone through the first one on easy aswell, this sequel is ridiculously easy... Apart from those scary sounding babies!! It appears they really are trying to appeal to a wider market, yeah it has it's scary moments but nothing to match the intensity of the original. So far, a decent sequel but some flaws... still worth a purchase though.

I'm playing on normal and found the first disc a (very scary) breeze, but now I find myself dying quite often and ammo and health are pretty scarce.

I'm on chapter 10 at the moment. I'm going through it pretty slowly, but this is mainly due to the fact that I don't seem to have much time to play it as I will only play it in the dark with the volume turned up, so I have to wait till I have the flat to myself! Loving how funny the script can be too:

Ellie - They're swarming into the medical deck, thank god you don't have to go through there.
Onboard computer - Track obstruction, making emergency stop. Welcome to the medical deck.
Isaac - Crap!

 I am fucking loving this game.  Had a bit of a break in it as I've had a tonne of other things to do recently, but picked it back up last night and am in Chapter 9.  Have just got off the tram after meeting back up with Ellie and am having a fucking nightmare with those raptor bastards! As soon as I wander into an area with lots of crates or block structures and hear that chirping I am shatting myself.  I'm so low on ammo it's crazy so am having to be really on the ball with the limb/stasis skewer monouvre!

Great fucking game and I honestly don't see where people are coming from with the argument that there is less atmosphere or scares.  I'm on edge all the time...like a big fucking girl.

Tell me about it - I can only play for about 20-30 minutes at a time and then have to turn it off because my nerves are shot to shit.

 I finished this last night and loved every ruddy moment of it. There were a few niggles - the final two levels were a ball-ache, some of the new necromorphs were a pain in the ass (I'm looking at you, clever girl), and I too was seeing parallels with Bioshock, what with the design of The Sprawl and Bioshock's 'electric/shotgun' combat mechanic being replaced with stasis/plasma cutter on DS2.

These are minor quibbles though. The sound design was top notch, the graphics were beautiful and some parts were the most terrifying and exhilerating sequences I've ever played. I find that alot of sequels ultimately disappoint, but DS2 really pulled some awesome out of the bag.

To anyone who hasn't finished the game - make sure you sit through the (lengthy) credits sequence for the additional snippet at the very end.

Completed this at the weekend and have just finished off the Severed DLC also.

Overall it was great, a worth sucessor to the first and just as good for my money.

As for the DLC, not half bad really. For those interested my last save before completing it was at just over the hour mark, whether you think that's worth the 560 points or not is up to you. Worth playing if you're a Dead Space fan I'd say.

O am totally stuck on the lift level - unfortunately decided to go for zealot on my first play through, getting swarmed at the mo.

It is ok for the first couple of waves, have been laying mines etc but I just cant cope on the next few - it is a nightmare!

Tips?

 I finished this last night. Absolutely loved it. The way Resident Evil should be done, a terribly disturbing game and I was terrified throughout.

Favourite enemies are probably the lurkers, put the shits up me the first time I heard them in the church place, I just backed myself into a corner and didn't move for 5 minutes. Also the little baby crawlers, whoever came up with those is seriously disturbed.

I didn't mind the game opening up a bit towards the end, what it lost in creepiness in the later levels it made up for with sheer intensity with the amount of enemies coming at you.

Great game, probably pick up the DLC tonight.

I've read the DLC only lasts about an hour. For 560 MS points, hmmm, I shall have to see.

Made it to level 9 on my hardcore run then died, never really lost my rag whilst gaming but the t.v. was lucky not to have a joypad hanging out of it. To top it off in my pissed off frenzy i pressed b instead of a and lost my disc 2 checkpoint. Made it to level 7 then saved.
Gonna try making it to level 12 tonight then make my last save, wish me luck.
