I know he's only like 30, but i think Jared Padalecki could do it very well if they lost the floppy hair and roughed him up a bit. Check out him in Supernatural and you might get what i mean. he's huge prob the 6'5 mark, and has this rough gravelly voice. a bit of makeup and he could be 40. That or the guy from watchmen, the Comedian

Finally going to bring Reacher to the bing screen, just hope who ever is involved does the writing and feel of the books justice. As for who would play the man himself, i'd like to put Josh Holloway(Sawyer form Lost) forward as a very suitable choice, he'd nned a hair cut and to put on a few pounds, but i'm sure he could do a good job.

If we are talking really Tall, Blonde with Blue eyes then True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård should be a contender. The look would be right but as he hasn't been in much it is hard to tell his range as an actor.

I didn't see him in HBO's Generation Kill, but at he has experiance playing military.

I'm a massive fan of this series and I'm afraid that most of you are way off the mark...

Clint Eastwood??? Even as a young man he would never be right for Reacher. Yes, he's got the attitude but not the size. Jack Reacher's size is a major part of his character which must make it to the screen intact to be authentic. Very few of the actors mentioned have it.

Out of all the suggestions Jackman is probably the best but he still falls short. Just maybe if he's beefed up to the max.

Lawrence Dellagio actually has the right look but he's not an actor.

Daniel Craig could work if he were a lot taller. But at 5' 10 there's no way to pull it off.

The best approach of all is to use an unknown. All well-known actors are typecast and bring to much baggage to the part.

No matter what, it's a tough job to find the right actor for Reacher but I think the best shot is with an unknown. Failing that, I vote for Jackman.

Ray Stevenson from punisher 2 and Rome series. He's tall enough and right age. I think he would be a perfect Jack Reacher.

Hugh Jackman could play the role well but he is just too good looking, not nearly rough enough. Honestly I think we should all consider David Boreanaz. Sure he played a goody two shoes vamp in Buffy but he seriously kicked ass in "Bones". I can't think of a better actor to play the role and do it well. If David isn't picked it would have to be an unknown actor, but please no one form the world of wrestling or ultimate fighting. We want justice being done to the character of Reacher.

Nobody has mentioned Gerard Butler. He'd do the role justice. I'm just about to start reading 61 hours, I hope it is as good as the last few I've read. One Shot got me hooked on Reacher.

It needs to be an unknown actor who is between 6"4 and 6"6. I'm a professional actor and I'm an avid reader of the series. Originally I didn't want there to be any films made of the books because the way I build the scene and the characters in my head is perfect to me, and it will be completely different to everybody else's perception, but everybody will see it the way they want to see it using their own interpretation. A film would give us a definite article, and it wouldn't be perfect, as there is no room for interpretation and less chance to be surprised. I would love to see my favourite character on screen but the actor playing him would have to have been born and bred specifically for that role, reaching about 6"5, weighing about 220lbs and having the same somatotype. Don't get me wrong, I would be happy to be proved wrong by someone making a fantastic adaptation, but you can understand my scepticism when The Godfather film is brilliant, but the book is better, Congo, Pelican Brief (all completely different books, but all better than the films) same story, so when somebody like Reacher, who was basically created to be perfect at what he is and does, is supposed to be introduced by a film, the chances of it living up to the books maybe weigh in at 1%. For those of you who don't appreciate the books, why bother posting comments that just state that you don't like it? Give it a reason. I can appreciate people disagreeing, but at least do so with conviction.
I don't wish to sound cynical, I'm completely open to expanding Jack Reacher, but despite my great appreciation for Hugh Jackman and some others mentioned, there is just no way they would do it justice in my eyes because they simply don't fit the part. It must be about the character, not the actor playing him. However, when my girlfriend said "stop being so sour, a movie of one of those books could end up being amazing. If you could choose who played Reacher, who would it be?" I Said &

Who I picture when i read Reacher novels - 21/5/2011 10:38:44 PM

I dont know about anyone else, but when I read the Reacher novels, I always picture Ray Stevenson, (Rome, Book of Eli, Thor, etc). He's exactly the right height, tough as ol' boots, and is a very good actor. (Not to mention he's built like a brick sh.... out house). For me there's no one else it could be. Tom Hardy: too young, Hugh Jackman: too short, Gerard Butler: all of the above plus crap actor.
Whoever they choose, all i care is that they are capable of doing the character justice. Reacher is pure quality, a true hero to all, and deserves a decent incarnation. If its worth doing, its worth doing right.

JUST SAY NO!

http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/TomIsNotReacher
That is an online petition to at least try to dissuade Cruise from doing Reacher this terrible injustice. It doesn't matter who you think is right for the role I think every single Reacher fan agrees Cruise is just - he's just - ughhhhh AHUGH UGH BHGUDH..... Sorry about that - I've just vomited with impotant rage at the thought of it!

not tom cruize for f***s sake he's the exact opposite of Jack Reacher and if you think he will be good 'cause of mission impossible... the Jack Reacher series is nothing like Mission impossible! I don't think they could have chosen a worse choice to play him! which book are they making, anyway? if it's 61 hours maybe tom is playing the bad guy.
how is Jack Reacher a short twig with a black broom on his head, he's a 6'4" heap of muscle with a blonde crew cut, for goodness sake!
