Arguable the best director/actor combo in film history. What's their best and why?

Haven't seen Taxi Driver or Raging Bull recently enough to vote for them...so I had to go Goodfellas. It's almost too close to call though.

De Niro's best is Taxi Driver but their best movie together is Raging Bull. Stunning.

The King of Comedy is an under-rated classic and I'm glad someone's given it their vote as well.

Casino, Goodfellas, and Raging Bull are all in my top 100, but it has to be Taxi Driver as the pinnacle of their careers both individually and together. (I.e., not only the best Scorsese/De Niro partnership but also De Niro's best film and Scorsese's best film. Raging Bull is fairly close though in all respects.

What, no Shark Tale?

Coin toss between Raging Bull and Taxi Driver leaves me with the latter. Not bad.

not surprised to see that New York, New York and Cape Fear aren't getting any votes, but Cape Fear is a great film, particularly a return to form from De Niro.

That was I! Ahahaha.

And I've just finished watching Taxi Driver, the first time in a long time- mainly due to Homer's great essay. I forgot how good it is, how raw and visceral it is.

Pretty interesting question....i puzzled over it for quite a while, but finally plumped for Goodfellas, mainly because that's the one i've seen most recently and it's the one freshest in my tiny little mind!

I reckon i'm swaying towards this too. Swayed by- usually even if he's playing a proper psycho he's unbelievably cool- In King of Comedy you can't really say that

I voted for Goodfellas, Taxi Driver is a favourite of mine, but Goodfellas has the advantage of a fantastic ensemble cast....when I first saw it Joe Pesci's character almost made me piss my pants with laughter....

....classic

Taxi Driver, not even a close contest. But I love all of these movies. I'd put Raging Bull second, and Casino a close third.

King of Comedy features an excellent performance from De Niro bu I don't think Scorsese was especially stretching himself with that film. He mainly did it as a favour for De Niro anyway.

Taxi Driver gets my vote. Followed by Raging Bull then either Mean Streets or Goodfellas. Probably Goodfellas.

Very hard to call. My all-time favourite diretor and all-time favourite actor. I think they go in this order personally:

1. Taxi Driver
2. Raging Bull
3. Goodfellas
4. Mean Streets
5. Casino
6. King of Comedy
7. Cape Fear

I think that all of these films are fantastic, particularly Taxi Driver, which is the best film ever made IMO.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here seen New York, New York? I know it didn't do well on its release, but I thought generally (and also from reading Empire's review) its had something of a revision in recent years and is now considered one of Scorsese's most underrated films.

The first three are absolute masterpieces and King Of Comedy is verging on that status.

Goodfellas is his best film but as far as a collaboration is concerned i'd go Taxi Driver or Raging Bull.

Has to be goodfellas. Just watch the scene where henry and karen are going into the restaurant through a side door and the camera follows them the whole way. GENIUS

Taxi Driver is my favourite film ever so i voted for that but the King of Comedy came a close second because De Niro gives his best ever performance.

I've only seen two of them, Raging Bull and Goodfellas, and I'd place Goodfellas over Raging Bull. Raging Bull was ever so slightly disappointing given the massive hype surrounding it. In my unpopular opinion, the B&W in that film makes it look really drab and unappealing.

Goodfellas
Raging Bull
