ORIGINAL: bobsuncorp Cannot disagree more with the reviewer, his main problem seems to be the assertion that Neeson's character is American. If he wanted to do an American accent he would have done, so I took that to mean that although he had emigrated to the US and spent most of his life working for them, he was Irish. That turns the story into about a Father who uses his badass skills to save his daughter. Also any movie that mentions the very real risk of abduction for human trafficking cannot be ridiculed for saying that it happens in Paris, because it happens everywhere. And it is also true that the victims usually end up in middle eastern countries if only because it is easier for them to "disappear" that way. This movie was far superior to Commando in so many ways, but just one that I admired was the way they had Neeson realistically doing stuff a guy his age (peak fitness of course) could do. The way he fought was not showy (any more than it has to be to be visible in a movie) but reserved and showed experience by always being one step ahead. Finally at no point did he shoot or harm any innocent bystander, unless you count the serving staff at the flesh auction (I wouldn't call them innocent). The black guy who attacked him at the taxi rank was one of the spotters, the girl who got shot at the first place he went to was shot by one of the bad guys. The worst he did was steal someone's car from outside their home. Ha ha, what about the French policeman's wife, he shot her in the arm!!! That was viscious (but badass)
