I love how Steven Soderbergh has managed to direct films before his directing debut.

Good list so far, though some choices are too low and some, even despite being between 500-400, are too high. Some nice gems too, it was nice to be reminded of High Fidelity. None of my 20 choices has popped up yet, but I have no fear they won't.

Btw, will the magazine-version of this be found in the regular magazine or in a seperate one? If the latter is the case, will it be sold outside Britain?

Oh dear, here we go again a list that means nothing really does it. Superbad? Superman returns? Brick? and several others and
we're only in the first 100. I'm sure there are more classic choices to come

I would have thought the Fountain would be in the top 200 at least. Amazing film.

Ooh, so many movies! I'm glad that American Pschyo and Indy 4 is there, I voted for them! There were also other movies that I couldn't fit on the top ten that I like, hope for more of my chart and many other wonderful films will be there tomorrow! Bring it on Empire!

Quite good so far, i still strongly think that sweeney todd should be a lot higher, at least in the 300-1. Still not sure though why the phantom menace is in here, i don't mind it but better than the other movies before it? hmmmmmmmm

It's a rediculously bad list. I mean 'Star Wars I: Phantome Menace' above 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' ??????

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas directed by Nanni Moretti? I must have missed that one at the cinema...

I love that I'm shouting out at my computer screen with shock and anger. Star Wars Episode 1 with a very respectable place? Pah!

Still, it's all good fun.

I think there have been quite a lot of good choices so far but some of the films I would rate much higher like
28 Days Later and Full Metal Jacket for example.

Ok, ok, so far so good. Certain newer films are in simply by virtue of being "new" , iron man, indy 4 i'm looking at you. But i'm very happy to see the Tom and Jerry concert cartoon in there although i'm frankly baffled by which readers thought to enter it in their top ten (some fixing by Empire? surely not!)

But Robocop?! 404?! Thats a disgrace, it was my top ten! I wait with baited breath for the next installment :)

How is 'Do The Right Thing' NOT in the top 100? Oh well, good to see 'Dead Man's Shoe's' in there, probably one of my all-time favorite movies from the U.K.

The Phantom Menace and Crystal Skull being on this list is just stupid.
And Deer Hunter, 12 Monkeys, Robocop and Lethal Weapon are all top 100 movies.
Otherwise, pretty good list.
Looking forward to the next part...

ok i had a little look, Indy IV, Harry Potter AND Dead Man's Chest are in it.

and then Dead Man's Shoes, Twelve Monkeys are above 450?

I never was going to be completely happy with this, but they are 2 of my favourite films...

Well its an ok list so far. I was expecting the likes of Spider-Man 2, Lethal Weapon and a few others to be further up the list. But hey it is a Top 500 list and not 100. So I will save faith for the next installment. So far none of my top ten films have featured so plenty of time to shout if I feel they are not where they should be. Oh no shit, wait, I lied one of my top ten is in the list! Spider-Man 2...you would think they would have put it higher being the best one out of all 3.

I was gonna complain about certain films placing...but I watched Danger: Diabolik last night for the first time and I'm delighted to see its awesomeness acknowledged.

Hairspray and Dumb and Dumber above The Phantom Menace, Deer Hunter and such like is pretty silly.
And why is "Bad Taste" even on the list? If Jackson hadn't made the LOTR Trilogy then it wouldn't have even been shortlisted.

wonderboys should have been much much higher, i still think that if more people had actually watched it then it would get the praise and recognition it rightly deserves

I can't believe that The Jungle Book isn't in the top 20 at least!

Also, can anyone shed any light on the fact that some of the numbers are red and others green?

I was disappointed to see that Scream, Halloween and Dawn of the Dead came so early in the list but there's still Exorcist hopefully to come.

by far the most ridiculous placing on the list has to be indiana jones kingdom of the crystal skull. the film was a money grabbing attempt to jump on the band wagon of sequels without any real thought. there was no reaon it could not have been amazing with all the cast on board, i felt cheated i not sure people who voted for this actually saw it cos it was poo

I think being in the 500-400 section of the list is more  a disrespect or reprimandation than anything else. They should've saved their time and just made the list the top 20 Lucas/Spielberg films with Dark Knight getting special mention as the greatest film ever made.

Shocking to compare this list to past lists when it comes to how some pretty good seminal films have somehow dropped popularity. That or Empire's readers somehow have less taste than they had before. After all, there are only "16 people still alive who've actually seen Citizen Kane all the way through" , aparently.....

I'm guessing my vote for Jaws the Revenge and American Graffiti 2 won't make an appearance

Can be bothered going through all that.  Where did Frank Borzage's Seventh Heaven place?

Deer Hunter is so far down it makes me want to cry!

Oh well... can't wait for the final 20!

I hope the next issue of Empire magazine will be dedicated to this list.
