Tesco is selling The Dark Knight trilogy on blu-ray for 25 at the moment. It's the cheapest I've found so far.

From the 12thh January until early Feb (the 2nd I think) HMV will be having a Blue Cross sale. Items excluded are Chart items, campaign items or items that have an offer on them (such as 5 for 30 blu rays). All other Blu Rays, DVDs and CDs will have 25% off them. So basically all base priced back catalogue.

Assuming they will stop their "buy one boxset get one half price" deal then? Otherwise that would count as "offer items", no?

Buy one get one half price ended on Saturday just gone. The Blue Cross sale Soft Launches on Friday, gives us a day to fix any bugs before the official launch of the campaign on Saturday.

Obviously, a shop full of stock with X's on them is bound to raise some questions from customers, my favourite of which so far has been "so all the stock labelled with an X, are they like... X rated films?"

I saw the staff putting these Xs on the stock earlier this week. It sounds like a good offer but call me an old cynic... will HMV be giving a 25% discount on the stocks price just prior to the start of the promotion or will they be doing their usual trick and hiking all the promotional stock upto the RRP (or over in most cases!) and discounting 25% from that price???

On a different note, for this week only (w/c 7th Jan) Amazon UK are selling OZ (Seasons 1-6) Emerald City Collection for 26. I've never seen it but have heard good things, so just bought it at that price when everywhere else seems to be charging in the region of 100 for it!

I can only speak for what we have done in our store, but we have been told that this is a stock clearing exercise, some of the back catalogue we have in store has been there for some time with no chance of a return on it, so to sell it any price would be a bonus. The only repricing that has been done is on anything that was still stickered up as chart stock that almost certainly isn't any more in order to get it into the Blue Cross sale rather than being excluded. As for a promotion after the event? I don't know, but considering just how much stock is going into this offer (the majority of items on the shelf) It would be some feat to get it all into a campaign afterward.

Like I say, I don't speak for the company, but that is my understanding of it at a store level. The downside is that during this time there will probably be very little in terms of back catalogue restocking as stores will be judged on their stock levels at the start and the end of the campaign, chart and sale stuff should still flow through, but back catalogue will basically be on hold for the rest of the month until the offer is over, unless it's a huge success and we run out of stock that is.

I went into HMV and there were lots of blu X's, what does it mean, are they for the X rated movies? Seriously some people are sooooooo dumb!

Is the HMV sale in store only or does it extend to the website?

At the moment there doesn't seem to be any difference to the website prices but the sale doesn't officially start till tomorrow so I'm not sure what the situation is. I'm assuming it's in store only.

I think there are some tweaks with prices in that online blue x thing. I checked the price of the HMV Breaking Bad S1-3 plus S4 vs the Amazon S1-4 set a few days ago and there was only a couple of s difference. Now the S1-3 set alone is 5 more.

Just come home with the following from HMV's Blue X Sale:

Toyko Story - 7.50
Kung Fu Panda 2 - 9.00
Warrior - 7.50
Toyko Grandfathers - 3
Evangelion 1.11 - 3.75
Evangelion 2.22 - 6.00
Afro Samurai : The Complete Murder Sessions - 9
Cowboy Bebop - 3.75

Gotta say, the in store selection is miles better than online.

Sad to say my cynicism appeared correct re: HMV Blue X sale. Some prices have been seriously hiked up beyond their RRP, e.g. I noticed Halloween 1-5 has suddenly shot up by 5 and Ill Manors DVD (18!!!)... even with a 25% discount; currently the Ill Manors DVD and BR are both 5 at ASDA! Some other titles i've just skim checked are also just cheaper on Amazon UK, without any discount!

Wish I could say I was surprised by HMV, but I'm not... Oh and started OZ boxset and it's very good, but god knows how Season 1 got a 15 cert!?!?

Just a heads up for those interested in the Blockbuster situation, my local store is closing (presumably as a result of the last week) and they're selling off their Blu-Ray stock at 50% off.

I just picked up the likes of True Grit, The Grey, Collateral, etc, all for 3.50 each.

Best check what your local store is up to.
