ORIGINAL: moontheloon From the 12thh January until early Feb (the 2nd I think) HMV will be having a Blue Cross sale. Items excluded are Chart items, campaign items or items that have an offer on them (such as 5 for £30 blu rays). All other Blu Rays, DVDs and CDs will have 25% off them. So basically all base priced back catalogue. I saw the staff putting these Xs on the stock earlier this week. It sounds like a good offer but call me an old cynic... will HMV be giving a 25% discount on the stocks price just prior to the start of the promotion or will they be doing their usual trick and hiking all the promotional stock upto the RRP (or over in most cases!) and discounting 25% from that price??? On a different note, for this week only (w/c 7th Jan) Amazon UK are selling OZ (Seasons 1-6) Emerald City Collection for £26. I've never seen it but have heard good things, so just bought it at that price when everywhere else seems to be charging in the region of £100 for it! I can only speak for what we have done in our store, but we have been told that this is a stock clearing exercise, some of the back catalogue we have in store has been there for some time with no chance of a return on it, so to sell it any price would be a bonus. The only repricing that has been done is on anything that was still stickered up as chart stock that almost certainly isn't any more in order to get it into the Blue Cross sale rather than being excluded. As for a promotion after the event? I don't know, but considering just how much stock is going into this offer (the majority of items on the shelf) It would be some feat to get it all into a campaign afterward. Like I say, I don't speak for the company, but that is my understanding of it at a store level. The downside is that during this time there will probably be very little in terms of back catalogue restocking as stores will be judged on their stock levels at the start and the end of the campaign, chart and sale stuff should still flow through, but back catalogue will basically be on hold for the rest of the month until the offer is over, unless it's a huge success and we run out of stock that is.
