He's baaaaaack.

At least according to these folks
http://marketsaw.blogspot.com/2007/11/hot-hobbit-news-jackson-will-helm.html
So we can all breathe a sigh of relief and get on with waiting for Batman.
Unless you were really wanting Sam Raimi to do it. Happy now?

Woooooo!

Sorry guys.

I got all excited, and everything. I guess it doesn't really fit with things, does it.

I don't think it will take until 2009 to finish The Lovely Bones, though. It should be quite a straight forward film to make. Tintin could be a problem, though.

Which would you prefer, Tintin or the Hobbit?

Because that's what Tolkein did.

If you go back you can make a number of movies based on previous books like The Hobbit or (further back still) the Simillarion. You can also, as seems to be partly the case here, base a film on the appendices.

I wonder if Aragorn will make an appearance in these 2 films?. It may be set 70 years back, but he had a lifespan far longer than a normal human.

i would prefer if he just made the hobbit and if they wanted another film do elements of the silmarillion.the whole morgoth saga and the rise of sauron ,the distruction of numenor and angbad.a film for fils sake just to have aragorn seems a bit cheesy,i'm sure it will be excellent though.

NO NO NO NO NO! I DO HOPE THIS IS JUST GOSSIP. sam rami to direct.i can't think of anyone worse.after the dismal, overated spiderman movies.not one of his movies has ever wowed me.not one.about 5 mins of spidey2 was alright.i'm gutted.the hobbit is my all time fave book.i first read it over twenty years ago,so this news is dissapointing to say the least.

I dont blame Peter Jackson for not wanting to direct it i mean if he didi it all by him self like the lord of the rings it would be amazing but would take years to do. Lord of the Rings are some the best films ever but for a director you cant just pigeon hole yourself in lord of the rings world you need to try other films.

i understand that.but i'm sure i read that he wanted to make the hobbit?bit of a bombshell to then turn it down.of course it could still have the same feel, after all the empire strikes back had a different director and that turned out great.its just i can think of better choices to take this film forward.paul greengrass?chris nolan?riddley scott?...i hope he changes his mind.

frodo has some titbits regarding the hobbit movie(s)

http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=7201&count=0

i'm not too sure about the second film.not much happens if i remember.a prequel would be more welcome.a full film dealing with sourons rise ending with the battle we see at the start of the fellowship.

isnt saurons rise and stuff in the silmarillion? i read that once after LOTR and he was barely mentioned at all. not sure wha they would pick from that book, theres millions of

stories they could choose. i look foward a lot to the hobbit, i think it deserves a re-read aswell sometime soon!

yup it is ( unfinished  tales is also worth a look*),along with the fall of numenor and the demise of morgoth at the battle of angbad....its far richer than the gap between the hobbit and rings.infact the sillmarillion was his lifes work that was never finished..(according to his son)

* as is the tolkien beastry

Is Sam Raimi directing this? Because according to IMDB's FAQs he is:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/faq#.2.1.1

I aint heard anything about this though.

aww shit.at least it's not rami.what bothers me is that del toro said  himself he could not read lord of the rings?but managed the hobbit?big fan, doubt it.so much will go over his head, all the little english traits of the hobbits will i fear come across as twee.i could be wrong.it should be jackson and i would quite happily wait a few extra years for his version.
