The comments section of that page is full of very confused people… and after 5 minutes of reading, I'm now one of them ! Seems like they may have given audiences too much choice… only to not clarify exactly what choices are actually available where you live.

Yeah, its worse for the people who are actively trying to avoid the 48fps screenings, now not knowing which format their local cinema will be using.

7 viewing options in total apparently! It's a brave new world indeed… albeit a bloody mind boggling one .

Hopefully the major chains will have the information they need on the different versions within the next few weeks, so they can pass it on to customers.

This is the issue I raised with the BFI as they started selling advanced tickets ages ago, without clarifying exactly what people were actually buying tickets for. Still haven't.

Oh well. I got mine so will just have to see what hand I'm dealt on December 14th…

Loved hearing the music - pre-ordered the soundtrack already.

Here's a nice little thing, found over at TORn, taken from NZ Herald:~

Dwarves (plus one Hobbit) before and after make-up.

EDIT:~ Just changing the title back.

I don't see why Kili doesn't have a beard when Aidan Turner is clearly capable of growing one, I don't care how young he's supposed to be he clearly should have a beard.

Great link otherwise

Odeon have entries on their films page for the HFR (48fps) screenings: only 15 cinemas for HFR 3D and only 2 for IMAX HFR 3D.

Not the BFI Imax and none of the main West End cinemas - I was betting on the "flagship" Leicester Square being one

I guess I'll just have to watch it twice then ... Kensington here I come!

HFR 3D:
Blackpool
Bournemouth
Brighton
Chelmsford
Dundee
Dunfermline
Glasgow Quay
Hatfield
Kensington
Kingston
Lincoln
Norwich
Trafford Centre
Tunbridge Wells
Wrexham Eagles Meadow

IMAX HFR 3D:
Manchester (Printworks)
Trafford Centre

Shame that Leicester didn't get it, but who cares I'm gonna see it in three weeks. And I got ridiculously excited to see the first TV spot today on the tele.

Must say I agree, Musht. That is some facial fuzz right there, most men would kill to grow a beard like that too

Whoa!

Was not expecting him until film 2 though?

Was that also a shot of the Battle of the Five Armies in there too…

The somewhat surprising indifference I felt about The Hobbit earlier in the year has been completely replaces with utter excitement!

Now if the BFI IMAX would just show the bloody thing at 48fps all would be right in the world!

Edit -  Actually, thinking about it that might be from a prologue or a flashback when they tell the history of Smaug and the Lonely Mountain. Wonder if it will only be brief glimpses of him in film 1. Great TV spot though!

I think you're right, Pete, with it possibly being the prologue. And my excitement levels have gone sky-high too

There's plenty more tv spots out there, but they've been recorded off teles. Why don't WB release them in HD already?!

We've also got our tickets for the 14th. I may also go on the 13th - my husband couldn't get time off then though but now tempted to go myself anyway.

Little concerned after booking tickets at Cheltenham Cineworld that they wouldn't be showing it in 48fps after seeing some of the posts on here, so I emailed Cineworld. Just received this email back from them.

"Thank-you for contacting Cineworld.

The Hobbit will be shown in 48 frames per second in all our cinemas.

With Kind Regards,"

So I'm chuffed

I'm presuming then that this includes both 2D and 3D showings

I honestly have no idea when I'll be seeing this so I'm not going to pre-book but out of curiosity I checked times for my local Cineworld and they were only offering the 3D option. I really hope this isn't the case.

So IMAX are showing a 15/70 film print and are apparently the only cinema in london to do so. I'm glad tbh, while I am curious about 48fps after all the horror stories I heard from the middle of this summer and watching an upscaled tv show a month back, I didn't want my first viewing of The Hobbit (the prequel to one of my favourite films of all time) to be affected by a process so new and foreign. I'll see it the first time on classic film at the imax and take in the story and everything, then i'll go see it a second time in 48fps as an experimental viewing, where if I hate it, it wouldnt have ruined the film for me.

At the moment at least, I think I'm going to go all in and watch it first time in 48fps 3D.

Some chuffer from The New York Daily News has written a mini review, saying in it that Radagast "descends into Jar Jar Binks territory"

Not sure that this can be possible, can it?

I wouldn't worry about that, this comparison has since been removed from the review.

He already turned Gimli into Jar Jar in TTT and ROTK so it's hardly impossible or implausible.

Personally I'm dreading the possibility of twelve Gimlis and their oh so hilarious antics for two and a half hours.

It's mostly the same that I can see in Glasgow, unless that's just all they're offering on pre-sale. I've booked mine.
