So which 3D cover did everyone get? I got the Gollum one, must say I was hoping for the Thorin one though.

I've never bought any magazine with multiple covers more than once but I'm very tempted to get all 5 of these. I'll certainly get Gandalf and Galadriel though.

I got all the LOTR ones (in fact I think I brought every single magazine that featured the films, including foreign ones) so will be getting a few of these

Saw the full blown tailer before Skyfall last night on a mahoosive screen and I nearly cried!!

It was only FOTR that had multiple covers for Empire, wasn't it? At the time they came out LOTR was little more than a "that looks alright" film, Had I known how much I'd like it I would have got them both

Went round about 8 shops today and could I find the one cover, Galadriel, that I really wanted? Got the other 4 but I'm determined to find the last one.

I saw Skyfall on Friday (this was on the big "xtreme" screen at Vue Stratford City), and yes they played the trailer - and it looks brilliant up there on the screen. (The other trailers were Les Miserable, Jack Reacher and Django Unchained)

Odeon Leicester Square now has bookings open for the first week of showings (including Thursday 13th previews). Normally I try to avoid OLS because of the prices, but for this... hell yeah! I'll be the smug git on the front row of the Royal Circle at 8pm on the 13th

Hopefully the Hobbit has the same event-vibe that the LOTR trilogy had.
When I first saw The Fellowship Of The Ring I saw loads of families,couples and the film really captured peoples love for the cinema again.

I feel the LOTR trilogy was massively important to Cinemas and film at the time.

Glad that pre-booking is open

It would be really useful if they could announce which UK cinemas were showing The Hobbit in 48fps about now.

I'm guessing that London gets first dibs.

Don�t think it will be quite on that level but hopefully people will be gettign in the spirit

. TLotR was always regarded as pretty much the most unfilmable thing ever committed to the page. So the fever seemed to reflect the sheer shock that not only had someone done it� but done an absolutely masterful job of it to boot.

Still think there will be a great vibe in the theatre (14th Dec BFI IMAX for me!

) but I�m not personally expecting quite that level of hysteria.

Think most people�s excitement peaked with TDKR this year� but I hope this is a lot better, as I personally didn�t care for that film myself.

regarding BFI IMAX i think they said they're trying to decide on if they can do 48fps and 24fps showings. Annoyingly they didnt decide before letting tickets go on sale, so people dont know what they'll be getting before they order tickets.

If my showing ends up being 48fps, can I demand a refund because I don't want to see it in 48fps and I wasn't informed of it before buying tickets?

I booked for the IMAX but I�m anticipating a standard screening. Given some of the extremely negative feedback to 48fps footage screened they will be running a bit risk if they do not clearly advertise those screenings. If people walk in expecting a standard screening and then mirror these negative reactions, WB could see an awful lot of walk outs and refunds. They need to be careful how they handle these screenings.

I was pretty sure that in terms of its IMAX release there were 4 options:

24fps IMAX
24fps IMAX 3D (which I believe I have booked)
48 fps IMAX
48 fps IMAX 3D

When I booked for the BFI IMAX, there was no option for your preference at all. Just IMAX 3D.

They recently had a massive refurb in the BFI IMAX, with a brand new screen etc. I just assumed this was in readiness to project The Hobbit at 48fps. But perhaps not if they are still looking into it.

Just take a look on the BFI IMAX FB wall. This 48fps confusion has created a lot of posts� including mine

BFI responded to me on FB and they can�t confirm their chosen frame rate yet.

Wonder what the hold up in them making a decision is? Surely, if it�s simply a technical issue they should be able to determine fairly easily if they can do it? Perhaps alternating between 24 and 48fps is a little tricky with only one screen and they are worried about potential complaints if they opt for 48fps screenings only.

I�m torn a little on this whole issue now, as if all the naysayers are right and it just serves to make the film look cheap, I have no interest in HFR. But if those saying your eyes simply need time to adjust (i.e. don�t write it off from 10 minutes of footage) are right and it turns out to be amazing, I�d like to see it like that for my first viewing� on the largest screen in the UK!

Was anyone else aware that Cumberbatch had 2 roles in the Hobbit? Thought the Guardian was guilty of some sloppy journalism just now, when they listed him as the Necromancer� turns out he is playing him and well as voicing Smaug. News to me!

But Cumberbatch voicing Smaug is only listed for the 2nd film, with only the Necromancer listed for film 3. I just assumed as Smaug is such a big deal that he would have had his big reveal in the last film. But perhaps his death attacking Lake Town is where film 2 will end, with the last film concentrating on the battle of the 5 armies and Sauron�s power starting to grow in readiness for TLotR.

But double Cumberbatch� nice

. I suppose it�s to enforce the supposed link between Smaug and Sauron. Think I�ve heard people say before that this is hinted at in the appendices or somewhere. Anyone able to comment on that?

I quite liked that. It isn't quite as epic as the orchestral version from the trailer - which I trust will be expanded in the score itself - but it's pretty good. Certainly better than any of the credit songs used in LOTR

May It Be was the only LOTR song that I loved from the first time I heard it. The other two took a while to grow on me (I adore them both now, and Into The West is particularly takes me back to the film and gets me all weepy), and I think this one will have to do the same.

I know. I haven't even seen any LOTR in over two years now

Then again, nothing can compare to my love of LOTR. I think the fact it's become such a big thing for me I was always going to be a tad cautious when it came to The Hobbit. What I hope will happen will be the same as last time. I was excited for FOTR but the film so exceeded my expectations, my anticipation for the sequels was immense. I've never looked forward to anything as much as ROTK, December 2003 could not arrive quick enough. I think I'm perhaps lowering my expectations for the first Hobbit film a bit in the hope of getting that same feeling.

Man, no BFI IMAX! They've been getting so many posts requesting conformation on their FB page and have just been faffing about it. They sell themselves as pretty much the most cutting edge cinema experience in the UK� poor show if they're not even offering HFR screenings.

The comments section of that page is full of very confused people� and after 5 minutes of reading, I'm now one of them

! Seems like they may have given audiences too much choice� only to not clarify exactly what choices are actually available where you live.

Yeah, its worse for the people who are actively trying to avoid the 48fps screenings, now not knowing which format their local cinema will be using.

Hopefully the major chains will have the information they need on the different versions within the next few weeks, so they can pass it on to customers.
