What's with all the boulders tumbling down mountainsides, some expanded action in the Misty Mountains? Come on Empire, time for one of your in-depth frame by frame analyses!

SPOILERS If my memory of the book is correct that is!

The company is attacked while crossing the mountains by huge creatures throwing boulders at them, can't remember exactly what these creatures were though. If memory serves, it is this attack that forces them to take shelter in a cave which leads them to the goblins and eventually, Riddles in the Dark.

It looks pretty good imo, looking forward to it as it will be great seeing Middle Earth brought to life once more. I just dunno how they are going to stretch the story over three films, that could be a bit much.

Bit too much emphasis on the sword maybe?

This is very OT but I just need to use this smiley regarding that link

I might get some of the figures. I only have one from LOTR. It's of Gandalf and he booms out "You shall not pass". It's deafening

I will be getting an Elrond figure for 3 reasons that are pretty much all the same...

01. Elrond is awesome.
02. Hugo Weaving is awesome.
02. A long time ago an ex bought me an Agent Smith action figure because Hugo Weaving is awesome and he and Elrond can fight crime together.

I really want to like this project, really. But the fact that the producers and director want to make it a trilogy makes me wanna puke. The same greedy steamroller mentality that is apparent with the current trend of splitting up the last book in a trilogy for the movie treatment. Only The Hobbit here tops that too, one (short) book into a trilogy? Give me a fucking break.

The thing that reassures me about the decision is that it was made once filming had finished, so clearly Jackson and co think they have enough for three films... or two really long ones.

If it had been made beforehand, I would be more cynical than I am now.

I'm definitely on the cynic wagon on this, I thought it should only have been one flick to begin with (knew that was never gonna happen). Two flicks I was a little ambivalent about, since I disrespected the greed involved, but I was still hooked because of the obviously huge talent of Jackson and his team. But three? Too much man, my fear is we're gonna get three 100 minute flicks, diluted and bland.

Yeah they could have got a bit closer to the style of the other film posters like the other one, but at this stage I dont think they need much more marketing

Not that I'm complaining, but given that there'll be two films following 'An Unexpected Journey', what could possibly be left out that isn't stuff made up by Jackson & Co, or nicked from the LOTR appendices?

Don't worry, this is a decision made for purely artistic reasons and is not at all being influenced by money.

Yeah, not understanding the extended editions for saying that was the supposed reason for the third film.

So what does everyone think of the recent news that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be 2 hours and 40 minutes long? Personally i'm quite surprised at how long it is, I expected the films to be this length when there were two films sure. But now they're three films and the first parts almost 2 and three quarter hours? There must be a lot of added stuff in to justify that length.

Also tickets have just gone on sale for IMAX. Just bought mine, although annoyingly it doesn't list if the film will be shown in 24 fps or 48fps?
