The downfall from LotR has been immense.

Gadzooks! Give him a bloody chance, itís not even out for 4 months.

TLotR had weak comedy in there too to try and lighten the mood from time to time. In the context of a 2hr + film you may find it less grating than in 2 minutes of condensed footage.

if you combine the trailer shown and the little snippets from the blogs you've seen about 2% of the movie so far and already you're saying it's inferior to LOTR? What a fucking moron.

From what I can remember, Bifur, Bombur and Bofur were three of the dwarves who were complete fuck ups throughout the story among others, whereas all the others kept ranting about mithril or some greedy dwarve stuff. Only Thorin springs to mind as being the serious one. They look like they hit the personalities on the head.

Serious Question: Is anyone actually happy with the dwarves? Casting, songs or the way they look?

At the moment, I'm happy with everything I've seen except the unecessary decision to turn it into three films. Was excited that they'd be exploring more of what Gandalf did, and thought the reasoning behind making it in two parts was sound, but I just don't think there's enough material set during the events of that story to warrant stretching it out into three.

But from the footage I've seen, the promotional shots, etc. It certainly looks great.

I find it a little odd the some fit the archetypal dwarf look, much like Gimli and some just look like normal men, only smaller. It is a little distracting when they are all supposed to be the same race. Other than that though, it looks to be shaping up great and hopefully that little niggle wonít be too bad at all within the context and character development of the film.

A tiny little bit (with a tiny spoiler) with Benedict Cumberbatch. He talks of when we might see Smaug:~

Some of the wigs are pretty bad. The ones that don't seem to have any prosthetics look pretty bad too. Happy with quite a few of them though.

Incredibly predictable. Wonder how much will have since been transplanted to the third part though...

The third film released in July 2014? Well I'm not too distressed, but I would have preferred Film1: Dec 2012, Film2: July 2013, Film3: Dec 2013.

EDIT: Many of you have probably seen these already, but here's a link to TORn's picture gallery. There's some from the calendar that I've not seen yet:~

A lot of nice details there.... but Bilbo is not the correct height in any of the pics, which is very weird

I'm wondering on that too, Rich. Hobbits are meant to be about 3 1/2 ft, whereas dwarves are 4 ft. I know that Martin Freeman is 5"7 and Richard Armitage is 6"2 so that'll work in their scenes, but the other actors are smaller. Maybe some computer wizardry to rectify this perhaps?

Also some new pictures from TORn:~

It's got to be in Peter we trust...! I'm am slightly worried that they will put too much comedy into the film, the stills of the dwarves make them look like comedy sidekicks! I can not wait to see the movie, but I have a bad feeling that we are going to be in Episode 1-3 territory rather that Episode 4-6... Fingers crossed i am completely wrong!

Only had an audio free office viewing so far but it looks great!

Now that the (rather underwhelming) summer is gone, this is rapidly scrabbling back up the most anticipated list! Once Looper and The Master are done, it will be number one again for me.

Let's not get too happy everyone, we've got to wait for Vad3r to come in and say how it looks horrible because it's not dark and it's got too much Dwarf comedy...

Looks okay but I'm not sure about the over saturated look everything has. Digital filming maybe? Still, most of the expected scenes were there. Not exactly sure what the final bit is all about though.

Yeah the mountain giants are a great visual. The new guy was Radagast the wizard (Sylvester McCoy) I believe. Cut from LOTR, stuck here - who knows.
