I think it's gonna have to be a 'wait and see'. All else fails, if it does not work at 48 fps we can always opt for a cinema which is showing it at the 24fps instead.

When this footage was released there was a bit on radio 1 as i was driving home and they were talking usual rubbish about how the new 48fps would be a new revolution over 3D. I wasnt too fussed about it to be honest and im still looking forward to the hobbit- my eyes never really fully adjusted to Beowulf 3D but i still loved that...

What worried me more is this differentiation now between 48fps and "normal" films and the suggestion that chains may charge higher prices over standard films.... and that really irritated me a lot. Im going to see avengers on monday and told my friend i had no preference of 2D/3D (he is seeing it second time around and says 3D is awesome) but the fact those cost more AND Vue cinema now have "VIP" seats which you have to pay more too makes me pretty sad.... I feel priced out of the cinemas and thats before you add in popcorn or a drink. Sad times.

But I saw the Avengers Assemble in 3D and whilst it worked very well in some places, others it didn't and brought you out of the film.

But I agree that cinemas will most likely hike the ticket prices again - tis an expensive past-time now.

It seems that all the criticism has been aimed towards the 48fps but not a single mention of the context of the scenes themselves. As for whether it really does look "70's TV" or not I'll keep an open mind until I see it myself and not forgetting the 48fps will only be available in specific screens (probably IMAX). It'll be down-converted to 24fps on 2D screens and when it reaches blu-ray.

EDIT: The footage was only ten minutes long and ungraded so I think the criticism is a tad premature.

Pretty much exactly this: most of the reviews I've read don't give a proper impression of what the content of the scenes were like. Instead everyone seems to have criticised the medium in which they were delivered. It'd have been interesting to read people's reactions had Jackson decided to show a 24fps version on its own. Personally, I've got every faith in his ability to deliver a fantastic film and I'm sure I'll enjoy The Hobbit, even if it does look like an episode of 70s Dr. Who.

The "TV" effect they are describing sounds like what happened when film makers started using digital cameras - it looked really cheap distracting, like Collateral or Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

Im surprised Empire hasnt made a news story about this. Concerning the film I have faith once its been released in cinemas they will polish and tweak around if it really is that noticable Would be intriguing to know what they saw, I think people are simply looking for faults

Watched the EE Blu Rays of LOTR over the weekend and it's really upped my appetite for some more Middle Earth action.

Awesome films, that they are. I'm thinking it's gonna be a bit like Star Wars where digitally remastered and possible improvement of some CGI DVDs will be released.

Here's a very small interview with Benedict Cumberbatch about Sherlock, Star Trek and The Hobbit (also the otter/Sherlock picture meme )

Gandalfs beard looks very impressive in IMAX 3D . I felt like it was flowing over my face, it was glorious. The 3D trailer had so much depth in the picture, it looked incredible.

What 3D trailer, is there a new one out?

It was the trailer we already have but in 3D...it's probably old news to everyone else but I felt I had to comment on Gandalfs beard.

Today was a good day to take a day off work me thinks

Although I must admit that it was mainly to miss all the Torch relay shenanigans.

A possibilty that the UK will screen the Hobbit two weeks after everyone else, so rather than 14th December, now it might be Boxing day:~

Damn it!

Ooh I like the poster - very Hobbity country side, with the dark clouds overhead

Yeah, I hope that it's false too. It first came from IMDb, which are known for their incorrect information, but it seems to have stemmed from that future films website. We'd have to be internet-free for 2 weeks, Spalds! I've got to do that for TDKR for a week later on this month!! How will I cope?!

The UK release date change really seems nonsensical. Do they not recall how well the three LOTR movies did with Mid-December releases? There's zero competition on the 14th, so what does this gain the distributors?
