Oh FFS.

Anti-football + megarich owner + bottle = win on pens.

Horrendous night for football.

Chelsea did all they could. Should've been buried. The only praiseworthy things about them are workrate and bottle.

Bayern threw it away.

Gads min.

That'll be Man City next year too.

Man City play waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the cowardly garbage served up by Chelsea tonight.

Worked though.

What has Arsenal pretty passing got us in the last few years. Fuck all.

They may not play the most 'prettiest' of football, but throughout the competition they showed guts and determination. Starting off with that Napoli game when all looked lost and even tonight, when everyone was righting them off.

sometimes its nice to see the underdogs winning!

Petr Cech is only 29 years old. I would have put money on him being well into his 30's.

Chelsea weren't cowardly. They knew their limitations, covered their weaknesses as best they could, gave themselves the best chance they could to win.

If Bayern had the nerve to take more than one of the 40-odd chances uber-defensive Chelsea still managed to afford them then they'd have been deserved winners.

You need bottle. Not enough Bayern players showed they had it.

It's like Red Star and Steaua and PSV all over again. Except Chelsea don't have the excuse of being massively outspent by their opponents.

That Chelsea had to resort to such anti-football given the wedge of Abramovich's money that's been spent is frankly hilarious.

That it was enough for them to win the "Not Really Champions League" is bad for football.

I'm not really annoyed at this result at all tbh, but the notion that a team of international players funded by millions of pounds in investment by some rich Russian guy is a victory for England is hilarious. As is the continuing persecution complex some people have about Michel Platini. But whatever, INGERLAND INGERLAND etc

Congrats Chelsea fans. I can appreciate such masterful trolling when it happens to teams I don't like (Bayern, Spurs), so nice one.

It's when a team you don't like win a trophy you didn't want them to win by not allowing the opposing team to score more goals than them.

Was AVB that bad?

As a Liverpool fan, I need to ask that question, because if rumours are true..then he is coming to Anfield.....and Chelsea of the last few weeks have been different to the team under his leadership!

This "anti football" bs is just pure football snobbery.
Who are we to say that every team should play in the similiar fasion?

On another note I thought Lampard,Cahil and especially Cole had good games today.

No but his tactics for Chelsea were poor and the speed that he tried to assert himself/his way of doing things was too quick in my view and yes the Chelsea egos probably didnt help. I think he will be a successful manger wherever he goes next.

For the best examples see Smith, Walter and Brown, Craig. Honourable mention to the man who ruined Euro 2004 with Greece.

It involves an aversion to permitting the defensive line to venture much further from goal than the 18 yard line. It involves a preference for at least 10 men behind the ball. It involves the near abandonment of attacking intent. It involves limiting the number of attacking players on the pitch to the lowest number possible. It involves playing defensive players in attacking positions - if having a player in an attacking position is unavoidable. It involves moving as slowly as possible when the ball is out of play.

There are nuances and personal touches - Jose Mourinho is keen on kicking the crap out of opposition players, for example.

Mate, people have a persecution complex against him because his a twat, him and that fat slug. They've never hidden their disdain for English football or the Premier League in particular.

As for the 'Ingerland' stuff, clearly your not English thats why do not get the same satisfaction I did seeing an English team lift the trophy. Who cares if they play 'anti-football', you can't expect everyone to play like Barca? Every team has their own style. And City might play better or 'prettier' football than Chelsea, but not too long ago they were fucking abysmal and boring as shit.

Cole was exceptional, as was Petr Cech - him and Drogba kept Chelsea in the game.

I do feel gutted for Bayern however, its going to take them a long time to recover from that one. They reached the final in 2010 too and lost. Not to mention that final loss against United in '99 (still the greatest moment of my football supporting life! )

So a lot of final defeat heartbreaks to contend with not to mention losing at their own home - an opportunity like that comes once in a lifetime.

He really doesn't though. The main things Platini has done as head of UEFA are based on curbing big spending, reducing the impact of big foreign investors (looking at Abramovich lift the trophy tonight, he may not have succeeded there yet) and encouraging more homegrown young talent in European clubs. Anyone who genuinely cares about football's development can't object to these ideas, and Platini should be admired for his desire to do these things without worrying about offending big teams. The fantasy that people hold onto about Platini hating England is based on nothing except the fact that these things affect English football - half of the teams in the league this season were foreign owned (if you count Stan Kroenke being the major shareholder in Arsenal), the two biggest trophies of the season have just been won by two English teams funded by billionaire owners, etc. Platini is doing what needs to be done, and the English media have made an issue out of it because they're threatened by it.

Also, as much as I hate to say it as an Arsenal fan because he's a hateful human being, Ashley Cole was god-tier tonight. Brilliant performance.
