Wanna know what kills more police than bullets and liquor? Boredom. They just can't handle that shit. You keep it boring, String. You keep it dead fucking boring.

RIP.

Sad news, a great character.

Ironic that I was going to hunt out this thread this monring. I've had the boxset for close on 3 years now, and only started watching it - from Season 1 - about 2 months ago. We finished Season 3 last night.
Me and the missus have had conflicting views on this though. Her problem is she can't stand ANY of the characters. The police are all corrupt and nasty, the bad guys are, well, bad guys.
Favourite characters though, considering I have only just finished Season 3 are:- (spoilers for S1-3)

1) Omar. Just so fucking cool, he has the best lines, the best snarls, a bad guy you can root for.
2) Stringer Bell. I guess a bit of bias towards the Brit (not to mention him being Luthor ) but he was plain nasty, ruthless and probably got his commeuppance in the end. I was gutted though when Omar and that silly bow-tied fucker shot him
3) Bubs. Just brilliant. After the Orca I think my must have tv/film prop would be his shopping trolley
4) Bunk. Makes me laugh when he gets pissed and staggers around by the trainline.
5) Carver. Perhaps the only copper with even a smidgeon of morals. His work in Hamsterdam in Series 3 probably just slightly shaded he was dodgy and corrupt in the first 2 series.

Calvin was a good cop. Hamsterdam was never going to work, but his heart and morals were in the right place.

I need to break out the Wire again soon, it's been a few years since I watched it now. Top 5 characters for me (although this changes fairly often):

1. Omar
2. Lester (so fucking cool)
3. Bunk (hilarious)
4. Bubbles
5. McNulty

I don't know if you could call Omar a villain, I look at him more of a Punisher/Robin Hood type character (mind you I haven't seen series 5 yet.).

Also another sad story to see on the link to news of Chew's death there is a "where are they now "gallery link, Felicia Pearson, famously plucked off the streets to play Snoop, was convicted in 2011 of selling heroin. Given a chance and blew it.
