 I wouldn't say really good, but better than Back to Earth. And more like classic Dwarf than series 7 or 8.

I watched Back To Earth on Dave when that was shown but that was when I actually had Freeview. I'll probably just get the dvd, I own all the rest anyway

I loved Rimmer's response to him not passing his exam. wasn't very often you heard actual swearing on Dwarf but the rant ending in "sack of shit" made me laugh out loud as did "You were an utter twat!"

The first five minutes were a little ropey but once it kicked in, it was much, much better than Back To Earth. The cat had nearly all the funny lines, good setups with jokes that paid off later. Welcome back boys

There is no 9. 9 was mentioned in Back To Earth. The creator said it will make sense later on, I hope so.

That was an illusion though, it didn't actually happen.

Ah, OK. Thanks.

Wiki has been changed now, it reads:

He also stated that he would not want to make a series nine but that he might make a series ten, and explained that Back to Earth is to be considered as series nine. The specials establish that two series focusing on the events leading up to Back to Earth occurred after series eight; during the fictional ninth series.

It used to say ...and that will make a lot more sense in the future (instead of the part in bold.)

It's only been changed in the last month or so. So, I guess he did. It's a shame as I would have liked to have seen nine set after ten, it would have been strange and interesting. Or at least seen the pay off as to why there was no nine but now there is so - meh.

Still X is promising.

Sorry but let's go all Partridge and call a spade a spade. Rob Grant was the funny one; Doug Naylor was mr sci fi. Naylor has had since the ate nineties to assume control and make a funny one but has failed each episode. I approached this one. with the same sense of resignation. I was unsurprised.

I thought it was great - Naylor clearly played on a lot of the running gags that went throughout the original series and there were some moments where I genuinely laughed like I did from series 3-6. There were some fantastic one liners and set ups - Rimmer getting Kryten, Cat and Lister to pose as his elite crew to make his brother jealous was so true to the character developed over all of the Red Dwarf series and the line about hosing Kryten down and giving him a hat had me Rofl'ing pretty damn hard.

Overall a really promising return to the small rouge one.

He actually says 'sack of sick'. I think 'shit' has only been said once in Red Dwarf and by Cat ('does mouse shit roll?')

I thought it was alright, made me chuckle a couple of times. Certainly funnier than Back To Earth which barely made me smile. I liked Kryten's reaction after erasing his own memory and the fact that Cat got two rounds of applause in the same scene

 Dave on Demand launched last night, specifically for this. As far as I know, they won't be there indefinitely, so you'll have to watch them within a week. It seems everyone liked it then? I'm not sure I'm allowed to say this, but I've seen up to ep 4 and I've laughed at a lot of it! And the first episode wasn't the best one for me.

You're right, my mistake. Thought it was a bit out of the ordinary

 It was ok,certainly stronger than its recent predecessors.
I still think they should give-up the ghost though,especially as an older episode appeared after the modern episode seemed far more funny and ,more importantly,original.But maybe its wrong of me to compare it to its classics.

Skiba, if you work for Dave do you know if it's them that decide what the Sky Plus Link does? Because it's not linking to the next in S10 but the next Red Dwarf epi. Thanks to which cock-up last night I only have half of Hunted recorded as my husband didn't notice the clash, that shouldn't have been there anyway. when he turned over.

 Just finished watching it, and like most was pleasantly surprised. I stopped with Red Dwarf around series 7 or 8 (I forget) as it really dropped in quality, but in recent weeks I've been watching various episodes from series 2 - 6 and this new series certainly felt a lot like those better episodes and this genuinely made me laugh and chuckle along on more than one occasion. As mentioned before, the characters felt true to what they were in the old days, which was something I didnt expect. The best moments generally belonged to Cat and Rimmer, but overall, it was pretty damn good, good enough for me to tune back in next week.

Best moments for me?

The Swedish Lateral Thinking - "Was he Swedish?",.... "Yes."......, "It was a moose!".
"Washed him down and gave him a hat"
Kryten's memory wipe
Cat wandering past the Simulant.
