Genius.

To be honest, in the right mood, its so much more fun than any of the other Batman films.

That is true.

No it isn't.

EDIT: Would now be a good time to mention that I have both Adam West and Burt Ward's autographs hanging on my wall?

The thing is when judgeing these you must keep things in prespective.  For example as much of a mess as Batman Forever is there's noway it's as a poor as 3/10 suggusts,  for thats just a overeaction.  It  would've been a 5/10 if not for Carry.  And Manchurian I wasn't even talking to you, so i don't know why your getting so hot under the collar.  doncopey1 sounds like a man who knows what he's talking about it's just a bit of fun anyway.  I think we're all agreed B&R is the worse, one of the worse films ever for me.

No, that's just your opinion. I found Batman Forever very boring, and it would have been a total-wash out if not for some relatively good sequences, which are few and far between. Carrey is shit, but he's not the worst part of the film. The script is probably the biggest problem with the film, but the direction is below-par too. Therefore I gave it 3/10 (and I was debating whether not to give it a 2, but decided that was a bit too harsh). It's just a bad film, and I'm not going to rate it higher just because Batman and Robin is worse.

That sounds a tad close to claiming there is a definitive viewpoint. I think most of us are perfectly capable of scoring films 'in perspective' - thing is, the perspective is ours. Not yours

I saw Batman Forever on TV recently.  I think Jim Carrey was good in the role for that film.  It just so happens it was, on this most recent viewing, a terrible film.

Carrey was just playing at the original Riddler I think. It wasn't his finest hour though, I think its fair to say.

To be fair when I was growing up I quite liked Frank Gorshin's Riddler.  Unfortunately I think in this case Carrey was playing himself as the Riddler and mistook menace for gurning.  A truly dreadful performance in a costume that I'm sure no-one ever wants to see him wear again (you could almost tell his religion ).

Well I'll get to Carry in a minute.  As for the rating it sounds like we have different views of what the scoreing means.  To me an avenge bad film, not good, but not terrible is a 5/10 and anything under that is a stinker.  Anything under 3/10 should be reserved for the worse films of all time.  The thing about Carry is he's playing a maninac so the silly rubber face goon he normally plays in comdies works within the context of the comic book world and his character.  Plus he does get some wonderful one liners which he delivers with glee, this along with as you said decent setplays for me makes it a 6/10.  But anyway unwards.

Its a below average film though.  And if the Riddler had suddenly started saving animals or pointing his finger and carrying out acts only a deity could manage no one would have been surprised, its the same performance.  I truly think Jerry Seinfeld is more menacing than the Riddler here.

Iím not a massive fan of Burtonís work in general so I take each of his Batman films with a little less enthusiasm than I probably should, which is a shame because I really like Keaton as both Wayne and Batman. As for Batman (1989) Iíve never fully enjoyed this film thanks to Jack Nicholson who I cannot stand post 1980 and I find it exceptionally difficult to get through his turn as the Joker which is up there with his awful performance in The Departed.

That's exactly how I would have rated it, and the comment is also apt. I recenty watched Forever (and was initially looking forward to it) after a disabled friend really wanted to view it. As a '12 year old' I thoroughly enjoyed it, probably the favourite in the series, not being a Burton fan in any possible way. But the re-wath highlighted so SO many things, things which JBG has already illustrated.

At least you can look at Batman and Robin and generally laugh at its imediate shitness 'Ice to see you', 'You're not sending me to the cooler' (NoNoNO!........But Yes!) because we all know that Arnie is really crap anyway. But crap in a nice way

Holy rusted metal Batman
WHAT?!

Okay, for me...

1. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm - a beautiful story, told with the quality of a 1940s Hollywood romance, I still regard it as the greatest rendition of Batman ever.

2. Batman Begins - I'd place it ahead of The Dark Knight, purely because it was the first blockbuster  released in my lifetime that really proposed some serious 'ideas' - films like Spiderman just left me really empty.

3. The Dark Knight - Well, a very close third - I mean this was the perfect Batman film made without the burden of origins, and boy, did the shit really did hit the fan.

4. Batman - Dated as hell, largely due to Prince, but nevertheless important and iconic.

5. Batman Returns - For me, Michelle Pfieffer has given the best female perfomance in any Batman film - and I'd put this here purely for that. I wish if they run with a third Nolan movie, they introduce an alluring femme fatale - the only criticism I have with Begins and TDK is that the female characters were so underwritten.

the only funny bit that carrey did in as the riddler was at the very end when he's locked up in arkham and claiming that he knows who batman is, chase asks who is batman and riddler appears from the darkness of his cell with an unfassened straight jacket on, flapping his arms saying "i'm batman!". I purposefully watched it again to check and that is really the only bit i found funny!

I really like them both so choosing which went first was kind of splitting hairs. I'm quite proud I kept to 1 decimal place though.

Excuse me but "Coffee Will Kill you"! after hitting the guy with the coffee jug and
"Your Entrance was good, his was better" are both in their own way funny.

Don't get me wrong I don't really like Batman Forever, but it isn't without total merit.
