Yeah, it could be rather good. As bad as it is, I still haven't completely seen the Robocop sequels. Aronofsky could really do a good job of this. It's the casting I'm more worried about...Weller's too old, so who?

Could be great, but it could also be crap if like the last Robocop film they skimp on the budget. Peter Weller is A) too old to play the part and B) not a bankable name, so I would think they'll be getting someone else in to play the title role.

this has to be some sick joke, what is the great director from pi, the fountain and requim doing with a crap movie like this. This guy can get much better movies. He shouldn't soil his great list of movies with crap like this.

Nicholas Cage probably. He seems to be 'default actor' for remakes nowadays...

I know he is in everything at the moment but I think maybe Bale for Robocop ... soley for the chin?! Or maybe Nathan Fillion or Bruce Campball (because they should be everything!!)

Good, a continuation of the franchise I don't mind, but I would much rather see Verhoeven handle the direction again, not sure Aronofsky is the right man for the job.
Still, I'm very pleased it's not a remake.

Nic Cage as Murphy........I just sicked up in my mouth a little.

Not sure about Aronofsky, he's unproven as an action director. Although so was Chris Nolan and looked how that's turned out!

Is this a joke because im not laughing I love the first film but haven't seen the seaquels or tv series etc and dont really want to but when i heard they were doing a new film i was shocked because how can do a sequel to that great film let alone now it'll be 3. Now with Darren Aronofsky in charge im not gonna even bother with it i have the best one and not even a script by the great david self can save this film

they're gonna need to change Robcop alot, you can't have him moving in slow-mo in this remake

Yeah, I need Nicolas Cage cast as RoboCop like I need a fucking blowtorch to the face, I can't see it happening though, so not too worried.

I think this is a top idea! It's always great to see serious talent melded to sci-fi/ comic book/ fantasy films as we've seen with the likes of LOTR and Batman Returns to name a couple. Bring it on I say

Holly wood have a day off please!! Go on a much needed vacation and come up with NEW ideas!!
Please stop making bad remakes!!!

Leave Roobocop alone! The original stands alone for one of the great 80's action movies that just can't be remade!!

Please leave it in the 80's!!! And our childhoods!! Didn't you see Robocop 2/3 and the shit series!!!!

What has this director ever done to make him a suitable talent for a movie like this? Expect an over-budget, endlessly-delayed obscurantist and boring mess…

Is the warehouse empty?
Has the barrel been scraped bare, washed out and licked clean?
Are there no ideas left and no original films to make in Hollywood?
Is 2008 the year that cinemas became big tv's, filled with reruns piled on more reruns?
Thats enough questions.
Dont make Robocop, do something new.

YES. This is very good news. Aronofsky is such an unorthodox choice, SUCH an unorthodox choice, that this could be something very special. It's clear that Aronofsky is intelligent, if a little self-indulgent, and the series needs that. Ultimately, Robocop is a potent satire, and an intellectual, arty take might do wonders.

Aronofsky is brilliant! He can weave inter laying story lines and emotion into his films, just look at The Fountain, which is quite frankly an amazing sci-fi(ish) film.

...and step away from it. Making another Robocop movie is like remaking The Day theEarth Stood still - ludicrous and pointless and weakens the original movie.

Oh, hang on.

Can Aronofsky do for Robocop what Nolan did for Batman? The original Robo is one of my favourite ever films - loved how humour & satire could be combined with such a powerfully dark and violent story. Unfortunately, my memories of it are badly tarnished by some rubbish sequels. Sound familiar?

...seriously? Isn't this a bit low-brow? Or does he need a good movie that pulls in a big audience?

I smell an anti-terrorist, security vibe coming but Aronofsky missed out on rebooting Batman so he could be an interesting choice.

Here's to hoping this turns out to be an arty existential examination of how the organic and artificial can co exist within the same entity.

Sorry but this film doesn't need to be done, IMO. I mean whats next Michael Gondry helming a Predator remake? Spike Jonze directing a Terminator sequel?
(Not that I've got anything against them!)

Its just not needed for fecks sake!

There's absolutely no reason at all to bring back Robocop in this era. It was cool for the eighties, but really, don't bother us with a resurrected cop in any form in this age. Really. Stop it. Now. Not in a few years. Now.

best suggestion ever...it should be made law that it has to happen.

as for this news...meh. could be good, could be absolute shite... keep it cgi lite, cast a proper actor and dont make it an origin story or too obvious and broad a satire, and its got a chance.
