Pretty much bang on the money! Kudos to Snyder, from what we've seen this looks great. Obviously it's just the earliest of teasers, but he's captured the look and - hopefully - the atmosphere. Now it all needs to hang together convincingly!

I think I can safely say that Zack Snyder is gonna be my new favourite modern film-director!
This film looks utterly astounding!

Goddamn it, why can't Snyder just run a camera at 24 frames per second?

OK, yes, it looks flipping lovely and like the graphic novel (comic my arse, Empire), but my fear with Snyder taking the reigns is it would end up looking nice but being vacuous, like the fairly meh 300. There isn't the vaguest hint of actual performance here, just the look.

I hope to all hell he gets it right, this is Watchmen he's doing after all, but I ain't soiling myself just yet.

Gotta say that i tend to agree with wozza on this one. I mean this is a classic and should never have been made at all - but if it is too be made, it should be about the characters and their complexities and you get the feeling that has been bumped for style - which is really wrong.

I hope i'm wrong and that it's the best film ever, i really do...

Don'tscrewitupdon'tscrewitupdon'tscrewitupdon'tscrewitupdon'tscrewitup. Hate the fact they've completely changed the way Ozymandias looks... there was just no call for it. I think its a real shame they messed with Nite Owl's paunch and Silk Spectre's rubbish outfit too; both had a lovely humanising touch on the whole piece. Still looking forward to seeing what they do with it though... back to the mantra - ohPLEASEdon'tscrewitup...!

Of course there wont be a hint of characterisation in a teaser trailer. Teaser trailer's jobs are to showcase action. The same is said for the Batman teasers, the Spider-Man teasers.

Looks good. Ozymandias' suit would have looked incredibly cheesy on film.

Well done to Snyder for appeasing the Comic fans, you really don't want to cross them, but what the trailer lacked which I hope will be addressed is what's in it for the people who haven't read the graphic novel, many aspects of the trailer only made sense when I looked at those comparrisions, by itself I didn't feel drawn into being interested in what this movie was all about.

For christs sake it's a 2 minute trailer just to let you all know what it looks like. Thats the job of a teaser. The next trailers will start to give some meaning to the film. If the reast of it looks as good as this trailer then we should be in for a treat. Im sure Mr Snyder knows exactly what he's doing. He clearly loves the material he's working from and obviously want's to make a good movie form it.

I'm actually creaming myself seeing this! Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach and The Comedian all look bloody brilliant! On first glance it seems to be as faithful as any graphic novel-to-movie could be. I can even cope with the 2nd Silk Spectre's changes, as they fit the look. I'm not convinced by Ozymandias, but I'll hold fire and wait for further information on that one - it could still work...

I know some people are not sure if the superb look will be matched with great storytelling, but if the music is anything to go by, I'd say he'll nail it. (Don't forget, it is a teaser after all...)

Over all, outstanding stuff! Haven't been this excited over a movie for years!!!!

The were right to change the costumes. The costumes in the graphic novel look ridiculous. I mean what's intimidating about an owl - unless you're a field mouse? The new version in the movie is a big improvement, and so is the PVC number worn by that sexy little minx. As I remember, in the graphic novel she wore a mini skirt and high heels. That's no way to go out fighting crime unless you want twisted ankles and a draft up your arse.

It's tough to judge a movie on the trailer as I've been proven manhy times, especially by the awlful Jumper. The trailer made it seem to be the coolest movie of this year but after seeing the actual movie I now know to be the drab, one -trick dead, rotting pony it actually is.
But going by Zack's faithfullness of it's subject, like he did with the Dawn of the Dead remake and the awesome 300 and what I've seen of Watchmen's production so far this will be BRILLIANT.

Looks like it's wrong to voice a heedful opinion on a comic book adaption.
My point on the teaser stands as it didn't draw me in as a non-Watchman fan, so what if it's just a teaser, that's no excuse to be vague and Elitist. Where's the hook for the outsider? CGI blue man? camp costumes?

The teaser is to secure the base. They don't care about the rest yet.

My only quibble with the comparisons is on the Nite Owl ship's emergence from the water.
Empire put the insert from the book on the lower left corner of the image, blocking out the harbor buoy which is a key feature in both images.
Granted, the frame they used has a bit better illumination on the ship, but I think they should've put the insert on the right side.
The harbor buoy sells that shot for me.

I say this without a hint of sarcasm. This movie is going to be shit. Silk Spectre would NOT dress up in PVC to save her life. She never wanted to be a crime fighter. Nite Owl is NOT Batman. He's over the hill, overweight and a complete geek. He certainly never jumps in the air as the trailer suggests. Dr. Otterman gaining his powers was NOT a liberating experience as the trailer seems to show. It was sheer agony and very gruesome. None of the Watchmen are what you'd call heroes. They're all flawed in their own ways, some more than most. +SPOILER WARNING+ The Comedian is far from funny. He is a cold blooded killer with tendencies towards rape. This film is obviously going to be a 12A á la Hellboy and as such will be tame and non-committal. I doubt they'll go for the graphic novel ending which is far from happy and which had no final battle or great conflict as the film will probably have, just a harsh outcome that may be the best, and worst thing to happen to the human race. This film looks about as close to Watchmen as Batman & Robin was to Batman: Year One. Nuff said.

It seems like you're pulling a lot of these criticisms out of thin air.  Silk Spectre's costume is faithful enough to the original just re-imagined into a sleeker version which looks amazing on actress Carla Gugino.  I also don't know what trailer you're watching, but when Dr. OSTERMAN is transformed into Dr. Manhattan, he looks like he's in quite a bit of pain (just look at the guys face).  They also don't seem very heroic in the trailer.  For Christ's sake, The Comedian was burning a Vietnamese man alive as Dr. Manhattan completely vaporized another.  It's also going to be the first superhero film (I think the fourth graphic novel film, give or take) to be rated R because Zack Snyder stated at Comic-Con this past week that the film will NOT SHY AWAY from the more graphic scenes of the book.  What reason do they have to not include the ending!?

The best part for me was when they included Rorschach's quote regarding saving the people of the world.  The characters aren't being re-imagined into fluffy neon-colored superheroes: they're staying as gritty and as real as they were in the novel.

Maybe because some of the scenes are slow motion in the comic as well (like Ozymandias beating up the guy in the fountain)...

I thought they were still frames.

Almost finished the Graphic Novel I prefered Night Owls entrance to the prison in the trailer rather than just strolling down the prison corridor, I know they were trying to be anti-action in parts of the novel, but It works better cinematically.

Strange how Cassius2004 seems to hold the Novel in such restrictive grip towards adaptation to the screen, creative choices can often work in the favour of the audience, Wolverine would look like a tool in his original costume for example.

I agree that Snyder isn't only free to take certain liberties with the license, but a lot of the things showed off in the trailer make the film seem much more screen-friendly like the revamped outfits and Dr. Manhattan's glass castle.

I also read somewhere that the actor playing Nite Owl commented on the fact that he modified his diet to gain weight to resemble the fatter Nite Owl we remember from the novel.  So who knows, maybe the more fit version we see in the trailer is supposed to be a flashback.

It does seem that on a lot of forums a good number of fans are upset that the trailer isn't faithful to the graphic novel, but I think the trailer is nothing but fan service.  The casual movie-goer will see this and be perplexed but the established fanbase will recognize immedeately all the scenes taken directly from the graphic novel.  I know it got me excited.

I read a pretty interesting interview with Moore on EW a couple of weeks ago (here). He's got a graphic novel out in April next year and he's working on a novel. The interview covers a lot. He loves The Wire too!
