On the evidence of Arthur - the only film I've seen him in - I'd have to agree that he's utter shite.
Got to say that my respect for Helen Mirren slipped a couple of notches after seeing her in it. What was she thinking of? She surely doesn't need the money.

Well, I quite like the guy. Actually, he's one of the funniest people around today. Don't know why I like him, though. He just happens to be very funny.

Russell Bland a good actor? You ARE having a laugh right? Bland is just that, a Bland little shite. The most despicable human being ever to have lived!

Only seen clips of him in films, but I concur that he just seems to be himself. Now I don't find his stand-up routines funny, but when interviewed I find him hilarious and entertaining.

And I kinda 'dig' his look too

He's not an actor, really, as much as he went to drama school, he is a comic. There is nothing wrong with that, plenty of comedians have forged a career in the movies using a set persona - Woody Allen, Eddie Murphy etc, but the main problem is that the cinema hasn't figured out the best way to utilize him yet. I liked Arthur though.

I think they found the best way to utilise him in Forgetting Sarah Marshall- doing a bit of a parody of the type of person he used to be. Get Him To The Greek was a bit shoddy, but FSM was a lot of fun and I enjoyed Brand's performance.

I would very much like to lick Marmite off his now ex-wife's legs.

Just putting that out there...

Hmm. Yes, I am inclined to agree with you here Cat. There are also various other body parts that I'd be interested in licking.

God I still loathe this man, amazed he's being pushed as an A-lister.

He might be an A-list celebrity (more for shagging Katy Perry) but that's as far as he'll ever go.

BTW, I am jealous.

I think you can call him a man, yes. He definitely looks like a man, sounds like a man and he has some very male qualities.

I mean, what else can you call him? An elephant? Because you would be wrong to call him that. Yes, he is irrefutably (sp?) a man.

Given some of the women he has knocked boots with (Katy Perry not the least of them) I would argue that he isn't just a man, he is possibly the man.

Hopefully he goes off the rails now, after his split with Miss Perry and he gets back to his old antics rather than this reformed Hollywood Brand... I would very much like to see him on the front of some magazine in some sort of crazy pose with the heading... Russell Brand is back :D

They're both talented. You just find one of them annoying. Annoying and Talented aren't opposites

I find Russell Brand to be very funny. I couldn't stand him when he presented Big Brother's Big Mouth or whatever it was, but I really like his stand up. He's actually very smart and a lot of his material is very witty. Whether he can make it as a serious actor, I don't know. He does seem to be suited to the one kind of character, but that's true of a lot of actors, and doesn't necessarily mean they're bad, just that they're limited.

But I don't find Brand to be talented. He just a has that kooky personality that appeals to some people.

Dunno if he's a good actor or not, refuse to watch the annoying dickhead in anything.

Comedians and comic actors can make good serious actors however; I'm thinking of Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Charles Chaplin, Jim Carrey, Billy Connelly, Robbie Coltrane, Hugh Laurie, Rik Mayall, Catherine Tate, Stephen Fry and Eddie Izzard to name but a few.

Personally I prefer Ian Hislop's verdict of his book: "335 dismal, masturbatory pagey-wages"

Well, it's clearly implied in his statement that he thought Bland was only annoying. No need for more verbage.

I have seen him in Forgetting Sarah Marshal, it was more a case of forgetting Russell Bland.

It was very awkward seeing him in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It was the only movie with him that I saw, and I can't help but feel that he was... well, very awkward. I guess everyone agrees, although I cannot pinpoint a specific reason, but his acting was awkward.
