I love Russell, but I cant help but feel that he just plays himself.
I think he should stick with comedy

Thats all hes asked to do though really isnt it? I would have a problem if he was in a serious drama and was behaving in his usual manner but in the likes of Forgetting Sarah Marshall the character hes playing really only reguires him to act in his usual persona.

One of the most irritating people alive today...can't even answer a question without going into a rant about some random pish.....oh and he sucks as an actor...which should really not be used to describe him.

Agreed. In the last year he's gone from local celebrity to international celebrity and as a listener of his radio show, the self compliments he gives himself are starting to seem less and less like a joke. I hope he doesn't disappear completely up his own arse, but Jonathan Ross knocked him down a peg or 2 (abliet jokingly) on his own show. It was hillarious.

But, yeah, Bookywook Movie???

He isn't even an actor, is he? He's a comedian who does comedy roles. He has shown zero range or on-screen charisma, he just plays himself.

This thread seems a bit pointless and premature right now, what has he done all of two films? But yes I go along with what most have said, hes very annoying and does just seem to play himself and from what I can tell isn't a very good comedian yet alone actor.

As usual Kargon, your input into threads is magnificent.

Russell Brand, for me personally, is one of the funniest men on TV today. His stand up's hilarious, his chat show appearances are legendary, and his book was entertaining enough.

I haven't yet seen him in FSM though, but I'm aware he plays himself. That would be enough to make me laugh to be honest, but he's always going to play that type of character, so won't have a chance to branch out into more dramatic roles.

Thats a pretty strong word to use, irritating is probably a better fit. See him on Jonathon Ross? So stuck up his own arse I'm suprised he hasn't died of suffocation

You can't be jealous of someone famous or successful, because that would mean we'd have to be jealous of more people than just Russell Brand.Christ, George Clooney is probably funnier than me as well as better looking, but I ain't jealous of him. Brand's popular for what he does, which is fine, so good luck to him. Doesn't mean I have to like him.

I have only seen him in St Trinians and he was just playing himself. It would be interesting to see him in a serious role to see if he could pull it off.
I used to find him very annoying but I have warmed to him, he is clever and very amusing. I can see why he would wind people up though. Also, I am a female and I don't understand why women find him attractive.

Russell Brand certainly divides opinion - and in light of the current media furore, some viewers may choose to stay away. But last year's first, Bafta-nominated series of Ponderland was Brand at his best, in a format that let him wander down surreal highways and byways with the aid of some well-researched archive clips. The first episode in the new series is a disappointment (next week's looks much better), though it has its - mainly gleefully filthy - moments. And Brand is always a compelling figure, with his rooster hair and arabesque delivery. His first topic is pets and he weaves florid little stories around aged footage featuring a woman who has a particularly close relationship with her dog, a lady who's in love with her parrot and, most bizarre of all, a man who bats away a terrifyingly playful lion with the wholly inadequate "Gerroff!"

He trained as an actor. Then moved onto presenting and then comedy and then combined the two. Acting was his first love though, apparently.

He was a trained actor, but then reliesed he wasn't good enough to make it, so he had a go at the Comedy thing, and after he became farmous, he said "I know I'll use that to get in films. And besides he supports West Ham and thinks Soccer AM is a cool show, two more reasons to dislike him

Please elaborate on what exactly makes Russell Brand "one of the funniest men on TV today."? In itself a fairly weak compliment. I think Bob Geldoff put it succinctly when he called him a "c**t". I loved the way Stewart Lee de-constructed Brand with a few sentences in his stand-up routine. Probably the only comedian to whom I pay attention as he's the only one to call out these guttersnipes for what they are.

Yep, so much so that when someone criticised him in his final year of studying drama. He smashed a piece of glass over his head and stabbed himself a few times. Probably the only sane thing he's ever done.
