Imagine the backlash if it had gotten 4 stars? 3 stars? Legions of people who haven't seen it yet would still have been foaming at the mouth defending it.

Speaking of backlash, give it a week and the noobs and trolls will be in droves just like the indy 4 thread saying " oh empire bought into the hype blah blah blah" isnt it just possible the movies is THAT good?

The last few 5 star rated movies by Empire have been spot on-so I'm very confident about the 5 star review for The Dark Knight. Think about it, in the last few months they have given 5 stars to-The Bourne Ultimatum, The Assassination Of Jesse James, No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood. I haven't seen Wall-E but based on the four previous I trust The Dark Knight review 100%!

Well for me No Country for Old Men and Bourne were 4 star films ( especially NCFOM as the ending was shit) but There Will Be Blood was a fantastic film well worthy of 5 stars and my favourite film of the year. Not seen Assassination of James and Wall:E but I look forward to both.

Can't say I'm surprised about the 5 star rating, since they gave the same to the somewhat undeserving Batman Begins.

I've heard that the fight sequences are still shoddily edited, but my hope is that Jonah Nolan's pen will do for The Dark Knight what it did for Memento and The Prestige.  With that in mind, the statement that there exists "a second act lull" provides some cause for concern.

Fingers crossed that it's every bit the movie it should be.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Two Face may be the best kept secret of the movie?

There have been one or two enticing glimpses of him in the trailer but the focus has been primarily on Joker -  understandably so. I'm beginning to wonder if Two Face plays a far more significant role than everyone is expecting. Not only would that take a lot of people by surprise but it'd be just plain awesome.

I've only read, and only intend to read, two reviews - neither mention much about Two Face. Maybe this is intentional. Having seen one of the leaked pics of him in the movie, he could be a fantastically terrifying bad guy.

The Dark Knight
An unoriginal, nonsensical and boring exercise in neo-blockbuster technical wankery. Heath Ledger's performance saves this from razzie territory, while Bale's threatens to bring it closer. Christopher Nolan just isn't that good a director (The Prestige being the exception). The look and feel of the film is offensive, and the sound and score are an assault on the ears. Bale, Caine, Freeman, Eckhart and Gyllenhaal can all do better than this, and this is definitely a sad way to end Ledger's career. Here's hoping that Gilliam does a good job on Parnassus so that Ledger can have left on a good light.

I have seen it. I'm not the kind who trashes a film solely to incite a reaction.

I am biased, true, but I'm not exaggerating or lying. That is my actual, biased opinion of the film.

so at 18 you can smoke, drink, vote, have sex with whatever you want but you can't stop your brother MAKING you go to a film that you're not interested in.

Hahahah, maybe the voting age should go up... way up!

Anyhoo, I must admit, I wasn't the least bit interested in The Dark Night but all this hyping makes me wanna see it now. Roll on (turning a lot of pages in my diary) 8 September!  (Yes, you can weep for me)

So just because you like an actor it doesn't matter what film he's in you'll go to see it for example Robert Downey Jr in Ironman. I like that Robert Downey Jr and I haven't seen Ironman so that seems like a weak reason to go see a film!
