Some, but there's a tonne of "chilled", rather beautiful metal out there. Try some Jex Thoth and see how you get on with that.

There's only a few Megadeth songs I like, Mustaine's whine does my head in.
Slayer were pretty good up to and including Undisputed Attitude but they have been bloody awful since and should've packed it in a long time ago.

Megadeth are superb. Everything they did between Peace Sells and Youthanasia was classic (particularly Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extinction) and after a few shit albums they've been back on form with Endgame and TH1RT3EN.

Seriously? I admit they're a hit and miss band album wise but God Hates Us All and Christ Illusion are great albums and also the best stuff they've done recently. The last album World Pained Blood was a bit lame but I suspect that had more to do with the overrated Rick Rubin that the band.

I don't agree, especially as Rubin produced Reighn In Blood!
Obviously thrash can only progress so far but all of their post UA records have bored me rigid.

About half the music I listen to is metal, but I tend to stick more to the melodic side of the genre. Symphonic metal is particularly awesome, along the lines of Nightwish, Within Temptation, Dimmu Borgir, etc. I do love some of the heavier stuff as well, though. The one sub-genre I'm not really fond of is death metal, although I appreciate its technicality and musicianship.

I've only seen them once and that was a couple of years ago, but it really felt like they were 'going through the motions'. Tom Araya fucked up the lyrics for Angel of Death too. I did get to hear War Ensemble and Disciple live though, which was lovely.

Rick Rubin is a joke these days. His albums sound terrible and by all accounts he's become an extremely lazy producer. Reign In Blood was a long time ago.

 Opeth is, for me, the greatest metal band of all time. I think they're the only band to truly express the angst and frustration that metal is said to represent, while at the same time branching out into other styles and emotions. It's as though they were angry at first, then they calmed down and experienced other things besides anger, as they moved from straight-out anger into a type of calm melancholy and darkness, as evidenced by their forays into jazz fusion (Still Life) and psychedelic rock (Damnation). The music takes you on journeys that feel familiar, but which lead you to places you've never been.  I love Opeth (particularly Blackwater Park) but their last album didn't excite me very much and I'm sorry to say they're boring as hell live.

 Personally I love Heritage. Although my favourite Opeth albums are definitely Ghost Reveries and Watershed; Ghost of Perdition, Harlequin Forest, The Lotus Eater and Hessian Peel I would single out as being uniquely brilliant songs.

Can't wait for the Mikael Akerfeldt/Steven Wilson uber collaboration Storm Corrosion.

Heritage was fairly weak in my opinion. I still enjoy it, though. The Opeth sound will never really go away. Ghost Of Perdition is fucking immense!

I'm personally not holding my breath for Storm Corrosion. I'm not a fan of Steven Wilson in any way and his involvement with Opeth was detrimental to the band's development rather than beneficial. Porcupine Tree bores the hell out of me.

The first time I listened to it I almost wept with joy when the opening riff to Blasteroid kicked in.
Also, the first two minutes or so of Thickening has roughly ten times more ideas than most bands fit into their entire careers.
