A bit too contraversial and completley senseless for my liking, right there.

Badlands - 4/5

Wall-E - 5/5 - So help me if I didn't fall in love with him!

The Apartment - 5/5 - The best film from all involved, and considering the talent, that's quite a feat

The Big Lebowski - 3/5 - Not my favourite, but it's been a long time since I saw it.

The Big Lebowski: A very funny film that stands up on multiple viewings. I never really liked the third act, for reasons I can't explain, but this is as good as they get.

8/10

Hmm, it appears that The Dark Knight has topped the IMDb list. Be aware that new films has a tendency of charting very high on initial release, before slowly finding a more correct placement. Still, pretty impressive. Can't remember the last time The Godfather wasn't #1. I'm seeing it on Sunday, and as the consensus seems to be overly positive, I can't wait.

Not only is it top, but its way out in front at the moment. The godfather is on an average rating of 9.1, The dark night is on 9.5! Wall-E is also in a respectable 22nd.

Yeah, it is scarily high. It probably won't remain that high, but it will be interesting to see where it ends up.

It probably is an overeaction though isn't it? I mean the film might be briliant and all, but yeah, Best Film Of All Time already? Madness.

But I guess, the people who are seeing it first weekend (Like, Wall-E) are gonna be people who are likely to like it. The people who might mark it a bit lower are going to see it a bit later I guess.

Well the problem is that there is bound to be some poeple who havent seen it but are rating it anyway as a 10/10 film. I guess it also shows how much some people rate the cinema experience. But surely it will drop a bit after a few weeks (unless it actually is that good). Thats also a really good point about the people who will be watching a film on its opening weekend.

Although i do like the idea of film critics coming out and saying that the best film ever made is a batman film.

Well even if its that good there will be a violent reaction against it, where people will start rating it badly just because they are fed up with it being top.

Yeah but look at the lord of the rings as an example of a modern film constantly being praised. Return of the king is still in the top 15.

I haven't voted at all yet, so I've just done the entire list. Some of my favourite films of all time here, which would explain the high numbers of 10 and 9 ratings. I think some of my low ratings could be seen as controversial so just to clear that up in advance, if something gets a low rating it's usually for a film I found slick but soulless or ones that waste interesting ideas. The three 1 out of 10 ratings are for films I actually hate with a passion.

So IMDB still haven't sorted it out. They said they'd hold some of these back after the controversy over Serenity - which still didn't get into the top 250 even though the score justified it months later. I'm not saying people haven't enjoyed it - but it makes a joke of their list.

It will drop, no doubt about it. Some films has entered the top 100 only to find themselves disappearing off the 250 completely. Still, it has 92% positive on Rotten Tomatoes, which is more than some of the films that were nominated for Oscars last year.

I'm sure it will but their point that time was to preempt it - that seems to have failed miserably.

I will agree with that, though it's kinda interesting to see the voting history. 80% are 10/10.

Because its completely a knee-jerk reaction - mostly from people who had already decided it was going to amazing before they had gone in. I mean, I'm looking forward to The Dark Knight, and I think it should be a good film, but I don't know untill I see it, but for months I've read things - here and elsewhere - like "I have no doubt it will be film of the year", that kind of person isn't gonna be swayed coming out of the cinema unless it was tragically dissapointing. I think a film has to be around a little while - not years and years, but I think there is an element that it has to have some kind of rewatchability and last a bit of time.

Alot of people would say Batman (1989) has aged badly in the wake of Begins and TDK, but at the time it was "Best film of the decade" kind of hype. TDK might be the best film of all time, but I think its a bit mad that its Number One already, and shows a flaw in the imdb list.

Very true. After all, FOTR was new at one point and we all know it automatically became the best film of all time
