Beetlejuice, I don't have anything in the top 100 films thread, but I'd like mine to be put in the pot to choose from - the one on the 5 movies to recommend, thread, if that's OK

Sorry for getting on the boat a bit late...

1) Do we only rate the current day's nominated films?
2) Or can we rate all those from previous days too?
3) Or, can we rate all of those in the top 100 (or more??) if we haven't already been involved with Dante's original thread?

I'll give my ratings for option 2 for now. If we're supposed to be doing option 1, please disregard my extraneous ratings. And if they ain't got a rating, I ain't ruddy seen 'em...

Fargo - 7
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - 9
Black Narcissus -
La Strada -
Floating Clouds -
La Chinoise -
Unbreakable - 8
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - 5.5
Late Spring -
Turner & Hooch - 6
Beauty and the Beast - 5.5
My Neighbour Totoro - 7

Oh, and one other question, is the person's own rating from their top 100 automatically included in the scoring?

The more the merrier mate!!!

Here's the answers to your questions...

1) No.
2) Yes
3) Yes, if you haven't already rated the films then you can give your ratings for the entire Top 100, like I said the more who join in with this the merrier.

As for your final question, no, I have not included the persons own rating from the Top 100 thread. I only include ratings that are made within this thread.

Yeah that's fine, I'll use the lists on that thread as well. So anyone else who hasn't got a list up on the Top 100 thread should join in with that one then (I'm looking at you Shawshank Prisoner!)

Don't remember enough about The French Connection or Trading Places to give a fare rating. Haven't seen the other two but am definitely intrigued by Possession.

Kill! 9.5/10 Batty and brilliant

Trading Places 8.5/10 Comedy still fresh from back when comedy films were actually funny without needing Farrelly or, now, Apatow repetitiveness

French Connection - 9/10

The French Connection: It is a good film, best described as a 'chase film', as the entire movie is one big search for the drug traders, climaxing in a spectular car chase. Not much more to it, though. A classic more because of its age and influence than its actual, lasting quality.

7/10

Maybe.
I've seen a bunch of good films this year, but haven't seen many great films.
For me, a great film would rate around 8 or 9/10.
9.5 would be outstanding and 10 would be practically "perfect", or at least it would be extemely good and I'd want to re-watch it frequently.

I can think of a number of 9s and a few 9.5s, but I honestly can't really think of a film that I'd rate as a 10. Even with the films I rate the highest, I wouldn't want to re-watch too often.

We all have our own ways, I guess....
If the ratings were done in percentages, how many films would you seriously rate at 100%?

Thats fair enough. I think i have always been a little lenient with ratings anyway. But your right about there not being many films which would get the 100%. I guess a great film i give 9/10 or 10/10 to, with a 8/10 being a good film i would happily put on again. I guess the true 100% films would only be Casablanca. You can obviously find even small flaws with just about any film.

Its dissapointing to still see some films with ratings in the 7/10 category still on the list. Although im sure that will change soon. I like the look of the top 10 now though.

The Big Lebowski is a hilarious comedy that just gets better with every viewing. The Coens are at their quirkiest here and the entire cast are firing gold (with Philip Seymour Hoffman my personal fav in the excellent supporting players).
9/10
