Rise of the Guardians (2012)
An epic adventure that tells the story of a group of heroes - each with extraordinary abilities.

Shrek 2 (2004)
Mike Myers' ogre and Eddie Murphy's fast-talking Donkey travel to the home of Cameron Diaz's Princess Fiona - where they're met by prejudice and conspiracy. Animated sequel from DreamWorks.

The Sound of Music (1965)
How do you solve a problem like the Nazis? By becoming the von Trapp Family Singers and hoodwinking the SS with your floral costume and patriotic songs, of course.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Imaginative and delicious adaptation of the Dahl classic. Features a wicked Gene Wilder as the eponymous Willy Wonka.

The Yearling (1946)
Based on the novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, The Yearling is set in post-Civil War Florida. Claude Jarman Jr. plays Jody Baxter, the lonely son of just-getting-by farmers Pa and Ma Baxter (Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman).

Shrek 2 - It all goes downhill after this - 4/5
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - Burton's film is so much better - 3/5.

Shrek 2 - 8/10
A nice return to the franchise that branches the story out well whilst giving plenty of things to do for our beloved characters. Agreed with Gimli that it went all wrong after this one. Jennifer Saunders is a fabulous villian.

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory - 8/10
Nah, this is the much better version of the Dahl story. Burton's film was just kind of odd. Wilder is perfect in the title role.

Twenty-four Eyes - 7/10
A resolutely sweet and lyrical melodrama that follows a teacher's bond with her students through a tumultuos period in Japan. The lead actress is outstanding and holds the film together gracefully. At its best when exploring the bond between the teacher and the young children in the early scenes of the film, with the scene where the kids go to visit the teacher particularly touching (somehow reminds me of Mei's mission in My Neighbor Totoro). However as the epic length goes on, the melodrama becomes a bit too heavy handed as we go from one teary scene to the next. The last ten minutes are deservedly emotional however and bring this lovely, little film to a bittersweet close. A nice film that could have done with a little editing here and there.

The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T (1953) - 7/10
What a bizarre kids film. A young pianist drifts off to sleep and finds himself in a strange brutal camp ran by his piano teacher. The design of the film is pretty spectacular and the dialogue is pretty nifty (it is based on and adapted by Dr. Seuss himself) but the film is just a bit too odd to be likeable and the musical numbers kind of jar with the film. The lead kid is cute enough if not a terribly good actor but Hans Conreid is fun to watch as the doctor.

American Pie (1999)
Sticky, messy and downright dirty, this is a teen comedy that actually reflects the lives of teenagers. Disgustingly funny.

Big (1988)
Think the unthinkable: a funny (and not too sentimental) Tom Hanks comedy. Oscar's favourite son makes excellent use of his puppyish charm as the boy who grows into a man overnight.

The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005)
Comedy starring Steve Carell as a middle-aged guy with a perfectly preserved cherry.

Moonstruck (1987)
Cher and Nicolas Cage star in this enchanting enemble comedy. Set in New York's Italian American community, it tells of love, ageing and baking.

The Philadelphia Story (1940)
Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart star in this classic comedy of romantic errors directed by George Cukor.

American Pie - 5/10
Meh, not really the type of film that stands up to a rewatch. Eugene Levy and Jennifer Coolidge steal the show with ease.

Big - 6/10
Hanks is fantastic but the film doesn't quite reach the comedic highs that the concept provides.

The 40 Year Old Virgin - 7/10
The perfect vehicle for Carrel's brand of humour. Hit and miss at times but Carrell and Catherine Keener provide some nice chemistry.

Moonstruck - 8/10
This is nice Woody Allen-lite romantic comedy which provides a nice vehicle for Cher. There's also some lovely support from Olympia Dukakis and John Mahoney but what the hell is Nicolas Cage doing?? Whatever it is, it's genius!

The Love Bug - 4/10
Oh dear this has dated badly, I remember liking this as a kid. It's all very naff but the biggest laugh comes from David Tomlinson sharing a car with a bear.

The Player (1992)
Tim Robbins is the ambitious studio exec who accidentally murders a writer in Robert Altman's star-studded Hollywood satire.

Porky's (1981)
The cheerfully messy exploits of a bunch of horny high schoolers in the godfather of teen gross-out movies.

To Be or Not to Be (1942)
Ernst Lubitsch directs this political satire classic which marked the final screen appearance of comedienne Carole Lombard.

Tootsie (1982)
Critically acclaimed cross-dressing comedy with a wonderfully exuberant performance from Dustin Hoffman.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)
Pioneering live action/cartoon fusion that was one of the biggest commercial and critical hits of the late 80s. Stars Bob Hoskins and hundreds of expertly animated cartoon characters.

The Player - 8/10
Excellent icy cold satrical look at the movie industry from Altman. Tim Robbins gives one of his best performances in the lead and he is ably supported by a host of interesting star cameos.

Tootsie - 8/10
Dustin Hoffman is spectacular in this likeable comedy about an out of work actor finding work in a soap as a female character. A great comedy script.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - 8/10
Robert Zemeckis' ingenious merging of live action and cartoon still remains the best of its kind thanks to its spot-on depiction of a detective film, which primarily it is. Brilliant characters and Bob Hoskins is excellent in the lead.

National Velvet - 6/10
Beautiful cinematography and some nice work from the horse and Mickey Rooney but it's such a slow paced movie and there's some rather odd subplots (the little boy hysterically talks about a past life where he watched his horse die? WTF?). Love Rooney's drunk performance though. Almost makes it all worthwhile. All horse movies are pretty much the same really aren't they.

The Player - 3/5. It was one of the first Altman films I saw and I've liked every other one I've seen more, so maybe it's time to watch it again.

Porky's - 2/5
To Be Or Not To Be - 4/5
Tootsie - 4/5
Who Framed Roger Rabbit - 5/5

The Philadelphia Story (1940) - 8/10
The stars are fantastic, particularly James Stewart whenever he's playing drunk and the film plays up well to their likeable movie star charms. A nice, funny and romantic movie and one of the best of its kind.

The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969) - 3/10
What a load of daft nonsense Disney turged out back in the day (well, still does I suppose). Kurt Russell just about makes it all watchable (and he was a right cutie when he was younger!) but the story is daft, script is a mess and the supporting cast are walking around like headless chickens.

Alice (1988)
Czech surrealist filmmaker Jan Svankmajer, who gained a reputation for his short subjects, makes his feature-film debut with Neco z Alenky, a grotesque look into the darkest, wildest recesses of a child's mind.

All of Me (1984)
Two minds are forced to share one body after a guru accidentally transfers the soul of a wealthy heiress into the body of her lawyer (Steve Martin).

Heaven Can Wait (1943)
The refined wit and impeccable style of Ernst Lubitsch makes for a typically sophisticated comedy from Hollywood's 'Golden Age'.

Here Comes Mr. Jordan (1941)
A delightful comedy-fantasy about a mix-up in heaven whereby a prize-fighter is mistakenly killed and his soul reassigned to the body of a millionaire about to be murdered, in an angelic attempt to cover up the error.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976)
Mannered adaptation of the intriguing novel by Walter Trevis showcasing the innately otherworldly David Bowie as the titular alien visitor.Psychedelia-inflected sci-fi about loneliness and consumerism.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) - 8/10
The perfect role for the otherworldly presence of '70s era David Bowie. He's fantastic as the softly spoken alien who becomes overpowered by human emotion and consumerism. Nicolas Roeg directs with a deftly psychedelic, experimental style and whilst the film does remain somewhat a product of its time it is still a completely fascinating and icy cool cult flick.

Rise of the Guardians (2012) - 8/10
A fantastic animated film. Great animation, characters and a thoroughly engaging story. Its not too cute, has plenty of action and a nice turn from Jude Law as the villian. Excellent character design. Its quite a daring and original piece of work from Dreamworks.

It's super cheesy but somewhat addictive. The songs are pretty spectacular and the leads are impressive. Certainly not my type of film but I can see why so many people either love or hate it. I'm happy to sit on the fence with this one.

Midnight in Paris (2011)
This is a romantic comedy set in Paris about a family that goes there because of business, and two young people who are engaged to be married in the fall have experiences there that change their lives.

The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945)
Writer/director Albert E. Lewin's fascinating follow-up to his expressive-esoterica masterpiece The Moon and Sixpence.

Portrait of Jennie (1948)
Joseph Cotten plays an artist, Eben Adams, who is unable to bring any true feeling to his work until he meets a young girl (Jennifer Jones).

The Tin Drum (1979)
Skilful adaptation of Nobel Prize winner Günter Grass' masterful novel. A scathing depiction of mid 20th century German history through the eyes of a drummer boy who refuses to grow up.

Yellow Submarine (1968)
An animated meandering journey filled with puns and dry British humor, where psychedelic music videos take precedent over any linear story.

American Pie 7/10 - Not interested in the series as a whole, but the first part kind of works, there are some nice comic turns and at least the gender poilitics are balanced.

Big 8/10 - The perfectly family coming of age film for the 80s. Tom Hanks is on top form.

The Philadelphia Story 9/10 - A ripe and entertaining comedy, with romance, high jycks and engaging performances from a finely selected cast.

The Player 8/10 - An edgy satire ahead of its time, Robbins gives a impressivly cold turn.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit 8/10 - Now this is a fun movie

Heaven Can Wait 8/10 - Intelligent black comedy.

The Man Who Fell to Earth 8/10 - Only seen it once years ago, but was impressed.

Midnight in Paris 7.5/10 - Possibly Allen's best in twenty years, finally his sense of romance has returned

The Picture of Dorian Gray 8/10 - Creepy, beautifully shot character study, and Saunders is at his best.

A bit of a sappy film and the kid was a bit annoying but when you've got Gregory Peck and Jane Wyman in the cast you can never go too far wrong.
