The Invisible Man - 8/10
Way past its sell-by-date but still gloriously camp fun with good special effects. That invisible man was a right nasty bugger as well.

More than just a shocking violent B-movie. This has a great set-up and only loses its way slighly in the final half hour. Lots of fun.

The Green Ray - 8/10
A poignant, sad little tale of a depressed young woman trying to find the best way to spend her summer. The acting is fine, but the main character can test your patience. Still a compelling little slice-of-life with a lovely ending.

A solid film that seems to have got lost amongst Coppola's bigger '70s movies. I'd happily say this is Gene Hackman's finest performance which definitely says something.

Cars 2 - 5/10
Why did Pixar make a sequel to their weakest film? Something went incredibly wrong here.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - 9/10
Stands out from the rest of the films in a good way thanks to Cuaron's take on the franchise. Thewlis, Oldman and Thompson are all excellent additions to the cast. It has pacing issues as with all the films but it's still ace.

Cars 2 - 4.5/10
One of Pixar's hardest to love films gets a bad, bad sequel.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - 8.5/10
Cuarón's redesign of Hogwarts etc is wonderful - the whole film looks fantastic. There are some strong performances too - it's a great film.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007) - 7/10
My least favourite of all the Harry Potter films.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) - 9/10
The cinematography is gorgeous, the main three give far better performances than previous films, and there's a Nick Cave song on the soundtrack - by far the best Harry Potter film (though only my second favourite)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 - 9/10

Phoenix has some lulls and was my least favourite of the books. However the casting of Imelda Staunton was inspired and the final half hour of the film goes down to some of the best stuff of the entire series. Dumbledore sitting by Harry as he internally fights against Voldemort possessing him has me in tears every time! Bonham Carter gets some excellent moments in here as well.

Deathly Hallows: Part 1, I really like the moments of just the three leads together. It's the most character based of all the movies and the three actors have came on leaps and bounds so its all worthwhile spending time with them. The only downside is the throwaway moments of a couple of deaths of important characters.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
More of the same in this first sequel, as Harry and friends investigate weird goings on at Hogwarts. The JK Rowling money-making behemoth lumbers onward.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
The boy wizard's epic story finally draws to a close with an action packed finale starring all the usual suspects.

Watched this again recently and it is actually a lot better than I remember it, the plot is pretty complex and Kenneth Branagh was great.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 - 10/10
A wonderful end to the series. Absolutely thrilling from beginning to end.

#17 on Gimli The Dwarf's list...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
Once again, Dumbledore must ask too much of Harry. It's business as usual at Hogwarts, with a new term heralding new danger at possibly the least safe school in the country.

#18 on Gimli The Dwarf's list...

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Thorough adaptation of the first instalment of JK Rowling's enormously popular fantasy saga. With some spot-on performances and excellent visuals it will keep children rapt and adults entertained.

#19 on Gimli The Dwarf's list...

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
The evil Lord Voldemort finally steps forward to threaten young Harry Potter in the fourth instalment of JK Rowling's saga. Mike Newell directs half of Britain's actors and several gigabytes of CGI.

#2 on swordsandsandals' list...

Bright Star (2009)
The youthful, tragic love between Romantic poet John Keats and his sometime neighbour Fanny Brawne, sensuously staged by director Jane Campion.

Have you voted for?...
 #135 - The Grapes of Wrath - 8.7
 #199 - Tremors - 8.5

The first film actually still has a lovely magical atmosphere that makes up for a lot of lulls in the story. Goblet has the Triwizard tournament but apart from that silly subplot the rest of the film is fantastic. Half-Blood Prince is at its best in that final half hour and Jim Broadbent gives one of the best performances of the entire series.

#19 on swordsandsandals' list...

The Illusionist (2010)
The hotly anticipated follow-up to Sylvain Chomet's Oscar-nominated animation Belleville Rendez-Vous is a bittersweet tribute to Gallic cinema idol Jacques Tati.

#19 on impqueen's list...

I Know Where I'm Going! (1945)
Few British films have equalled the romantic intensity of this work which Powell and Pressburger made in a mood of optimism as the war ended.
