AAARGHHH!!!! What is it with american endings? What made it a tad different was the fact that the plucky heroine was driven insane at the end and died. What's next....Butch and Sundance kill all the Bolivian police and escape? Rick turns Victor Lazlo in and gets the girl? Ok..The Descent wasn't in the same league but you get the point

With Marshall not in the director's chair I can't say I'm too enthused by this....

The first one was overated shite. I'm glad the stupid UK ending was changed. It was daft to show someone escape and then reveal it was a dream. Garbage. I will avoid this UK horror shite.

Given the first was 'Gollum and chums go caving' and was a festering pile of dingo's kideneys.

Just because they don't like movies that don't have a happy ending they ruin the rest of the worlds viewing pleasure. When was there an American movie that ended badly (apart from Requiem for a dream) ? and i dont just mean a bad movie.

'What made it a tad different was the fact that the plucky heroine was driven insane at the end and died.'

No she didn't. She passed out, daydreamed that he had escaped, woke up as she heard the screams of the cave creatures and carried on crawling through the cave as the camera pans back. The inference being that she's all alone, no chance of escape and will inevitably die down there but leaving it ambiguous enough that there is a very small chance of her escaping.....

it looked to me like she'd suffered a bit of a head injury, and was just slumped there like in that massive cave not attempting to do anything. i thought it was pretty conclusive that there was pretty much no coming back from it. especially since we'd already had the dream sequence, kidding us that she'd escaped. to have her actually escape would ruin the whole ending.

and on the subject of the sequel - i can't believe they're making a sequel to the american release! which will inevitably get released over here...so what, are they going to film a new beginning to the sequel for us, or are we just going to be left feeling confused? i know they changed the beginning in the american release but a lot of people wont.

Er, Se7en ended pretty badly. Pitt's pregnant missus had her head lopped off, he shoots John Doe through the head and probably ends up in a loony bin. Not exactly a 'Hollywood' ending is it ?

so it sequel to the american edit, it like that scene from friends where of them didnt see the end of old yeller becuase there parent thought it would be too traumatic, in a way i hope it falls flat on its face, it would be like some american producer taking get carter cutting the end of it off so rather it ends with carter strolling down the beach cut to 40 years later and he sitting in a chair saying about how much jaws the revenge sucks,

Its a british film but they are going to carry on where the americanversion left off? Talk about betraying your own country. I quite agree with you bigmurds.

The protagonist didn't die on screen even in the British version of the film, so they have license to get her out. The quality of the writing will determine how probable it all seems. Perhaps the escape was the real ending, and the change back to the cave was just a dream. You can be as revisionist as you like with fiction. I suppose the ideal way to sort out the ending canon would be to re-run the American ending, do the cut to the British ending and sort it out from there - either with her fighting her way out for real or suffering constant flashback nightmares.

Seriously, what?
I can see how it's doable, I can see how that would work, even wth the British (original) nding; but as Chris rock says, You can steer a car with your feet if want to!. . . . that doesn't mean it's a good F***ing idea!"

just goes to show no matter what you right, no matter what you film, no matter what you edit, the Americans will find a way to screw it up and make a sequel/franchise from it.
why can't they just leave British cinema alone and concentrate on their own lame tat. i'm getting sick of american sequels to british films and american remakes of british classics. (i will never forgive them for the italian job and get carter)
the sooner the present hollywood machine crashes and burns the sooner true filmmakers with originality and talent can show the world something new.

Didn't you wonder why Americans insisted on a version where someone survived in the first place? God, i hate those Yanks in Hollywood sometimes. The English cut was far superior, and neater, tying up ends to avoid such a thing as a sequal, but we couldn't leave it alone...

I really don't understand how this is going to appeal to the (intelligent) audience who got the definitive ending... I'm actually annoyed that they changed the ending for the dumb ass american audience...where's the film makers integrity??? and another thing... WHY WOULD SARAH GO BACK!!!!!????!!!!! fuck me.. did she leave her handbag or something?? don't think so....

I still don't see how they could do a sequel but I always took the ending to be that although she did get out the final scene was basically what was going on in her head... and years of therapy ensued.

I didn't feel connected to the characters in the first film so why would I care to see their backstory after they've died? They should have started with a new group if they were doing it again.

Everything always has to go in their favour even tho this was a British made film to begin with!! Can you imagine Dog Soldiers being Americanised? I dare not think! LEAVE THE DESCENT ALONE!!! THE UK VERSION IS THE BEST!!! I havent seen the US version and frankly I dont want to.

because its a prequel right? I loved dogs soldiers, the descent had its moments, but it was utterly overrated and it looked like a car commercial. and it was too repeitive.
