My interest has peaked after the trailer. It's a reboot, not a remake. I don't know why some people can't understand that. Yes, it's not the film some people want but they need to get over that. I'd love nothing more than an ultra-violent Robo-remake but this isn't the 80s anymore and unfortunately that film just wouldn't make any money. Look at Dredd, good film, 18 rating = monetary disaster.

It's going to be a 12A so we're not going to see a Clarence Boddiker type spitting blood at the police desk and asking for his 'fucking phone call', or seeing an OCP exec snorting cocaine off a hooker's tits. This is a different take on a classic story and I'm actually looking forward to it now. Even if it's shit it will not diminish the original one jot.

Big fan of Kinnaman after his work on the Killing. Oldman, Jackson and Keaton we all know will deliver the goods, and Abbie Cornish is supreme eye candy. Bring it on.

DEAD OR ALIVE, YOU ARE COMING WITH ME.

Looks better than I thought it would do, but then it looks too clean. A mish mash of DREDD and Total Recall (but swinging toward the latter). Also, while its clearly still a cyborg, it comes across as a man simply in an armoured suit, not a cyborg who struggles with an identity crisis and returning memories.

Also id take Murphy getting shot to pieces over a quick over and done with blink and youll miss it car bomb. Doubt it will have anything over the original.

EDIT: though i just rewatched the trailer and Keaton does say "we are going to put a man inside a machine" so maybe I missed the point a bit...

The trailer was a complete turd, the titular hero looks like a Power Ranger Dildo. Did I expect anything less?

I personally think the trailer looks awful, in the mean time check out this awesome homage I found to the classic RoboCop Movies.

It's great.

It's funny but it's tragic. From sleek, industrial r-rated cool, to toothless black rubber bullshit.

If were lucky, the remake may actually turn out to be better than Robocop 3 ( Not hard i know ) but i doubt it will be even as good as Robocop 2 which is in my opinion severely underrated.

Part me wishes that this turns out well because of how much I love the Elite Squad movies and getting the guy who did those to direct Robocop is an act of genius, but even those were hardcore 18/R.

I really, really hope it's better than the second, it will almost certainly top the atrocious mess that is the third, but like you say, it's not hard.

Looks like Paul Verhoeven classics are all getting the reboot treatment. What's next? A PG13 Basic Instinct with gratuitous cuddling?

So does ayone have any hope for this? I thought the article on it in this months issue was interesting especially the idea of Robocop being plugged into a system at night and injected with antidepressants to help him cope with what he has become etc. Looking forward to giving it a go...the film that is!

I'm cautiously optimistic about it, only because they appear to be doing their own thing with the basic concept rather than just outright copying the original. Of course, there's the argument that they should just call it something else in that case, but people would probably just say how it ripped off Robocop.

Still going to wait for the review before handing over my money.

Yeah good point. I've actually liked what I've heard so far, barring one or two things perhaps. It couldnt possibly compete with the original as a straight remake, in my eyes at least, so if it stands on its own two feet and takes a somewhat different angle confidently then I'm all for it.

I will still give the remake a shot. Even though it will be a lot less violent than the original due to the PG-13 rating.

However, the up to date special effects of today are highly advanced in contrast to when the original came out in 1987. So it would be really interesting to see how they will make a few differences in perhaps some of the weapons and machines, like ED-209, etc.

I assume they made it less violent though for the money, as higher rated films (18 certificate films) will restrict younger viewers to see it and will make less money. Perhaps gore and violence is not always essential to making a decent Action flick but we have to wait and see.

Am I the only one on this forum who is looking forward to this movie without any prejudice at all?

Usually people would wait and see a film BEFORE they dump all over it.

On another note, it's not 1987 anymore, and I for one am sold on the trailers.

See thats what I like when its done right.

Original Robocop was arguably a little too gory (?) though it came with the territory and I wouldnt have changed it. Without wanting to sound like a sadistic creep I enjoy on screen violence. Films like the original, Universal Solider Regeneration, District 9 (odd selection, but first to my mind) have so much appeal to me. In those films and others alike there are clear stakes at hand. Whereas now, we are reduced to muted violence with our hero killing CGI nothings with no real impact. Total Recall is a good example of that and this looks no different.

Will be good to see how Wolverine changes if I rewatch the unleashed version, though im sure it will fare better in my own estimations.
