With most of this current rash of 80's franchise remakes, refreshes and reimaginings, you can pretty well guarantee that they will each make money as there is a captive audience which will definitely go and see it. Look at what happened with Indy 4: 'mixed' reviews but most fans of the original films went along anyway, 'just in case it was good'. With the new Rambo and Rocky films, I think it was clear that these were one-offs to (a) satisfy the fans that had wanted new episodes for years and (b) to make money. The intentions of the people making the films were quite open and honest, and viewers took them at face value. Hunger sated, nobody is calling for further sequels (correct me if I'm wrong!). With Indy 4, again the fanbase had been calling for another film. What they got was an attempt to refresh the franchise and pass the hat on to a younger star. In doing so, in my opinion, the filmmakers not only failed to refresh the franchise but they failed to satisfy their core audience. Still, they covered their costs... Again correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't heard anybody saying "I can't wait for them to make another Beverley Hills Cop film". As a concept in the 21st century it simply doesn't stand up in this post-Bourne and post-updated Bond world. To make money, it needs to appeal to fans of the originals. And for that it needs to go back to the spirit and language of the originals. And I'll be surprised if Eddie Murphy's agent allows him to make that sort of film now. Eddie Murphy's fanbase is the kids. Beverley Hills Cop's fanbase are all growed up now. Something has to give. Apologies for the long post. Note to self: more self-editing needed.

I wish none of this had happened. So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.
