ORIGINAL: BagEnder Not a fan i'm afraid - hard to put my finger on exactly why, although i did hate the ending (not because it was bleak, but because it was comletely and utterly nonsensical). Elaboration please? I get that the ending was divisive for audiences, but what exactly was "utterly nonsensical" about it? The ending makes perfect sense to me. As far as they're aware there's nothing left of the world, nowhere to go to. And even if there was, they would be worried that society had broken down like it had in the store, only on a much larger scale. They've also been driving for hours and are now lost in the middle of nowhere, unable to see clearly in any direction, surrounded by beasts, and out of food and water. Whether it's being eaten, impregnated, decapitated or just plain starvation, they know they will die if they venture out on foot (as everyone else has done), and they know they will die if they stay in the car. I'll admit that they carry out the task very suddenly without really discussing it, but knowing that their death is imminent the logical thing to do would be to make it as quick and painless as possible.
