I was just thinking about how I need to re-watch very soon (I usually watch it as part of a double-bill avec the equally awesome 30 DAYS OF NIGHT). Great Film. Easily one of the best horror films of the last decade.

That's a hugely diverse (but awesome) double bill.

The ending is quite contrived, but its such a down note. There aren't to many films that would be bold enough to end so grimly.
I think it a great movie, love how fear of what is on the outside of the shop is taken over by the fear of what's happening inside

Some of the effects were ropey but I think this fit with the style of the film and the main focus of the film for me was how these very 'ordinary' people soon turned against each other when the mist came in. Really shows how, for all our thinking and reasoning skills, when we are truly afraid many return to our baser survival mode. (every man for himself) I for one loved the ending, definitely very bleak, but reinforces how the fear stopped them from thinking clearly. The mist made them feel that this was the end of the whole world, when in fact it was over such a small area. I hope some of that makes sense? lol

It's a film well-overdue for another viewing, I think...!

I've got both the colour and black and white versions, although I've never given the latter a spin. Think I might have to!

There's a black and white version? Was that Darabont's original intention?

Whoa, whoa, whoa...you mean you've intentionally only watched the colour version?

That's like watching the happy ending version of Brazil.

No, nothing like that. I had the single disc (the colour version) for ages, but only just fairly recently bought the 2-disc with the B&W version included. Simply not watched it yet, is all. But I have a feeling this will be remedied later....

That's all right then.

I simply can't stress enough how much better it is in black and white.

That much better than the colour version? Must find a special edition with it.

Certainly the black and white added a bit more atmosphere to it, making it feel more like a B-movie.

do you think it is worth buying the film again to get the black and white version?

I dunno. It's nice to have the option of seeing it either ways, though.

I didn't even realise it was supposed to be in black and white untill I read it in this thread. I might have a look, see how much I can get it for

Do TVs not have the ability to turn the colour off anymore?

Turning down the colour of your TV isn't the same as a director shooting in black and white, though.

Now who's the smart arse?

Darabont didn't shoot in B&W though, it was converted in post which is still a lot different than just turning the colour down.

Look, smart arses, it's great whatever way you watch it.

Just finsihed watching it again there now. Great film, I'd actually forgotten the entire bit in the chemists so that scared me all over again.

Yeah, my 2-disc Blu-Ray copy was a fiver.

I only watch the b&w version now, it's just miles more atmospheric and kinder on the CGI as well.

The CGI was the only problem I had with it, so I look forward to watching the B&W version.

I finally got round to watching the B&W version, and it certainly is far kinder on the CGI. Apart from that, though, it didn't make a huge difference for me. I guess it lends a slightly different atmosphere, but both versions are good.
