 This film,even for movie buffs/fans seems to be overlooked.
I seen this when it was out and was blown away.It has so many levels-the B movie approach,the religion sub-text and THAT ending.
It is simply a quality 5 star movie.
It's so good,even though i bought it,i watch it when it's on Sky Movies!
There's just quality that goes beyond any genre label.
And we always seem to leave it out of our top tens!

It is one of my amazing movie which I had ever seen and surely it is been a more interesting when to watch on a big screen.I liked the heart throbbing music

Yeah, this is a really great film, missed it at the cinema; wrote it off as one of them crappy low budget cgi-ridden horrors. Watched it on DVD and I'm saying to myself; "Huh, this is actually quite good...". And it just kept on getting better and better. And then of course came that ending, and I swear, after I saw it, my jaw dropped and remaind stuck that way for like an hour! I remember at some point, finally turning to my girlfriend and asking; "Did they really just do that?". And she was, like; "Yup, they really did!" and I was, like; "No WAY!" and she's all like; "Way!".

Okay, so maybe it didn't play out like that, but I'm just trying to illustrate how blown away I was. I'm kind of a bitch when it comes to making my own mind up about movies - not all the time - but sometimes, and sometimes I like to read about what other people have said about them first and then simply make the decision to either agree or dissagree. But with 'The Mist', the second the credits rolled, my mind was already made up - it was AWESOME! ...And still is.

 Got to say, love this film. Read the book years ago and thought like I normally do "that'll make a great film". Imagine my delight when it finally got made. Just gripping in every way from the monsters on the outside to the terrifying events inside especially Mrs Carmody although I always imagined her as much older. Funnily enough, Olly (Toby Jones) was exactly as I imagined he'd look and what a gut-wrenching ending, (spoiler alert!) much bleaker than the book which kind of leaves things open.

Seriously though,will be interesting to see where it ranks when Empire does another of those special editions of film rankings.

 This for me, suffered from all the hype. I found it ok, but it started to lose me towards the end. The end was wonderfully bleak though.

I'll give it a re watch at some point, but I was let down.

I haven't read the book but apparently the ending is different to that of the film; King himself has said he prefers the ending that Darabont presented in the film. I remember I was shocked when I first saw it at the cinema. Powerful stuff.

Whilst I wouldn't say its a favourite, its a bloody good film and I don't think I've ever been on the edge of my seat as much as when I watched it. Loved the ending and I've never wanted anyone to die (in a film!) as much as the religous zealot lady, for the record - I would have killed her way before they did!

It's one of the best horrors I've seen in recent years for sure.

Darabont’s black and white version of the film is wonderful. Chanced this on Blu Ray as I heard great things and wanted to see it in his preferred version. Have never watched the theatrical cut but I love the black and white version. Hard hitting ending for sure. Uncompromising!

 It's the strength of this film,although it isn't an effects-driven film,that the effects,when they do appear,are absolutely quality!It is one of those rare films where the previously unseen monsters live up to the images you had in your own head beforehand.
A classic.

 Watched the directors cut again last night. It really is a different league to most other horror films released these days. It’s interesting listening to Darabont’s introduction to the black and white version. He says that a studio’s worst nightmare is to have a horror film on their hands that will actually horrify people. There really aren’t that many that truly have a lasting unsettling effect on the viewer today. The Mist is certainly one that does! And it has nothing to do with the creatures outside.

Love that nod to The Dark Tower at the start too!

The film is just brilliant!

Quite right Rgirv - it needs to be 're-discovered' as it were, it really was overlooked upon it's initial release which is a damn shame as it is an 'intelligent' horror film with fantastic FX and believable performances. Infinitely superior to those lame-ass SAW sequels.

 I thoroughly enjoyed this film. The cast were on top form, the monsters were good and the tension was unnervingly eery.
I was with the characters every step of the way and I'm so pleased it ended how it did - against the norm.

I've not read the story by Stephen King, but going from a few of his novella-to-screen works, the film's endings are usually 10x better than his story endings. I tend to feel King struggles with endings. He's fab at beginning and middle bits of novellas.

 i'm so glad many others out there like this movie too. The ending really had an impact as I'd read the novella and wasn't expecting it. Is it the most horrible ending of the two though? Killed your son for no reason as the army save the day? Or hopelessly driving forward into a dangerous and uncertain world?

I watched this in black and white immediately after watching it in colour and loved it. The lack of colour even made the pisspoor CG tentacle that grabbed Norm in the backroom look far more realistic!

Loved the novella, loved the film...right up until that awful ending. I know people say it's what makes the film but I hate it. It's nasty and just feels tacked on to shock and unsettle.

Have had the BD for ages but have never watched the colour version. It just feels so right in black and white!
