...but I'll say it again, 'HELL IN A HAND BASKET!' (thanks Grandpa Simpson). For the love of Jeebus why?! Donny Darko needs a sequel like a fish needs a bicycle! There, I've said it!

Please don't taint the legacy of Donnie Darko. Will it feature an awesome 90s soundtrack now Samantha is 18?

Donnie Darko Original? Hmm. Genius tho, I'm already waiting to pre-empt the script like last time. Yeah ok it was funny I knew exactly were the in-jokes and references were (oh c'mon the 'Grahame Greene' bit? Shouted it out b4 Swayze first time I saw it), but a film based on somat the brat in 'Sparkle Motion' did? C'mon surely the fans of this film are grown now and won't appreciate it in the same way especially if it is focusing on a young female protagonist .

WHAT IN THE NAME OF FRANK IS GOING ON??? - 9/5/2008 4:00:04 PM

OK...Donnie Darko is my favourite film of all time. I thought it was absolutely brilliant and I know I'm obsessed with it but it's an incredible film so I'll obsess away. EMPIRE has said it in its reviews so well (this is a very summarized version): The movie has a great open endness to it (therefore no needfore sequel)...its great(let is standalone: no need for sequel whatsoever) it....Jake Gyllenhaal can act. So should I be rejoicing??? Absolutely NOT!!! THe movie was perfect. The plot came to an end (interpretation still going) SPOILER ALERT (avert you eyes if neccessary:0the tite character dies. That should be enough to seal the deal of this movie: the premise is gone. I only remember looking at other characters at the end of the film more closely but Samanthat was never really someone that stood out and even if she did like gretchen, cherita or rose it would still be a bad idea. I understand that this is about Samantha but really? Richard Kelly is not even directing it (though SOuthland Tales was something of a miss his work on Darko is nothing short of brilliant, excluding the inferior Director's cut). I doubt that this movie wil have any of the originality or feel of the original. It's really a shame that producers would think it clever to create a sequel of a movie that alone shines brighter than most blockbusters can even imagine (not to say blockbusters are bad but this indie pic captures my attention more than any big film company movies do). My first reaction was indignation: really general repulsiveness. Now it's more like lamentation and dissappointment: lots of worry that something so great can potetially be forgotten due to an inferior sequel. I will try to keep an open mind and I will definately see the movie (more to see if they ruined it or not rather than out of general interest...maybe it'll be better than I think but dark clouds are ahead). But why can't hollywood let good things be? THere's no need to stretch the material of things tha

i mean they must think we're idiots, cruel intentions 2 and startship poopers 2, none of the returning cast, nothing to do with the creator, cant see where they're going to go, another classic film ruined by a sequel that it shouldnt even be considering, as i recall donnie darko never made the bank on it's original theatrical release did it?

how about a sequel to the original Italian Job then? 18 years and 316 ideas later, the gang still nestled on the edge of the cliff, the bus slightly more rusty and weathered, still balanced between life and death, financial riches and ruin......but they have just one more idea that might swing it in their favour.......Italian Job 2: A Heist Too Far

sorry if i spoilt the Italian Job for anyone by giving a hint to the ending.

You know whats weird. I loved this film and remember seeing it on release in 2002, now when I read the story and it said the same actress would be reprising her role as Samantha as an 18 year old I was thinking what?? She can't be that old, shes just a wee nipper. Then I looked on IMDB and she has definatly grown up and I realised there was only 4 years difference between us, just strange you just forget actors grow up. Anyway and this is weird to say but she is really hot now. I remember seeing the film at 15 though, just makes me realise how time flies.

Darko is my 3rd favourite film, and I can't see any possible reason for a sequel...I'm especially disheartened to hear that Kelly isn't director, regardless of how crap Southland was...
I just hope Donnie Darko will remain fairly separate from this sequel...

All i could think of when reading this was Carrie 2. I wouldn't be surprised if this goes straight to DVD. I won't go see it any way.

I'm tempted to spit vitriol at Hollywood again for bringing out more sequels and remakes in the name of money rather than good film making, but you know what?
I give up now, the aint gonna listen so I'm just gonna pretend this isnt happeneing...and that it flops

Last night I was watching Donnie Darko and now that I have just woken up I hear about a sequel. Not that interested, but Im happy they have the original Samantha reprising her role.
