People familiar with YouTube sensation The Lonely Island and their hit music videos, including Dick in a Box and Jizz in my Pants, will have been looking forward to this movie since it was first announced. However these kinds of movies are very hard to get right, and the odds were that this movie would fail to deliver. But it doesn't. The story revolves around a cheesy stuntman named Rod (Andy Samberg), trying to win the respect of his stepdad by beating him in a fight. But when his stepdad is diagnosed with a terminal illness and his goals are endangered, Rod, along with his equally corny stunt team (Jorma Taccone, Danny McBride, Bill Hader) attempts to raise the money to save him. Not saying this movie is flawless. Some of the jokes are dead efforts and Isla Fisher, as Rod's love interest, has stiffened up too much since Wedding Crashers. Still there is plenty to enjoy here, from the funniest group of buddies since Ron Burgundy's news team to and endless stream of side-splitting gags. Some of the finest moments include a punch-dancing, cliff-falling scene in the woods, a dry-humping Asian guy, and Rod's shitty stunt attempts. Hot Rod is by no means the best comedy of the decade, but it is still an excellent Hollywood debut for the Lonely Island crew; a debut that can only be decribed by two words...Cool Beans.
